While the layout doesn't look bad, it's quite boring. I think just changing the colours could make it just that bit more interesting to look at. The fonts you use are easy to read and you use proper grammar.
The About link, listed in both the top navigation and the footer, is broken. I would like to read more than what you have in the footer, but linking to a non-existent page is useless. Either add the page, or remove the link for now.
You might also want to know the permalinks of your posts are broken as well.
The chicken in the footer has no purpose. I understand you wanted something random like it is, but at least try to find a better-quality image to use, the one you're currently using is a really poor cut-out, there's pixels in several spots that should have been removed and the colours of the chicken are dull. While yours is not a graphics site, graphics used on any website should be of at least okay quality, I think.
I'm also not sure you want to advertise you've been nominated for a Worst Blog award, and that badge also seems to be the main reason your coding doesn't validate.
