I love your layout. It's extremely cute without being messy or cluttered. The colors are easy on the eyes and I can read all the text without trouble. I am very jealous of your design ability. There are a few points I want to make, but I don't see any big problems.
-I don't like how your Twitter code is right underneath the header. The way you've put it right there makes it seem like you're prioritizing it over other content in the site. I think that visitors are usually more interested in reading the blog or getting to the navigation then reading your tweets from Twitter. Plus, it looks sort of strange and a tiny bit disorganized how there is floating text right beneath the header. I think a better place for this would be on the sidebar.
-I think the footer sticks too closely to the content and clutters it up a little. On the long Blog page it's not really a big deal because you don't see the footer unless you scroll down all the way and there's more room between the footer and the content. However, the other pages on the site are shorter and the footer is very close so at first glance it almost looks like the footer is part of the content. I would put more space before the footer.
-I think a tiny bit more room between the sidebar and content might look nice. Consider adding a little more padding to the left side of the content.
Overall, I really like your layout. I especially love the cute mistletoe and the snowflakes on the bottom of the sidebar.
Content
On your sidebar, you have a paragraph about you under the "Welcome" section. This might be a little misleading because in a "Welcome" sidebar section people usually have a short intro paragraph to the site, and and intro to the site owner often goes under an "About Me" heading. That's just me being picky though; it's not a big deal if you don't want to change it.
The apostrophe in "I'm twenty one" isn't showing right; I think it's one of those annoying Microsoft Word ones. Just replace it with a normal apostrophe.
About
I enjoyed reading this and I like how it is short but informative. However, I think the links to the websites for the schools you've been to, the links to the Wikipedia articles for the places you've lived, and others links like that are pretty pointless. All the links are sort of distracting and keep the paragraphs from flowing as nicely as they would. I don't think that many people are going to take the time to visit the websites and read about the different schools and cities. I would just say something like "in the city of Placerville, California" and leave it like that, without the link. I would mention that it's in California because I was confused about that at first and I had to click on the link to check. I would also get rid of the other links that aren't so necessary, like the ones to the school websites.
While I did say I like how this is short, I think that you could dwell a little more on what your interests are now. You've written a fair amount about your history but not as much about what you like to do currently. People do like to read about your past, but they also are interested in finding out about the person you are today.
-Contact Me
This looks fine.
-My Name
There's something wrong with the apostrophes on this page; this usually happens when people copy and paste from Word. Word apostrophes are a pain. The easiest way to fix it is usually to use the Find and Replace tool on Notepad and replace the Word apostrophes with regular ones.
On this page, I enjoyed reading your own thoughts about your name, but I'm not a big fan of copy and pastes like the summary you've gotten from Kabalarian Philosophy. Things like that are usually interesting to the person they're about but not so interesting to the general public. I would keep your questions and answers but get rid of the summary.
-The Couple
I enjoyed reading this and didn't find any problems or anything.
-Cena Media
When I clicked on this, I didn't really know what it was going to be and so was surprised when it came up. It's a list of media you've enjoyed, right? Maybe make the title a little clearer so that people know what exactly they're clicking on.
-Portfoli-O
You should somehow indicate that this is an external link, maybe with an arrow icon or something, because I didn't know it was going to be.
Besides that, your portfolio looks nice and I really like the layout.
Site
Everything here looks fine to me. You've got quite a large collection of past layouts! I like the way you've organized them and how you've included information about each design.
Coding
I tried to check your XHTML Validation for the index pagebut it says here that it can't be checked because of an invalid character. This is because of that Microsoft Word apostrophe in the Welcome section on the sidebar that I mentioned. Change it to a regular apostrophe and you should be good.
Your CSS is valid, as you said on your Site page.
Overall
I really enjoyed visiting your site. I think that there are a few things you could improve on, tiny things in your layout and About section, but everything else is really good. I also read a few of your blog entries and enjoyed them.
The reason I didn't give five or four and a half stars is because I don't believe in giving those ratings unless the website is absolutely perfect and nothing could be better. Your site is great, but since it still has room to grow, I went with four stars.
Anyway, your site left a good impression and I will plan on visiting it in the future.UPDATED 24 Dec 08:
Yeah, that is weird. I don't really know why that would be.
It probably showed up weird when you copied and pasted because the reviewer maybe wrote her review in Word and then pasted it here so it's a word apostrophe.Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?
DarthCena's Response:
I am not sure why I am having the issues with the apostrophe's I do because I NEVER use Word to copy and paste from. I always use Notepad. However, the one in the welcome section was due to me taking the previous reviewer's suggestion and copy/pasting it from here. Weird.
Anyway, I appreciate the review and you gave some good pointers on things to improve on. Thanks! :)

