so today i was actually looking forward to writing a review your site is kinda lame... skip to content does nothin at all! well thats the description for your site in onley 34 words!

    UPDATED 27 Nov 08:
What the heck? sorry i don't know how that got there. maybe my sister posted that? okay let me start over!

I'm going to skip the content, but i do love your ps brushes & your avatars!

your layout is kinda big & the brown curves at the top are kinda distracting maybe you should make them smaller.

& your blogs are kinda interesting..

    What's lame about it?
Constructive criticism would be GREAT! You reviewed my site in 12 words...

I finished my beast of an Economics paper, so as promised, here's my review of Jebelle.net :).

I don't know if I've told you this already, but I absolutely love this theme! I have the original of the flower brushed you used as your header, and wow, there is no way that I would have thought of colouring it the way you have.

The layout for my taste, but that's a matter of personal preference, more than anything else. I'm kind of disappointed that you took away the hover on "Jebelle.net", though.

I love your navigation! I keep on hovering and playing with it (my attention span is a bit lacking, as you can see :P). I would have preferred it if the navigation images were all the same width, though, but that could also just be my anal-retentiveness showing.

I really like how a lot of your elements change on hover. You have maximised your colour pallette effectively, for sure. The only thing I don't really like are the borders (and the border hovers) of your Flickr images, as I'm not really understanding where the lavender is coming from. Maybe you can change it to a pink or blue tone that would be much more cohesive with the rest of your layout? Though, that's really just me being nitpicky about your layout. As I've said - I really do love it!

    Now on to your content...

    ABOUT

    Meet Tracy
While you've provided us a good deal of basic information about you (yay, Munich!), I think you could still give us a bit more. Like Clem mentioned, maybe you could say more about your hobbies? Likes and dislikes?

    Random Things
You listed a great set of facts here and good number of them were definitely interesting. I find "I monitor strangers" a bit odd, though. What exactly do mean by that? And I agree with not being able to study medicine (reason #94783 why I'll never be a good Asian kid :P) - I can't stand the sight and smell of blood, either.

    Blogging
While this page is fairly unique (I haven't seen anything like it yet), I'm not sure if this fits under your "About" page. This will probably fit better under your "Domain" page, if anything.

    My Top 5
I don't really have anything to comment, except VERBOTEN LIEBE! I love that show (or what I can understand of it, that is)! Though, I'm not going to lie - I really only watch it to see pretty German boys makeout (yay for Christian and Ollie) :P.

    What do I study
I second Clem's question mark suggestion. "What do I study" by itself, without the question mark at the end, look really weird to me. You have a really interesting major, I have to say. What made you decide to take Cartography? You gave us a lot of really good information about the major itself (thanks for that!), but I'm kind of interested to know why you decided to major in it. Maybe you can elaborate a bit more about that?

    Fanlistings
Fairly typical. We seem to like the same bands and movies :). 10 Things I Hate About You = WINNN.

    DOMAIN
Standard information, though I do like how you came up with the name Jebelle. It's grammatically incorrect in French, but hey, it's cute ;). Your past layouts are beautiful! I especially love the third to last one. Maybe you can implement a Lightbox script on this page? Or at least for the ones with a bigger version? The way you've organized your Archives page is great, too. I love how organized everything is, and how you've given us the option of browsing it by month, by category, and by entry.

    Treats
Ooh, PS Actions! I'm at work now (shh, don't tell my boss ;D), so I can't test out the actions, but I'll do that as soon as I get home. You should probably use a bigger test photos, though, as I don't think the ones you have now are fully showing what your PS actions are capable of doing.

As for the avatars, while I love the photos that you've used (did you take them yourself?), I'm not really liking some of the text you've placed on them. Likewise with some of the colouring.

Your PS brushes are lovely. The circles are particularly good, and I'll definitely be downloading them once I get home!

The recipes look great, too. I'm a not a cook, so I don't have too great of an appreciation for them, but I'm sure there's tons of people out there who would love to try out what you have. Under Pasta Carbonara, it should be "2 egg yolks", not bolks, and under Cupcakes, it should be "1/2 cup cocoa", instead of coca. And you have the recipe for flotnis! Guh. I must convince someone to make these for me!

I must say, I really enjoyed visiting your blog. I don't know why I haven't added you yet to my links, since you're in my feedreader and I often read your blogs, but I'll def do that now.

You have a beautiful design up, as well as a lot of great extras for your visitors to see and read. Awesome job, Tracy!

