May I just add that I am regular visitor of your site and I am personally a fan of it, but I hope that won't make my review biased and honest all the way. I also hope you like it and maybe implement some of the suggestions that I gave you to improve your site even more.
I reviewed your site using Firefox on Windows XP with a 1280x1024 resolution.
Firstly, the first impressions were great. The layout was simple and unique. The colour scheme is bold and matches the style of the layout. I especially love how you used Mary-Kate (or is it Ashley) as a stencil and on the background is an array of colourful circles, which caught my eye.
Secondly, the side bar is simple not cluttered and had relevant information that will benefit the visitor in getting to know your site.
Thirdly, the content of your site is a well done, you rely on quality not quantity which some sites have and slightly pisses me off. I would rather visit a site that has little but good quality content.
The other content or may I call it a feature of your site that I adore is the Hollywood one. Is very unique, no other site has one like it, and it's a reason why I like to visit your site. Can you please update more?To summarize, I really love your site, I have no drastic and important suggestions to improve your site, apart from update the hollywood section!

thanks! I'm really glad that the hollywood section is such a hit! I'll try and update it more, especially the reviews... I've been neglecting those.
And yes, that is mary-kate :)

The colors are awesome. I'm all for bright nicely complimenting colors on a black background. lol It's one of my website weaknesses. The only real complaint I have is that the navigation text on the top doesn't match. I think you should make it a little smaller or separate them in some way that we can see that is the nav. OTherwise, I really love your layout.I do like the way that your content is organized on the content page. It really does make it a lot easier to be able to see what is what and go right where you want to go.

aww, thanks!!! I'm going to be putting a new layout up soon, so I'm probably going to be rearranging some things, including the navigation.

misschris's Response:
hmmm... it shouldn't be down :-/ Although, I did ban an IP address the other day (long dramatic story...), so I'm hoping I didn't accidentally ban your IP instead of the person I meant to ban. If it still seems down for you, message me letting me know, and also message me your IP address (if you know it) so that way I can check to see that I didn't ban you.

It's also easy to read the posts because you chose a color that makes it readable. :)
As you say personal things in yout post, it would be interesting to tell a little bit more about you in your sidebar and put some other things there just to make it a little more personal.
And I didn't understand one thing: if the "content" page has resources, why is there a section called "freebies" ?
Isn't the resources free?Anyway, you have a nice site :)
:*Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?
misschris's Response:
aww, thanks! I'm actually thinking of doing away with that whole freebies sections. It mainly just include very old graphics that I either never got around to finishing or didn't like, and aesthetics-wise, they're kind of outdated anyway.
Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it!

on 2nd Dec 2008 and said:Design/Layout: Usually it's hard for some people to pull off a black background with readable text, but you've managed to tie it down, well done. Your color scheme is just right also, not too bright and not too dark. I like the pink and yellow variations.
Your sidebar, to me, seems rather small. I feel it could be a pixel or two bigger in width and the text size a tad larger. Could be just a personal preference of mine though. ;)
Content/Pages:
Content: You do realize that "content" is everything and anything on your website in the form of text and imagery? So, for your page to be called "content", well to me, it doesn't make much sense. Viewing what is on this page, I think a more appropriate name for it would be Resources, as you are offering resources to visitors.
The links aligned to the middle doesn't look all the great. I can understand why you put them there, to make the page not look so empty, but sadly it doesn't look clean to me. A suggestion for this page would be to possibly make little thumbnail images for each resource and description to go with it. Makes the page look less plain and more organized.
Under the "Patterns" page, I noticed you have quite a few patterns to give out. I'm viewing your website on a very larger monitor and for me to have to scroll down more so then what I would want, I can't imagen how much some one with a smaller (1024x768) monitor would have to scroll. You can easily fix this by putting so many patterns on one page. Like five or ten per page.
At first I thought Scripts meant hand coded scripts that you created or something, but I see now that they are just PSP filter scripts. I think you show change the link on the content page to reflect that. Also on the PSP Scripts page, the link for the tutorial on how to use them, I think it would look better after the line that separates the above paragraph and download links. I feel it would be noticed more in that area.
Same goes for your Photoshop Actions. I like how you show the before and after images on the page, rather then links like in the PSP Scripts. Why not do this for both?
I feel you could be utilizing images a bit more in your "content" pages, as it would make them less plain and empty looking. I came to this because of your "Brushes" page. Why would I want to download something I have no idea what it looks like? Also, it would be nice to have not only image packs (which are helpful) but also PSP and Photoshop formats of the brushes, for easy uploading!
For your Myspace layout, you could add a little thumbnail preview for each. It's almost like teaser and gets the visitor wanting to click on the preview button, to then possibly using the layout.
I'm not so sure about the "freebies" section, aren't all the resources you have here considered "freebies"? Also under this section, I'm a little confused about the "codes" section. They look like little images to me? Maybe an explanation of what they would be used for an why they are called "codes" could help me out.
Under tutorials, its a little messy that you jump from tiny image "tutorials" to text. Also your convert a site to PHP is a little misleading. You're not really converting a site to PHP, just adding PHP includes to the page. I could be wrong about this, but I'm "converting a site to PHP" would hold a much more different meaning.
I wasn't too impressed with this section as I feel your tutorials could be a lot more lengthy and more in depth then they are now. =/
The Buzz: This link should not be in your MAIN navigation if it goes to a whole other website. I would suggest placing this link in a "network" page or possibly in your side bar, warning visitors that they are leaving the site to go to a forum!
Hollywood: Interesting information here. Again, I feel you could really utilize images with these pages.
Site: How about some site related content? Like History or past layouts! Sure advertising or affiliates may pertain to the "site" section, but the music player and about me pages are unrelated to this page. Not that it is a bad thing, because I see this is not the main focus of the site!
Under your about me page, towards the bottom there is a large gap between your footer and the end of the content for this page. Just a heads up to fix as it looks odd. ;)
Coding/HTML/CSS: It's good to see that you are using DIV tag rather then Table! One thing I noticed off the bat is that your are miss using the ID attribute. For example, your ID attribute for "centre" needs to be changed to the CLASS attribute. You only use the ID attribute for one single element, while the CLASS attribute is used for multiple elements, which you are currently doing.
Your BR and IMG tags also need to be closed. Example:
<br> = <br />
<img src="LINK" alt=""> = <img src="LINK" alt="" />Also the CENTER tag is a little outdated and can be alternated in many ways. One being the margin cheat = which would be
margin: 0px auto;
or
text-align: center;
Other then that, your HTML code is clean and correct. Now lets see about your CSS.
Hmm, a little messy and a few of these wrong. One, you don't have to the # symbol in front of header tags. You can simply write out h2. Also if you have more then one tag that shares the same styles, you can easily put them together. For example:
h2, h3, h4 {
font: 5em #ffffff bold;
}Also, I didn't notice this in your HTML code, but the "bold" and "italics" tags are not B an I...those are out-dated. STRONG and EM will get you the effect and technically the correct use.
Overall, your website wasn't a total eye-sore or bore, but I can see it needs a lot of work done to it. It has potential and I'm sure with a few tweaks here and there, it'll be pretty awesome in no time. Good luck! =)