Let’s begin!Layout
Your layout is simple and effective. The colors are very appealing, and fit well with the current season. The little mistletoe image is a nice touch, since it stands out boldly from the blue backdrop. That “highlight†at the top seems to be a new trend nowadays. Nothing wrong with that, though. It was merely an observation. My only problem with the layout is the white font on the blue side menu. It is quite hard to read, and it doesn’t allow the visitor to easily navigate through the links. I would suggest having the text in black, and the hover highlight in white, so that it is more easily legible at first glance.
Also, in your “Welcome†section, you wrote:
My name is Cristina, and I'm a twenty-one years old currently living in the Bay Area with my boyfriend Joshua and my two cats, Izzie and Bella.
To help it flow better, I would suggest writing it like this:
My name is Cristina. I’m twenty-one years old, and currently living in the Bay Area with my boyfriend and two cats, Izzie and Bella.
The location of all the elements (such as the search engine, the icons, the links, etc) is well organized. There’s no confusion as to where anything is. Your journal entries are also well-defined, so that visitors know where one entry ends and another starts.
About
May I just say, first and foremost, that you are very pretty.I enjoyed reading the paragraph about you and your life. However, I would give your interests a little more TLC. Make a bigger and more comprehensive list of your interests, so that visitors can find out about what you like in a more efficient manner. Perhaps filling out a survey about your interests would do the trick.
Your name is a very interesting, but I will leave that for when I contact you personally. ;) I also enjoyed reading about you and your boyfriend. You two look very cute together.
Site
The Anti-IE emoticon is brilliant. Personally, I think everyone needs to be using Firefox, but… unfortunately, there are people out there still using IE. I checked your site in FireFox, IE7, Safari, Netscape, and Opera. Your site works fine in all of them.I would suggest updating your Sitemap, since there are some links in your About section that your Sitemap does not list.
Your Resources page is excellent, and offers a lot of great links for your visitors. In fact, I’m currently installing the HTML Validator for Firefox as I write this.
Archives
Your Archives are just fine. You have everything you’re supposed to have (calendar, recent posts, etc.) There’s really nothing to critique here (other than what I have already mentioned about the link color), so I will move on.Final Thoughts
Overall, I’d say your site is VERY well done. You have a site that works well in the most popular browsers, and most likely would work in any browser. The only reason I gave you a 4.5 is because of these two issues:
--The links being hard to read since they are white on a light background.
--The Sitemap not being up-to-date with the Site itself.I think once you fix these two things, your site will be perfect. =]

Thank you! I appreciate all the feedback you gave me. I went ahead and changed that part in the welcome section around like you suggested. Once the holidays pass I'll have some time to deal with the link situation. Otherwise, thank you very much! :)

I'll be supplying you with my personal opinion about your site :)
If there are any problems with spelling, grammar and/or punctuation, I'm usually pretty helpful with that. I will be running your site through 'the' validator (http://validator.w3.org).
Having said that, let's begin.// FIRST IMPRESSION //
You have a very nice layout. It's cute and festive. I have to say I genuinely enjoyed the use of asterisks for snowflakes; so creative!
When I ran the site through the validator, it came up clean - kudos, good job, hero biscuit, etc. ;)// ABOUT //
You've neatly organised all of your information here making it nice to read.THE NAME:
This is so cool. In Canada - where I live - Christina IS a common name. Weird eh? (See? You can tell I'm Canadian. Ha ha ha!)THE COUPLE:
That's so cute. I'm a softy for couples pages. I find them so adorable and they lighten my spirits in the most non-creepy, non-stalker-ish of ways.// SITE //
Ha ha ha! I love that little emoticon with Firefox and IE. It's so funny. The other pages in this section (disclaimer, site map, etc.) are well written, of course, so good job. :D
// FINAL //
Well, that's all. I did take the time to read a few of your blogs and they are pretty mediocre. Cute, but mediocre; not enough to keep me coming back.
However, if you sent me some of that fudge . . . . Ha ha ha! Just kidding.
Anyways, the text of the site was flawless and the design it clean, cute and works good in all 4 browsers I have on my computer (Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google). I like cross-browser compatibility, perfect text, and am a sucker for a nice & neat layout therefore, I can not give you anything less than a 5 star review. :)
Hope you've enjoyed reading the review as much as I've enjoyed writing it! ~Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?