    Tracy's Response:

First of all, thank you for your sweet words :)

The hover on Jebelle.net. Uff... hmm... I might add it again. I guess some people find it "too much" and some really like it. I guess I'll have to decide if I want to keep it or not. So, I might add it again.

Ok, I'll change the flickr border. Mimi (another reviewer of my site) asked me about it and I answered "The blue-ish lavender is the is kind of the complementary to the dark brown. I thought it was a nice difference :)" I guess it looks kind of odd though.

ABOUT: I'll add more content when I'm done with my thesis (next year February). Unfortunately the paper really eats all my time, but I'll be more than happy to add my hobbies (ok, which hobbies?? :P ), likes and dislikes. I've added pages like this to other layouts of mine, so I might still have the files.

Random Things: "I monitor strangers" hehe :D. When I'm waiting for someone in a public place I enjoy just waiting, and looking at the people passing by me. It's not that I stalk strangers whatsoever :P I'll change that paragraph though, I don't want to freak people out ;)

Blogging: Will move it to the Domain page

My Top 5: lmao! Verbotene Liebe! Christian & Olli! haha, that's great that you understand why I love it so much :P I haven't watched it in weeks and watched it again yesterday, and, it's sooo easy to follow up again.

What do I study: Oh boo, I thought I added the ? to it, I must have forgotten. I'll add it in the navigation. "What made you decide to take Cartography?" --> That's something I can add to the content, and I will.

Fanlistings: Still love them, after all these years :)

DOMAIN: I never had french, so I just opened my dictionary and searched for "I" and "nice". I h ave the lightbox .js so I might add it to the past layouts section. Never thought about using it there, to be honest, but thanks for the suggestion.

Treats: I took the photos on my avatars. I created the ones with the text long time ago, I don't like that anymore either, I'm just too lazy to change it :P

Thanks for pointing out the "bolks" (not "yolks") I'll change both the errors you mentioned asap. You know Flotni? That's awesome ;)

Thanks for your great and detailed review. I'll change the things you pointed out asap (I mainly do that at night, when I'm exhausted of all the thesis writing). I'm glad you like my site!

    UPDATED 25 Nov 08:
Oh, I see you added a rounded footer to your site. Looks much better. I thought of pointing it out, but the squared corners didn't bother me that much.

  3. Mandarks gave it ***** on 24th Nov 2008 and said:

When I clicked the link I really wasn't expecting it to be so bright. But outside of that its pretty neat. Simple cute, really looks like a personal site. I like it. The header is a little blurry and looks to have been saved for faster loading but it's pretty bad though. Really love the navigation on the right. Although it would have been great had the blog link not been highlight. Just looked weird till I hovered over the other links.

    About page
neat the left section changes. Love the pic, gives off a air of mystery to first time visitors. Pretty funny as well. Very neat, with the pictures at the bottom. shows to me that your proud of your work but to the point where the previews are large and obnoxious about it.

    Domain page.
Again very neat to the point and with the right amount of importation to anyone wanting to know more about the domain in general. Pretty neat that you have the Domain related information section. First time seeing something like that. I really dig the left navigation. still not over how neat that is.
Tutorials/Ressources < accidental mistake? (found on the links page)

    Treats page.
Real pleasure. Love the formatting. Fast loading, neat and organized, and with a pretty neat recipes section.

    Overall
Great website. Unbelievably organized. Fast loading all around, easy to navigate. Very detailed in places that need them. I really enjoyed going to this site.

    Tracy's Response:

You're right, the header was quite compressed to able a faster loading time.

Tutorials/Ressources accidental mistake, yup. I changed it.

Thanks for your review and kind words :)

This is a very cute blog. There were a couple of problems that I found, however. Maybe its just my web browser, but the main blog is halfway down the page, far away from the layout. Also, when I tried to access the "treats" there were no links. Once again, it just may be my browser, so don't sweat it! You are from Germany? That is really cool. You write English really well. Your avatars are cute, but I would love to see more of your artwork. Keep up the good work, your blog is really interesting. Great job, and have fun!

    Tracy's Response:

That's odd. I'm sorry for that, that kinda sucks.

