First Impressions: The layout in my books is perfect, being simple, colourful and creative. I love designs like this because they are both personal and professional looking. Nice!
Everything is organised very well, considering the main navigation at the top, and then the site links at the bottom. There is so much content here to spend hours browsing.
Your 'About Skyefairy' page is informative and well written, as is your own profile. It's so nice to be able to browse others' creative works all on one site.
Final Comments: I know this is a very short review, but I honestly think nothing should be changed here. Just my opinion. Fabulous site in my book, so keep it up.

I love the colors! they go together so well and the simplicity of the layout is really nice. Your blogs are readable and entertaining and the index is very easy to navigate around. Im really jealous of your footer because its really set out beautifully and it looks really professional :)
When i clicked on Creative Arts i found a whole array of work that you've done. Every section is nicely put out and everything is very neat and pretty. Great work.
Under Web Design theres a great collection of work. When i clicked on Wallpaper however i was a bit confused as to if you made the wallpapers or if people just contributed. But still wonderful work there. Then i visited the Submit page and realized that this was a collaborative kind of thing. Awesome idea!
Overall this site is beautifully laid out and really amazing. Great work, keep it up :)Using MSIE on Windows | Report This?

on 18th Nov 2008 and said:I had a decent feeling when I entered your website =) sort of like a welcoming feeling, haha I guess it was the little girl on your layout XD. hmm but yes, you used good colors here in this layout I really like your footer and how it covers the entire bottom page of the website with a dark pink line to divide the dark footer from the light tan background of your website. I do believe the layout part might look better if there were a quote or some text in small font or design on the banner since it looks a bit empty, but yea, I like how your site title is bolded and in color as well as being a link back to homepage.
Perhaps the tan background isn't really getting to me with the other bright colorful colors in the layout. I'm imagining the site with a white background right now, but then again, that may be a little bright, so I guess it's fine this way.
What I noticed when I clicked on your navigation links is that your pages are very organized. I noticed that there may be some images used in your graphics that are not used with permission from the original owner, however, that's 90% of the graphic websites lol so I can't really complain about that~ they are designed nicely though, very nicely.
Also, on the topbanner, the little hello, visitor seemed to be a bit plain and unnecessary haha well I guess that was the other factor that resulted in the welcoming feeling. possibly it could have been in a bold font? It looks a tiny bit plain just like that~
Content-wise, you have many many layouts that are designed very well, again, possibly images that are not legal to use, but there are many which impressed me- If all of the graphics that featured images that were illegal were taken down, your site would be close to empty =x so I believe that saves your website for the current time being =)
You also have many many photographs! wow over 300 that's also impressive. I don't have time to go through all of the pages right now, but I'll definitely take a glance later on!
Overall, your website is really decent, however, I guess it's just that first impression that settled on me when looking at the layout- it just didn't seem quite, "wow" @_@. but it's definitely reasonable and you're definitely doing a good job. Your site will flourish by the time you know it!Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

I think there might be more moniter issues than I imagined; on my screen the background is light grey... Regardless, the next layout is about half done so dwelling on this one makes no difference :)
To quote my response to Aisling's review: The "Hello, Visitor" is a precurser to the redesign. I'll be adding accounts so that people can login, manage their work easier, and comment. I already have the system somewhat in place, though only certain people know how to login as they're helping me test it out. The "Hello, Visitor" changes if you're logged in and replaces "Visitor" with your username :)
Thanks for the review :)

I like all your colors. They look fun. The purple doesn't fit, and I think it would look better as just a dull gray. Oh, the header and the footer both impress me a lot!

All I can say is nicely organized :( But I mean it.Contact
The input areas need more styling! Otherwise, it is very nice.Okay. This site is going in my bookmarks and I'm probably going to stay up till next morning looking at/reading everything. Good luck on your revamp.
Can I ask something? Why not just use WordPress for this? I think it can get the job done.

skyefairy's Response:
@thumbnails: I have them on the individual pages, and the indexs will be gone with the redesign. Did you mean somewhere different?
@wordpress: Wordpress has a very distinct type of coding and (I know, I've tried) it is sometimes difficult to get it to do specific things you want it to do unless you search for specific plugins or write them yourself. To me, it seems sort of redundant to spend tons of time finding ways to work around a script when I could write one myself (which I've done; the redesign will expand on this) to do exactly what I want it to do. Plus, every time Wordpress upgrades (which is often), it could potentially mess up much of the work done for previous versions.
Thanks for the review :)

