Hi there Rainie. I am Salma, and I will be reviewing your site. You will be actually my fist full and in depth review, so it would be great to know of what you think of my very adequate reviewing skills in your response. Thank you.
So here we go!
First impressions were great! Your main header is very simple with a complimenting colour scheme. I really love the combination of the blue and the black, something I wouldn't think off.
The layout of your site is neat and concise. I really loved how you added different sidebars to organize the content- very clever indeed. But, I really don't understand why did you need to list your content once again. I am sure there is a separate page for that. Maybe include some details about the current layout, like which programs you used, font, maybe brushes etc. This will benefit the visitor greatly, especially if they really liked your layout.
Your blogs are lengthy but interesting and entertaining to read. I really like the unique-ness of your writing style, and defo one of the many aspects that will make me visit your site regularly. Well done!
The about me section of your site is very detailed and gave me a really good insight about you. But, I would like a section with small facts about you. It will actually be great for those people who can't be bothered to read a page of writing. Maybe if possible include pictures to add some visual effects. Doesn't necessarily have to be a picture of you, it can be of Hong Kong city skyline (a great way to display some of your photography) or anything you love (e.g. swimming). Also, it would be great if you include methods of how and where to contact you. I would be for sure glad to know them. Unless of course you have put it under the site section of your website, but I will find out soon.
Moving on to your content, you are one of the few sites who offer content that prefers quality over quantity, so thank you very much for that. I would like to note however, that this texture rather looks similar to saruna.net textures http://memorylast.net/goodies/texture/waves.png maybe it's coincidental, I have no idea. But, I would be glad if you were slightly a bit more original with your resources, since as a visitor, I would hate to see the same kind of resources everywhere. One resource that is unique and different in my opinion, will keep me coming back for more.
The tutorial section is arranged in an organized fashion. It was great to see the variety of tutorials you offered and did not just offer Graphic tutorials, but offered site, PHP and many more other articles.
Since, I am a Photoshop user; I was immediately drawn to your Photoshop tutorials. The tutorial that caught my eye was the "Wedding Picture Effect" tutorial. It would help to see a before and after image at the top of the tutorial, since some people like me are lazy and hate to scroll all the way to the bottom to check the result of the effect. And throughout reading the tutorial, I am speculating why the hell it's called a "Wedding Picture Effect"? It must be an obvious reason that I failed to understand. I will leave that for you to explain. On a lighter note, the effect was fabulous but a little too on the bright side. I checked out some of your other tutorials, and I didn't spot a problem with them. So that’s all good.
The MySpace section is small compared to your other content, but I am sure it's going to grow in time. I would like to ask a question, what an Album Cover is? Maybe explain to those less MySpace intellect people like me somewhere in the page, so we can be on the same wavelength. I checked the default tutorial page and it was awesome to see there was preview for the layout. Other sites I had a look at offer the code but a really tiny screenshot of the layout without a preview. So you're defo on the right track. One problem I spotted, the link to the skinny layout isn't working, hope you can fix that, because it would be such a blow to the visitors, http://memorylast.net/myspace/skinnylays.php
First look at the domain section, it was very organized with clearly labelled section except for the "about us" one, wait a second, last time I checked I thought there was only one owner? Is there someone else working on the site too, you should be telling us about? Hmmm. I suggest a different label, how about "About Memory last" or "about the site", I am sure these seem appropriate. That should got also for the other labels such as "Contact Us" and replaced by "Contact Me" and "Link Us" to "Link Me".
The first page I clicked in the Site section was the "about us", and I saw that the first bit of the "about us" sounded similar to your welcome message. Maybe try and list the fact of when the site was created etc?
Back to the Domain index page and I was shocked to see you had a chat box! That's something very Piczo/Freewebs, and site with such high standards like yours doesn't not match it at all. Plus, I don't understand what the point of it is? I have heard of other inventions such as MSN, YIM, Skype and AIM. They work similar to the chat box. If you want to interact with your visitors in a different way/method, I suggest holding a pre-planned live chat using one of those programs I have recommended. Or, it's the commonly used comment box in your blogs.
That's all. My overall rating of your site is 3 stars. The reason why it's not yet a 4 star, it’s because your site is lacking on the content or anything along those lines. I just think that some issues that I have brought up needs to be fixed first and afterwards, your site will improve to be in the border line of a 4 star and a 5 star site.