Thanks for your kind words though :)

First impression? The layout is incredibly lovely! It's really creative, the colours are calming, and the navigation is adorable. Personally, I suck at coding, so I'm slightly jealous of you. :)

The recipes are really helpful. I fail at baking /cooking, but I still love reading recipes, because they make me somewhat confident... Someday I'll be able to make them, is what I think. Well, hopefully.
I'm also a PS-brush-addict, and your brushes are beautiful. I stopped doing graphics a while ago, but they make me want to start it again.

I enjoyed reading your "About" section. I'm learning at a German bilingual high school right now, and I'm in love with German language. I want to live either in Germany or in England in the future. And I also love Die Ärzte! The first song I heard from them was Junge. The clip freaks me out, it remind me of Resident Evil. Anyway, time to my the random ranting.

Overall, I love your site. It has got a certain feeling to it - a positive one!

Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

    Tracy's Response:

The recipes aren't that hard. Try them ;)

Die Ärzte are awesome! Junge is great. A newer song, but still great. Yeah, the clip freaks me out as well hehe :D

    Thanks for the review!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    First Impression:

Your site is one of my top sites for inspiration. No anyone else reading this, not COPYING. That's different. I see the colors or the shapes and it gives me my own ideas. I just LOVE your designs. I remember the last one (I think?) that was dark with the green on the top of the table... I loved that one, too. Anywho, I guess my first impression is "DAYUM!". :P

    Coding:

Your CSS validates but I am getting 7 errors for your XHTML. Just a heads up! ^^ I believe it is related to the video that you currently have embedded in your post. Other than that, I can't really say much about your coding. It kinda pwns my coding and I already know it is superb.

    Design:

Did you make the header image bigger on your layout? I swore it was smaller than that... It looks like it got kind of fuzzy and pixelated... I know when you re-size in Photoshop if it's not a vector image it will do that. I also think that the site title looks nice but I would like it more without the very final 1px stroke you put on it. It seems a bit excessive and it's also pixelated.

I love how the top and the bottom are drawn together with somewhat matching backgrounds. It looks nice. However, I think the "Skip to Content" link seems a bit superfluous since you can pretty much see the content right away. Maybe smaller resolutions can't? I don't know, I have a giant resolution. Maybe a "Skip to footer" link or something? To match the link in the footer that takes you to the top? Personally, I think it would look best with nothing up there at all! :D

Your use of colors, I must note, send my senses into a sweet reverie. I could not get over that when I first visited so long ago. Color is so essential but it seems people either misuse it or are afraid of it. I think you and color have a great relationship. :) I was kind of wondering where the blue-ish lavender (you have the photos in the footer outlined in them) came from?

I also love the tabs sticking out all over. I have been wanting to make a layout like this forever but I don't even know WHERE to start, hah! Anyway, your design seems very detailed and I love seeing all of these little details you have worked on all over it (IE- Posts that have been read on the 'Recent' list are a different color and in 'Recipes' how the list icon changes color when you hover over it. :)

    Content:

I was reading your 'About Tracy' page and clicked on the link that said "Alex, the boyfriend (aka the Lover)" but it took me to a picture of cotton candy. LOL Tracy is in love with a man made of cotton candy! Oh I tease, I tease! And, ohmy, Russians scare you! HAHA Oh man, your Tracy section is interesting! I also found out that I am a C-List blogger. I was expecting them to be like, "You are a Z list blogger, which means no one gives a shat about what you write". The way you have listed your favorite things in the 'Top 5' method is pretty original! I like that idea. Makes for better reading than long lists.

Oh wow, I just realized I used to go to Cuddle Bug!! I remember thinking that I would never be that amazing.. Oh sorry, I'm not trying to kiss your ass or anything. I'm just floored that you owned that site and I didn't even know it until just now!! Your accessibility page is impressive, I might look into making my site more accessible after this. Your disclaimer is very official and I must say, it scares me a bit. :P

For your 'Treats' (I absolutely love the name for that!) it's pretty cool that you used your own photos to make avatars. I dig some of your brushes, will be downloading those. The backgrounds seem kind of odd and out of place since they are so pixel-ly and the rest of your stuff seems to be so, umm can't think of the word but, not pixel-ly? Sorry, that sounds dumb.

I was wondering why the Sand Cake recipe was measured by the metric system and the rest were not? I can't believe that the United States have not adopted the metric system. It makes me feel pig-headed and dumb. Argh, no more ranting. It does not belong here.