on 18th Nov 2008 and said:My first impression of the site is that it feels very... calm. Soothing. I don't know why. It's a nice impression, and I love your idea of a collective art gallery. It's much more intimate than, say, DeviantArt. I like the concept, and I think for such a MASSIVE project, you have it well organized and it doesn't seem to be bloated at all. I really love the picture of the header image; I'm sure I don't need to say that the picture had better be yours, considering the site I'm reviewing, but it never hurts to mention. If you're infringing on a copyright, you're nothing but a hypocrite.
You have "Hello, Visitor!" written in your banner for no apparent reason. It's black, it's small, and it's completely unnecessary. Just delete it. It's not 1999, and people don't need a website to tell them hello anymore. They're too busy searching for information to notice a frivolous little greeting emanating from their screen.
I have quite a lot to say about your color scheme. First, the purple clashes with everything else; it's too bright for the rest of the somewhat muted scheme. I also honestly think the green you're using is some hybrid between snot and vomit. It could just be me and it's a lovely chartreuse in reality but... I think it's not the case.
In your various gallery sections, you have a link to the "Submission Information." This looks like it should be a header for something, and it most patently isn't. It's not really a good idea to change your link colors within the same body of text unless you make it patently obvious you're doing so. Personally, you can delete that from the sections as well. There's a submission link at the top of the screen, right next to the links one must have clicked to view your galleries. Any visitor worth their salt remembers where the navigation is, and what you could generally find in it.
Your link to the submission form at the bottom of the "Submit" page is very nondescript... as mentioned above, the link practically matches your headers. I think you should center the text and make it a different color -- perhaps the teal of your other links? Or hell, just stick the submission form on one page. I know the idea is to cut down on stupid submissions by having a preceding "guidelines" page, but really, I feel like you're being unnecessarily wordy and link-y by having the separate link to the submission form, rather than shoving it on the same page.
I also think it's silly to change the font for your forms. It's not necessary to go from whatever your font is (verdana?) to century gothic JUST for a form. Keep it constant. You already have a lot going on with your crazy color scheme -- there's, what, seven colors? Teal, aqua, pink, light grey, dark grey, green, and lavender. In fact, there appears to be two pinks -- the salmon at the top, and the more fuchsia color of... everything else. There is a fine line between color brilliance and color madness. From one artist to another, I believe you're on the precipice. You can guess which one I think you're dancing towards.
Looking at your Affiliates links... what the hell is "daoine" affiliation? If I'm correct, it's an irish/gaelic term for fairies... but really, how many people actually know that? It's a bit obscure, and people may think they're not in the right place, because they want to affiliate themselves with Skyefairy, and Daoine is most blatantly NOT the same thing, as far as the word goes (nevermind the meaning). You might want to clarify on the page somewhere about that small point.
Your code is nice, and that makes me very happy. I think your site, overall, is a very worthy and original concept that appears to be quite successful in its intimate realm. However, I feel as though your design can be amped up by simply toning down the numerous colors and keeping with consistency.
UPDATED 18 Nov 08:
No, I am quite correct in my ascertaining of your colors. You have all the hexadecimal codes in your CSS to prove it. You don't just have "blue," you have multiple shades of it, as you do grey and pink. Pick a single shade of each and stick with it, if that's your plan. Too many colors gets to being messy.Using Safari on Mac | Report This?
skyefairy's Response:
Yes, the header image is mine. The full image is viewable in my photography gallery on the site.

I'm already working on a new layout. What I was going for here, however, was a black and white gradiation with pastel-ish colors as highlight. Perhaps our moniters portray color differently; there are four colors: pink, purple, blue, and green.
Thank you for your suggestions; I'll keep them in mind with the redesign.

on 18th Nov 2008 and said:I like the assortment of colors. It's very cheerful :) The photo you chose for the header image is adorable!
I like the overall layout. It's very simple, there's nothing that distracts me from the content and it's put together very neatly.
I like the way your inner pages are set up -- the links divided into the gray boxes. They're a little uneven on the your tutorial page, which distracts me a little, but overly so.
I love your organizations tutorial -- I'm a bit of a freak like that. Anyone who cowebs a fan site with me finds my love of putting everything into a folder somewhat annoying, but I can't imagine life any other way ;)
I'm not an expert on CSS or anything, so I won't critique your tutorials, other than I didn't notice anything that screamed WRONG.
I'm no expert on creative design, but I like the different vectors, blends and colorizations you've posted. Very pretty.
Overall, I think you have a fantastic site. There's already a great deal of content, all of it organized nicely and with lots of color, one of my favorite things ;) Keep up the great work!

The tutorial page bothers me too, but I plan on giving the boxes more room in the next design so that this doesn't happen again.

on 18th Nov 2008 and said:HAI SKYE! Today, I shall be reviewing Skyefairy. Duh. Enough with the formalities, let's get in there, shall we?
This design is very cute, and nice, and I really like it. The Hello, Visitor at the bottom of the image is... odd, however. I hardly noticed it, and when I did, I was like "Huh?"
Your entries are well spaced, as is the whole layout, really. Lots of space, which is nice. Your footer is also lovely, I love the grey.
Your creative arts section is very original, and definitely memorable. It is such a cool idea to have so much creativity from all over the world in one place! Some of the web designs use celebrity images, which is a little bit of a lack of creativity, in my opinion. :( I must admit, even with the copyrighted images being used, I really love this one, SO much! The footer is scary!
Here's what I can suggest. REALLY draw more attention to the opening paragraph that explains what the site is. Because, I skipped over the paragraph myself, and if I weren't familiar with the site, I would have NO CLUE what sort of site this is.
You could also add a section about the site, what it's for, how it works, where you want it to go, and that sort of thing. This is the kind of site that not only NEEDS an explanation, but DESERVES it. You can look at any old personal blog and be like "Oh. Personal blog." But this one is much trickier.
It IS a really original site and something that could be greatly expanded on, even to the point of rivalling dA. (Except, obviously, with better art than some of the crap on dA, and yes, I do include myself as one of the crap artists)
Good luck with your revamp! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
