    Sadly recieve a good idea of what to expect from this site based on what I see of the main page: Nothing much.
    There dosen't appear to be any form of standard for the site. While the navigation links are organized it is most annoying to see that not one, two, not even three, but seven pages contained nothing in them. That's almost 80% of your pages that have nothing in them even after several loadings. Weather by purpose or mistake, it dosen't really matter without any kind of notice.
    "Staff Specs" has no value unless its relating to something else that part of whats missing, the only that that has any real value is the main page news listings.

    I didn't bother to enter the forum after the above I'll admit, since without any notice that maybe its being updated I can only assume that there is no longer interest in it as there isn't even anything there to really review as the preview image would suggest.

    Although I like the fact that the then image called to you to come to it, you didn't have to be an asshat and continue reviewing when you saw[/b] that it was in the update process. There are some pages that I can't update - and you can refer to this as the main antagonist here.

    Your review was just an illicit ramble that you just wanted points off of.

    Home / Menu: What attracted me to review your site was the site name, interesting enough to pull crazy people like me in who like mystery and the strange. Flawed legacy kind of sounds like horror and mystery so I’m here and I have to say, very nice site design, not sure what that top left hand corner vector is doing for you but it looks really out of place. The design looks like a circle or carnival sign back up with steel curtains. Very nice effect, you’ve got my attention now don’t lose it! First thing I notice is that yellow gold vector on the top, next I see your entire layout content is misaligned which is a bad sign. The menu up top and the side one is the same, you don’t have to repeat it twice. Best to remove the top one text links and replace them with the side images, that’s very tacky, to have images linked like that to pages, for a scary site, this isn’t helping. If you make the links RED and hover BLACK, that would really look nice and clever! As for the latest editions you have, those could easily be placed in the content on your entries; you don’t have to do them separately like that. They crowd the page and turn your scary design into a jesting show. The contract with your font color and background is good, but the size is small to read on my screen. Also since it’s misaligned, kind of makes me wonder if you deserve a good score or bad one. I also like the bottom image and the copyrights.

    Layouts: you have two layouts that look almost identical with just a few color changes, make different types of layouts, and don’t limit yourself to the same design. Since I really like both your layouts and their quality, I won’t say anything more because I don’t have anything else to comment on here.

    Avatars: 4 avatars, good quality, nice colors, neat effects!

    Wallpapers: very impressive collection of wallpapers, this might be your high point, maybe you should turn your site into a wallpaper collection, seems you’re most talented in this category of graphics.

    Signatures: your signatures are kind of low on quality or creativity, but still pretty good.
    ToS: your terms are all good and well, but instead of centering them, try listing them all to the left. That’ll look more organized and learned up.

    Copyrights: you have….tons…tons of copyrights!!! Don’t have any words for this.

    Other: Why would I want to register for cutenews? Alright I think your sites pretty average, you could add a ABOUT page where you can mention some stuff about your site and yourself. Because it seems like the person that made this site doesn’t exist. So I feel kind of strange here. You don’t have a contact page which is really strange. Or a credits page. Its find not to have credits sometimes, but still, contact is kind of important, going on deviant art to find your email isn’t great. If you fix the alignment problem, you won’t have to hear it anymore ok silly xD

    { 1 } My first observations brought one word to mine - 'BOOM'. The bright white text against the black background didn't contrast. May i suggest a light Grey instead? It startles your eyes as you move down the page having to go from looking at a dark background to a bright text. Changing to Grey will make it easier to contrast and it will still look white-ish because its bright compared to the background.

    { 2 } My second observation was the layout. I love it! I am a huge fan of dark colours,the layout banner appealed to me streight away. I like how it fades down away from the navigation, for the content, then re-appears at the bottom for your copyright / disclaimer. I also like how its centered with the rounded border, although it would look neater if the border was sharper.

    { 3 } Then, my eyes wandered over to the navigation bar. Personally, i would have put it a little further down, to reveal more of the amazing picture / banner. The background of the navigation bar is HUGE, considering you have 4 links. When i hover over them i get two or three (four at the most) sub-links. This confused me. Perhaps extend the amount of 'main links' there are on the navigation bar and loosing the little drop-downs. If necessary, have main links opening to pages underneath with a sub-menu. If so, add more pages. More is less. It would be lovely to see more content.

    ( 4 ) Talking of links, (while we were on the subject of the navigation bar), PLEASE do something about those broken links coming off the 'request' menu. They either don't exist, in which case delete them until they do, or they don't work, which means you should fix them. It's a waste of time luring your visitors to expect to be able to request affiliation or design, and find a broken link, wasting three seconds (or more) or their life trying to get back.