Oh I completely forgot to mention that at first, I didn't see the extra links in the sidebar and it took me a while to. I don't know why, maybe I am just not used to that system. I have had the same problem on other sites (even some I reviewed here!) before so maybe it's just me. -.-

    Final Thoughts:

Like that one girl said, MORE TREATS! :) I think you should make some Wordpress themes or something, you are completely amazing at making those. Maybe some kind of tutorial that shows how you make the style of layouts you do? Well, that might give away your secrets... We wouldn't want that! :)

Anyway, I am giving you a 5/5 because there isn't really much work you need to do. It's amazing. This is also the shortest review I have given here, which is also amazing. ;) Great job, Tracy!

Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

    Tracy's Response:

Hey Mimi, thanks for your review :)
I'm glad you use my site for inspiration :D
Nope, the header size is still the same. I know it looks fuzzy :( I created the header with Photoshop and not Illustrator, so, yeah.

I removed the "Skip to Content" link.

The blue-ish lavender is the is kind of the complementary to the dark brown. I thought it was a nice difference :)

Hehe, Alex is in the image on Flickr :P He's holding the cotton candy and you can see his mouth going "yummy" :D

You used to go to Cuddle-bug.net? Aw :D That's cool.

Don't be scared by the disclaimer, it's just a protection ;)

Well, the backgrounds were created a LONG time ago, when I was "into" those kind of backgrounds. Seeing you're not the only one disliking them, I might remove them sometime soon or create different ones.

The Sand Cake recipe is a German one, the other ones are American, so that's the reason it's metric.

I was thinking about creating WP themes, but that's soo much work (for now) :P I might some day. I like your idea of the tutorial, I wonder if I could write about on how I create the layouts. Maybe?

Anyway, thanks for the review, you're sweet ;)

rintakase gave it ****- on 12th Nov 2008 and said:

First, your site took quite some time to load.. around 15 seconds or so. Hmm, I think you have to improve on this.

As for your header image, I would say it's too big although it's cute (I like the color). I zoomed out (10%) and it's very good that you stretch your header's background so that it wouldn't break in bigger monitor (: I saw a 'Skip to content' link on top of your header. I think it spoils the look of your layout (a bit maybe?) and I don't think there will be anyone who clicks it as nowadays, our mouse has a 'scroller' in the middle.

I noticed that you have a lot of image rollovers in your site. I don't think this will benefit you or your visitors as images take quite some time to load (except for those who have fast internet connection).

Your footer is huge. In fact, I think it's too huge to be a footer. Somehow, I think it spoils the layout look too lol (maybe it's just me?) I felt blank looking at your footer. Maybe because your header is too nice that when I look at the footer, I felt something is missing.

Anyway, I didn't take a look at your content as it takes quite some time for your site to load.

Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

    Tracy's Response:

I honestly didn't even think of making the images smaller. Sorry about the loading time, I know that can be annoying.

I changed the image sizes and hope it'll load faster now. I might remove the hover effects, but I'm still too much in love with them at the moment ;)

I'll think about something for my footer. For now I removed some images to make it not as big.

    Thanks for the review.

Clem gave it ****- on 11th Nov 2008 and said:

Firstly, I love your website's name! I think it's really cute without being sickeningly adorable.

Your design is really beautiful. The colour choice, the shapes, the details, everything. As others have said, the header is quite large, a bit too much so for my taste. On 1024*768, which I am forced to use quite often, I can only see the first entry's title and nothing else.

Your sidebar is really cute, as is the navigation. I also love the "Recent" box at the bottom of the content area as well as the leaves, but your footer makes me a bit sad. I feel like there's this nice, impeccably-designed site, and then... BAM. A MASSIVE footer. Cutting the Flickr feed to 6 photos would reduce its size considerably and make it so much nicer to look at. Also, I would suggest putting a bit more space between each of the links in "© Tracy of Jebelle.net Wordpress tracy@jebelle.net Jump to Top". I also feel like the randomised quote could be added to the sidebar or something... it just seems out of place on the footer, and is making it unneccessarily large. It takes up almost the whole page in 1024*768!

    ABOUT
I do realise that English isn't your first language, and you're doing quite well - you have, however, made a few minor errors, so I'm going to correct the grammar on this page for you. All corrections will be made in bold.

"A lot of people write my name with an "e", as in Tracey; it's not quite right, but I've adapted to it. [...] although I love playing the piano, his songs never counted as my favorites."

"a bunch of Hello Kitty stuff and other. " What does "and other" mean?