Just wanted to say sorry about that. I type fast and sometimes forget to look over my work before submitting it. =/

wow, thanks, that was a lot of helpful information there! I'm usually so scared to get my site reviewed, because I'm kind of stubborn and think I'm doing everything right, but I understand it's a learning process, and it's important to get other's critiques and input, so I thank you for that! Looks like I have a lot of work to do, haha! I should go work on that now.... :)

on 2nd Dec 2008 and said:I love the colour scheme of your website, the multi colours used work well with the black background and I love the simplicity of your layout, again the white and multi colours used work really well with the black background. I like that image you have used for your layout, and the effect it has. I also like the headers of the sidebar and blog, however the sidebar for me is far too small and the text size is also very small, making it hard to read.
Content area
Your main content page is easy to navigate which is nice because you don't have to waste time searching through pointless pages.
There is no preview images on the main script page, which is annoying because you have to click 2 links to see what the effect looks like and then if you don't like it you have wasted your time. I suggest you present your scripts in a different way to this. However the scripts are really nice, and useful for visitors I love the fact that not only do you offer scripts for paint shop but also actions for photoshop, this is really good for people who do not have paint shop but have photoshop and vice versa. I love how you have given these previews to the actions, it's a much better way to the scripts. Looking at your brushes you haven't included previews again, you have used links..this is really annoying. But I like the brushes. I really feel that you need to improve your preview images and content areas because now with those links it looks very empty and un-attractive. Your icons are different but infortunetly I don't like those kind of flashing icons, I don't see where they can be used, and the second lot of icons are quite a different size and shape, meaning they wont be useful for msn etc. I don't understand what those codes are, when I click them nothing happens? On a positive note, your tutorials are useful, simple and easy to use/follow. The hollywood section on your site is unique and I love that, it shows that you are into celebrity gossip and such, it's nice I enjoyed visiting this section the best! Your site section has some nice information where your visitors can get to know you a little more, maybe as this is the site section, you could add some information on the site, eg. past layouts and the history, how and when you discovered web-design. Thebuzz is a nice feature also.
Overall, I think that you site does need alot of improvements and updates but it is certainly not the worst site I have seen. It has actually got the potential to be very successful if you jut add more content and fill in those 'blank areas' of your site. Good luck with this and I hope this helped!Using MSIE on Windows | Report This?
misschris's Response:
thanks, that was a lot of very useful information there! I always thought site histories were boring, but I guess not? I'll have to start writing that up! And I agree about the previews... I start working on that as well! Everything you said I kind of already knew about, and it's been on my secret "to-do" list for a while, but I never got around to it. But having someone else say it makes me realize now what I need to work on. Thanks for the input, it will be put to good use!