    ( 5 ) I like the little extra touches - the graphic headings at the tops of the pages and the sidebar with 'latest additions'. I didn't like the fact that my computer is super-fast, but your layout, wallpapers, avatars and signature previews took forever to load. I made, and drank a whole cup of coffee before discovering some fascinating graphics. I clicked to download one of your wallpapers and after about 5 minutes it showed me a plain white page with an image. If you are going to distribute things this way, at least have it open in a new window, so we don't have to leave your site. Some people might take this as an opportunity to completely leave the site.

    [ 6 ] The 'reviews' page opened in a new window. This put me off, so i didn't bother looking at it. When clicking on 'About' (in the 'site' sub menu) i was most expecting to find detains about the site, not the person who owns it. Make that picture smaller for a start, it's bunching up the text in one corner. I'm a depressingly morbid Gothic person, but not everybody is like me. Most people would feel their head explode reading your biography. Too deep, too emotional. Keep it simple and include relevant details. Nobody want's to know about your mom in labor, it happens to everybody. Tell us what makes you unique.

    { 7 } So, after five minutes of being on your page, i fall asleep. I found Another broken link, and theres no contact form?! Your graphics don't bother me. There's no intersting blog and no visitor interaction what so ever. -Yawn.- Besides that, I think the site has lots of potential. Keep up the work x

    For starters, you put the site in the wrong category :) It should be in Graphics.

    The site design is nice. A little bit mysterious, with those eyes in the background of the header. I like the textured stripe detail in the header, it adds a little something.

    Because I browse with JavaScript disabled, your navigation is useless to me until I've whitelisted your domain. There are two core problems with this: 1) you don't make a note of the JavaScript reliance and so if I'd not viewed your source, I'd have assumed the rest of your site was under construction; and 2) Googlebot and other SE robots don't have/index JavaScript, so if you want this page to show up in the search engine you need to find a more appropriate method of constructing your drop-downs (I recommend Sons of Suckerfish)

    I immediately assumed the Latest Additions on the left would be linked to the place where I could download them; I probably won't be the only one and so to avoid confusing visitors I suggest you link the images as appropriate.

    The deviantart link under Home is really nothing to do with Home and may be better placed in the footer. Likewise, 'Site' is normally the word used for pages about the website. Perhaps move all of the content under a link called 'Works' (or something similar), and then Site Reviews and Affiliates under 'Site'. The only exception would be if you plan on turning Site Reviews in to an area where others could receive reviews, in which case that would be better placed with the rest of the content.

    Under Layouts, your second preview is sat to the right of the first instead of directly underneath it. If you were using CSS floats instead of the presentational "align" attribute, you'd be able to use "clear" to clear the alignment which would solve this problem. I would personally and professionally recommend using neither tables nor iframes to mark up the layouts. iframes in particular, should be avoided.

    Because you're using the full-size images on your Wallpapers page, it takes quite a while to load even with 6 downloads available. I don't have a great Internet connection and I'm not the only one; furthermore, my bandwidth is capped and I don't want to waste it on wallpapers I may not even wish to download. You should use suitably sized thumbnails to preview the Wallpapers.

    I guess I don't really understand the Signatures? They look just like images to me.

    I have no idea why your About Me page is written in the 3rd person, especially as the link says "About Me" and not "About [name]". On top of this, the rather graphic introduction was not really necessary. Quite frankly, I don't need the mental imagery of your mother's coochie with your head popping out, you know? I'm sure we're all aware of how babies are born. Likewise, your talk of suicide as a method by which to regain friends cries to me emotional blackmail. However, if that's the image you wish to portray I guess it's your prerogative.

    The site you credit for your images clearly states in the Terms of Use:

    You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer [...]

    So, you need to find a different source for your images or risk being served with a cease and desist.

    Your coding is littered with errors. For starters, your doctype is mixing an ancient HTML 3.2 declaration with an XHTML dtd URL. Given that your code is most like HTML rather than XHTML, I'd suggest the following doctype:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

    Your JavaScript chunks need language="javascript" removing, but then if you follow my advice about the Suckerfish CSS that won't be an issue anyway. You also need to take the comments code from off the closing head and opening body tags.

    You need to drop the tables in favour of tableless layouts and start nesting your tags properly (you've got a h3, which is a block level element, inside a p and a center which are also block level.)

    For some reason, you've got color="#FFFFFF" in a few of your sidebar images; images can't have a colour, and it's a presentational attribute anyway. Likewise, you're closing them with /> which is XHTML and we've already established that you're better off with plain ol' HTML.

    Although your CSS has no errors and thus validates, there are some warnings about font names with spaces which should be quoted, as that's an easy fix it shouldn't take you too long. As well as the unquoted fonts, you may wish to look in to compressing your CSS properties. Remove the border detail on .credit (as it's set to 0 anyway) and then squash styling like this:

    border-top: 1px solid #0A5170;
    border-right: 1px solid #0A5170;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #0A5170;
    border-left: 1px solid #0A5170;

    down to: border: 1px solid #0A5170

    Aside from that, the CSS is good.