"Living my life, I study Cartography and Geo Media at the University of applied Sciences in Munich; my thesis is about a radar satellite and forest detection, which I hope to complete by the end of December 2008." (The "during" was redundant.)

(Also, just randomly, it seems that after I click on a link, the hover is REALLY light. Too light, even.)

In all, I think you've definitely given the basics here, but I'd like to know more about you. Hobbies, maybe? That would be nice.

    - Random Things
Just nitpickily, why is the title on the page "Randomness" while on the sidebar it's listed as "Random Things"? Anyway, more grammar nitpicking!

"I have a German and American Passport, though I was born in Germany"

"The first time I voted for an American president was when I heard that George W. Bush was running for president again"

"I could never study medicine; I can't stand the sight or smell of blood"

"I hate flying; I take Valium on every flight - which won't even help in combination with red wine"

This is going to come off as exceedinly pedantic, but you seem to use commas where semi-colons should go. Also, I keep on getting tricked into thinking that your blue bolded text is really a link. Could you change that?

Now that I've got the criticism out of the way, this was a decent random facts page. There was nothing that struck me as particularly pointless.

    -Blogging
    "I cannot write!"
"German was always one of my worst subjects at school; I hated to write essays."
"I can express my feelings in written words, but that doesn't mean that it'll be good."
"please forgive me if I might not spell every word correctly or for using AE and BE in one sentence." (Question: what's AE and BE? Also, this sentence made me think of something: I don't hold the minor grammar errors against you, of course. It takes a lot of guts to create and maintain a blog in a language that isn't your native one, and I applaud you for that. I'm just trying to help you, so I hope you don't mind!)

"I tend to write in a sarcastic way." (Remove the -ally, since that suffix is typically used for adverbs.)

Okay, not going to go over every detail on this page, but it was nice. It would probably fit better under the Domain page since it IS about your blog, but overall it was informative and not something you see on many blogs.

    -My Top 5
Thank you for actually writing descriptions about all of these things! It makes it a lot more interesting to know *why* you like sushi and the Simpsons! Also, make sure you proofread this page - such errors as "Mainyl" and "the Simpsons. Has to be on my list" could easily be avoided!

    -What do I study
This is a question, so make sure to place a question mark after it on the sidebar! Anyhow, this was quite a nice page, and definitely not something that's seen on most personal sites. I knew that cartography had to do with maps, but I learned a lot after reading this page. Thanks for educating me. :)

    -Fanlistings Joined
    Straightforward.

    DOMAIN
Also straightforward; nothing much to comment on, which can be taken as a good thing in this instance.

    -History
Thank you for keeping this concise and not describing EVERY SINGLE online venture you've ever had!

    -Past Layouts
You can really see the progression here!

    -Links
    Very well-organised.

    -Accessibility
Fine, although access keys are actually worse for accessibility (I can't find an article right now, due to my faily Google skills).

    -Disclaimer
    Straightforward and bilingual, ooer.

    -Archives
Yeah. It's an archives page. Nice. A little long, but since you have a lot of entries that can't really be helped!

    TREATS
I'll start with the recipes since I can review them collectively: they sound very good. Recipes are a nice addition to any website, and quite original.

I don't use Photoshop actions, but yours are nice! I might have to download them and play around with my photos a bit, you never know.

Your avatars are lovely, and I'm guessing they're made with your own photography, which is also lovely.

I don't love the backgrounds; they seem kind of Geocities-esque?

The brushes are adorable, and if I can remember I will download some of them!

And so concludes your review. In all, I think you have a very well-designed website with nice content. Like I said, I think your About section was somehow lacking; you could have gone a bit more in depth and explained exactly who you are to the visitors. Your visitor content was generally high-quality too. The reason you didn't get 5 stars was because there were some issues with your design as well as minor grammar errors around the site. Keep up the good work!

    Tracy's Response:

Hey Clemmie, thanks for the review :)
I'm glad my domain name is being liked. It cost me a lot of thinking.

The Flickr badge only contains six images now. My creativity left me when designing the footer. I tried a few days ago again, but nope, still gone. I made the photos smaller too.

I changed the space in it too and added the feed reader to my asides in the index page.

I think it's great that you correct my English. Of course, I'm a little in panic now, seeing I write my thesis in English *swallow*. Thanks for that though, I'll read through the corrections again asap and change my paragraphs.

    Changed the link color.

    Hobbies? Ok, will add asap.

    Change the bold text.

Oh, I thought I added AE and BE to my abbreviations. It means "American English" and "British English". Hm, they are in my plugin - I guess it's not working correct then :/.

I read about the access keys. I like to use them though, so I kept them.

"I don't love the backgrounds; they seem kind of Geocities-esque?" Oh yeah! I've had them for years :D

    Thanks again!

Your site is gorgeous. Personally, I liked your last layout (the dark sexy one with random bursts of colour in the form of stars *drool*) more, but this one is also nice. The colours are lovely. Your attention to detail is fantastic, as always. Your footer is GINORMOUS. No complaints with the layout.

Your about page is informative, and you come off as a very fun, witty girl! Your random facts page had actual good facts! And your What do I study page is VERY original. Your site page is pretty standard, has a good amount of information. I don't like the hover colour on links I have visited on your links list, because it is practically non-existent.

I never know what to expect on Misc. pages. The navigation is quite confusing in this area. I had no idea where I was supposed to find it. :( I found it eventually, and the actual content is good, but this page does seem a bit messed up. :(

Overall, your site is gorgeous, and I am totally jealous. ;)

I liked the last one better too, but it was time for a change ;) Plus, the one column layouts like my last one were seen everywhere (I got into a conflict because of it) so... yeah.

I have NO idea what else to write about my site. I know you don't like the standard "about the site" pages, so, any input on what I could add/remove/edit?

Will check on the hover/visited links.
Agree on the navigation in my misc page. Will change :)

Smooch on Belly for your review! (translation: thanks Ash!)

Tracy, you have always had beautiful site designs, and this one, of course, is no different. I adore it! In fact I sometimes check out your old designs to get some inspiration for my own designs because first of all you have so many, and second because they are all so good. I also love your navigation! I have not yet figured out how to get the alink image to be a certain way when you go to a separate page...if that makes any sense ha ha.

Your content is always fun and interesting to read. I think it's funny how your measurements are always in centimeters or meters...I generally have to look up how it converts for me to understand sizes ha ha, oh being American and using the stupid system we have is beautiful...gr.

I really see no issues with coding or spelling or anything anywhere so far...yup, everything is good! Very nice :) Again, I just love your site and I really have no complaints about it at all! Something that is very nice is since your header image is so large that you included that "skip to content" link, it makes your site very convenient, although it's not difficult to scroll down ha ha, but you know, we are all lazy beings ;)

Oh and your footer, beautiful! I love the quotes that change at the bottom. I know this review gave no suggestions for improvement, but really, I don't know what to suggest! Everything seems perfect. Getting a ton of compliments is never a bad thing though right?

I remember visiting your website a long time ago. The name Jebelle has been stuck in my head for quite a long time now, which is a good sign, yes? I'm already excited before visiting your website :o

Well, I'll start talking about your layout first since that's basically my first impression of Jebelle. Your header really brought my attention at first sight. It really looks pretty and calm where it stands. The gradient colouring is really nice as well. Thumbs up for great colour choices!
I also like the rollovers on your navigation, it's a nice touch in my opinion. The navigation itself is really great as well, I like how it's somewhat different on every page, like the little music box on your 'About' page. The 'Skip to content' link is quite useful too, as your header is quite large on a 800x600 screen.

I have to say I agree with Annen's comment about your PS brushes. They don't really give me that preview feeling (...), and I'd also like them to be in .rar or .zip. I don't know, I just feel safer downloading stuff in a zipped folder. But that's just me though..
I'd also like point out a little typo on one of your PS Actions images, it says 'Vintag Action' on the second image instead of 'Vintage Action' as it says on the link for downloading. Just wanted to let you know.

Oh, and one more thing: I absolutely love that you have random quotes at the bottom of every page. That is absolutely awesome! I've been looking for so long for a website that has this little feature (my latest obsession). A good trick for making me refresh the same page over and over again.
'A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. - Mark Twain', ah, that one must be my favourite.

I love the fact that you blog in both English and German. I admire you for that. Expect a few messages from me in the future (until I can speak fluent German. Don't worry, that's long waiting time). I'll be visiting your website a lot from now on (wink-wink).

    Tracy's Response:

"as your header is quite large on a 800x600 screen" ah yeah, I know, too big for that resolution.

Thanks for the brushes suggestion and the .zip file. I'll also change that on my next update of my site. Thanks for the typo :)

I actually added the random quotes a few days ago. I like that WP plugin so much and I love the quotes and I felt bad for not using them.