    Your site is fairly small, although that's not necessarily a reflection on you. I understand that adding content can be a length process. However, the quality of your code does not reflect the smooth/tidy appearance of the layout and it's letting your site down.

    (I started your review this morning, so if I covered something already mentioned in another review you'll have to excuse me - I couldn't be bothered to go through and weed out duplicate advice.)

    Layout

    The layout is ok, but why did you put the About, Affiliates and Requests links at the bottom of your layout? You should move those up to the top navigation as they are just as important as the other links.

    Why the blue background if I may ask...It would look so much nicer if it were black or maybe even a dark blue faded into black. Could even make the top fade down into black with some kind of space type scene, dark blue and purple clouds or even an orange-ish type cloud with stars. If that made sense. It's just a thought, I think it would look kind of neat. As it is the type of blue you are using now clashes badly with your header image and makes your site look incomplete, like you didn't know what else to do with it and so didn't finish.

    As for the header image itself, it looks ok, but you are using copyrighted images in it. This is a big no no for portfolio sites, well for pretty much any site really. Since this is supposedly your portfolio you should try to get your own works up there, not altered works of others. As I see it so far this is more of a fan site for games than a real portfolio.

    I like the latest editions thing that you have. Nice thing to add. The colors, size of your font and all that are good, I have no complaints there.

    I'm taking a peak at your code now, I will say right now I am not a fan of Dynamic Drive scripts, or java scripts for that matter. What happened to your head and body tags? Oh wait I found them they are in... arrows? Ok...
    Also I would suggest dropping your tables and going for a div layout. Only use tables if you absolutely have to. I would drop the dynamic drive navigation script. I think there is a better code to use for that, BUT all in all I am not a big fan of that type of navigation so I would suggest just going for a css nav and have a hover over background or something for those links and break up your content page by page. Also if you are going to post an off site link, do NOT put it in your navigation. You don't want people just randomly leaving your site while in mid browse.

    Running your site through the W3C Validator I come up with 31 errors and 21 warnings. I would suggest you check these out.

    Content

    The first section well the dA link is unneeded in your nav as I have already stated. News is just the home page and reviews...why are there site reviews on this portfolio? Are you reviewing sites or these reviews of your site?

    Layouts, or should say layout, it looks ok, though I don't know why the background cuts off on the left side of the page, you should try to fix that. And why isn't the most recent one in there?

    I would remove the most recent from the other pages you have too by the way. Just leave that as a feature on the front page.

    Avatars... it shows promise but I have nothing really to go by with just one avatar. Wallpapers look pretty nice, you got a few to select from. Though, why are there no 800x600 and 1024x768? Those are the two most popular and common screen resolutions out there.Signatures ok ok I guess, but it doesn't look like you did more than crop the photo and add a border.

    Why do you link your affies in the nav? why don't you just make a separate page for links? It would be a lot better.

    Your about page...what I gleaned from all that babbling is basically you are a young, angsty person who has a serious case of grudge against humanity for whatever reason. You tell nothing of your real self here, other than this vague time line which most of it didn't make much sense. You faked suicide just to get appreciation? What? I don't understand most of this and am not going to try.
    Your about page, true it can contain anything you darn well please, but I would highly suggest a re-write. Past about your personality, your dreams and aspirations for the future, opinions, etc. You can give a record of your life to this date but honestly unless you travel the world and see tons of new things it's very boring to read about.

    It would be nice to see an about section on the site itself too.

    Affiliate... it's just a link to your e-mail, I would make this a page with a contact form. Requests...same link...you don't even need that. You should put requests up with all your other image works and give your policy on that page and a contact form.

    Overall

    I didn't have much to really review...you should avoid posting up pages that are full of nothing. The organization of your site is lacking, you should group all your links together.
    You are pretty good with graphics, I encourage you to keep at it. I would not call this a portfolio site, it's more of a fan site for graphics of different games. If you intend to use this as a portfolio you should really avoid copyrighted images at all cost. The only time it is ok to use a copyrighted character in a portfolio is when you have actually drawn it or designed it or animated it. Otherwise you could get into trouble for using them to promote yourself.
    Your design isn't bad but you need to work on it a bit, color wise and clean up your coding some. You have a decent grasp on html so it shouldn't be hard for you at all.
    Work on your content, you need a lot more. I think I would have suggested keeping your site on a hiatus until you had more content.

    tuomas's Response:

    I can't use a gradient because of the way my coding utilizes certain images. If I made a gradient for the background, I would have to use the background on the layout itself as transparent so the background wouldn't mess up. I appreciate the idea, I would love to use it - but I can't because of the way my coding is.