Thanks a lot for your review!

First Impression: I've seen your previous designs so I expected nothing less when I visited your current design the first time. I instantly fell in love with it. I'm never a big fan of flowery, pinky, girly layouts. But your design made me think otherwise.

Header: I like how you made the flower very unique and cartoonish, yet very wonderful in terms of color and outline. I like how you have white outlines on the flower and also the navigation bar, makes it look neat.

Container: The first thing that strike me is the outline of your container, a thin #8E7B6D colored line. This is the one thing that I thought was a bit off from your wonderful design. I think it would look better thick to fit the thick white outline on your navigation bar, header, footer, etc.

Asides: I personally see no wrong on your asides so lets skip that.

Navigation bar: although I see no wrongs in this one either, I'd like to compliment the way you designed this navigation bar. It's easy to navigate and also entertaining (yes I like to play on nav bars) the combination of the pastel color of green and blue is just wonderful!

Below Category: down your container, below the categories, there is a flat oval blue line. I like the color, and I like the fact that it balances the whole page, but I don't like the shape of it, it looks quite awkward.

footer: your footer is wonderful, it's like a whole new page on its own, you still manage to stick with the same color scheme even with the brown background!!

Overall: I love your design very much, the colors are splashy yet easy on the eyes which I like (and I don't know how you did that!) very much! Your previous designs are pretty amazing too, you rock!

    Tracy's Response:

    Aw, thanks :D

About the container border - some monitors are quite bright. At first I had no border around it, on my monitor it looked fine, then I looked at my design on another monitor and the beige background I have was almost white, so the content area looked kind of weird. I never tried a bold border, I could, I guess.

    Thanks for your review!

I wanted to join on here to give and recieve constructive reviews, but this time, it won't be too constuctive. Your site is simply too good to do anything about :o The header is cute and girlish, even without getting too pink and candy-flossy-too-much. Wow! You've done so much about the detail.

Let's go over it from the top: The border which is litterally at the top is cute! :p Adds a little cozyness already. The flower-header is so pretty :o The detail that you can rollover your site name is just pointless, but still, it's cute and it tells that you care for details in a way that only few people do.

If I was to say anything, you should make your brush previews better :p They looks too much alike and I probably wouldn't bother downloading and adding stuff I had no idea what looked like ;D

One thing's for sure, your layout has a big header this time, but it seems to blend in just perfectly for the design you've made. Your link at the top of the page makes it easier for the lazy ones to jump to the content too (myself included). I'm in favour of the colour scheme since it isn't glaring but is just soft and well, pleasing to the eyes.

How you structured your design is awesome! I love how you have a wide content and really small sidebars on the left and right, and a footer. It isn't all cluttered up in sidebars as opposed to other sites.

Content-wise, I've always enjoyed reading your posts (don't I enjoy everyone's which are properly punctuated/spelled?) There is a wide range of visitor content available too, and recipes aren't found that often in many personal sites :P

CSS and XHTML valid, beautiful design, good content, I've given you 5 stars! :D

First impression: Jebelle.net has the type of design I can only dream about making.

Design: A fantastic combination of colours here, and they all work together amazingly well. The brown of the footer/top line work well at grounding the rest of the design. The greens of the leaves are soft enough to catch the eye but to not compete with the bright colours of the flower petals, of which the bright pinks and blues are fantastic - they work together well, and are complemented by the yellow and the peach. My only complaint is a mild one about the header image would have to be the height (I am using a 1024x768 resolution on my monitor), but Tracy has managed to nullify the effects of this by having the "skip to content" link in easy reach and having it at just the "right size " so I can still see the title of the latest entry, at the very least.

About: The about section is clean and tidy, and I love the quirkiness of the photo taken from the back. The "what do I study" is a neat little touch, and the description of cartography is also useful - there are definitely some people out there who wouldn't know what that is!

You need to re-check your fanlistings page, as several links are dead or have moved (random links noticed include: Big Fish, Amanda, FTP, and White Flag - not all were clicked in my explorations). Other than that, the links are nicely laid out, and it is easy to see what interests you. It'll be interesting to see how Jolly.me turns out.

Domain: Again, everything here is well-written and laid out. Not much to say here, really, except this area really shows how you've grown and how much care you take - it's very nice to watch your progression as a web designer in your previous layouts section.

Misc: It took me a second to realise that this was your content section as normally content is listed as, well, content. But once that was over I was not disappointed to see that there was plenty of content here. Are there any plans on writing articles in your future? You're very eloquent and if you express yourself half as well in a tutorial/article as you do in the rest of your blog they should come out fantastic. You have a great eye for design and colours and I am sure that design-challenged people (like me) would love to hear your words of wisdom.

Overall: I think you have a fantastic site, both in content and design - I'm envious of your talent!

Thanks a lot for your kind words. Thanks for encouraging me on writing articles. I've thought about it, I've even started it. I'm a little scared though, seeing I can't write all that well and writing Opinions in English is a little hard for me. I'll think about it though.

I wonder why I named the content button misc... it's misleading I guess.

    Thank you for your review.

First Impression: Soft, bright colors that mix well against the neutral background. The flower image is interesting and cute. I like how the leaves come down into the content area. You have an eye for color.

About: Your first sentence has a small error. You list name twice. "name American name Tracy." I do that a lot when I type to. :) You have a lot of great information about yourself in this section. Your English is very good for having spoken German so much of your life.

Domain: I really enjoy that you go so far back into your internet history. It's like watching someone grow as a designer and coder in a manner of seconds. That was a very clever way to set up your archives page.

Misc: Recipes! I don't see that too often. It was a nice thing to add. They look yummy.

I enjoy your writing and you have a beautiful design. Someone could spend a great deal of time looking around your site and not get bored at all. I can't think of a single suggestion or suggest a single change. :)

    Design:
I've always been in LOVE with Tracy's layouts because they're always so cute and original. The colors are in abundance but they compliment each other very well, setting the whole tone of the website as one that's bright and cheery. I think Tracy's biggest win is that she definitely pays attention to detail which you can see in the icons that appear when you hover over the menu, the consistency of the link and hover colors, how lists are displayed on her blog, etc.

The menu and submenu positions is also very original but the only critique I have about that is that it gets confusing because sometimes links will appear on the bottom menu, or recent entries, recipes, asides, etc. There are so many pages that it's hard to remember where things are located. Nevertheless, aesthetically, it still looks good!

    Content:
I've always been a fan of Tracy's blog so nothing bad to say about that. Her blog is always a good read and keeps me entertained. She has plenty of content on her site to keep visitors happy (eg. patterns, backgrounds, photoshop brushes and recipes).

    Overall:
Web compliant website with a valid CSS stylesheet, BEAUTIFUL designs, pays good attention to details. 5 stars!

It's nice to know that my blog is good to read by some people. I'm never sure about this.

I agree that that links may be confusing. I actually only wanted the left little box to contain "more navigation links", but I changed that in the misc section.

I'll start with the layout first since that's what I first noticed. Overall, I love the layout. In fact, I'm jealous! I've been working on a design for a month and I'm just not happy with it! I love the header, the footer, the asides and the navigation. I was a little turned off by the flower graphic but I'm not sure why. It fits well with the rest of your site. Maybe because it's so large? I'm not sure. I really like the colors you chose though throughout the design. Color coordination is always the hardest part for me and I'm always jealous when I see a site pull off something like yours.

As for the content, I always thought of your site as mainly a blog but you do have other content on there. Shame on me! I had a look through your recipes and now that I'm married, I actually like recipes! Thanks for those. I'm always interested in seeing how they turn out. I don't really have any use for the goodies anymore.

I'll move on to the about pages. I hate shopping too! Are we the only girls that hate shopping? When I clicked on the My Style pages, I expected to find out something about your style. Instead, I just found out some random information about you as the page URL indicates. That was a bit misleading! Some people don't like seeing lists on personal sites but I do and here you just didn't list, you explained each thing on the list which I think adds a more personal touch. I also love King of Queens. I love Kevin James!

I didn't understand much on the What Do I Study page because well.. your education system is way different than the American one but I always find those types of pages very interesting!

Overall, I think you have a great site. Great design, great attitude, and great content.

    Tracy's Response:

Thanks a lot for the review.

I agree, the flower image is quite large, it's the biggest I had on Jebelle.net so far (I'm actually not a fan myself of large header images)

"and now that I'm married, I actually like recipes!" :D I figured, I'm going to live with my boyfriend soon, I need to start knowing some recipes! And because I lose them when I have them on paper, I put them online...

I also agree with the "my style" page. When I wrote that page I had no clue how to "name" the navigation. I still don't, actually. I'll try to think of something though.

Thanks a lot for the kind words and the input.
