It's a great thing for other sites.A lot of people appreciate it. Nothing's wrong with it as far as I can see. Except making the messaging be able to be more characters. Other than that, awesome to the extreme! :D

Well, when I first looked at the layout, I though that it was sort of, snoring boring DX The layout doesn't really amaze me too much, I wish there was a little more SHA ZAM! Or something :P The font is simple, maybe try making your own font, check out yourfonts.com to make your own fonts ^^
The coding is pretty much, well PERFECT! I went on w3.org, and you passes, better then I ever would @_@ Not much too say about the coding, but you have mad skilletz at it :P
Organization on here is number one! Easy to navigate around, and I think this is just me, but it took me a week to figure out how to delete my site on here, as soon as I messeged Jem, I figure out how to... maybe a little more noticible? :/ Nothing much to change about anything.
Another heads up about the layout, maybe on a world wide (or close to world wide) holiday comes up, change the layout a bit, for a some fun, not quite mandatory, but would be pretty cool.
Overal, rev.iew.me is a fun, terrific place to review, and be reviewed! Keep up the good work, and I am really glad that you are very active, and actually post updates. Some people don't even have their visitors aware of what they updated, don't change a thing about yourself. Great coder, owner, etc, etc :3
...sorry if I mispelled anything X3

I have just one small suggestion: when I was adding my website, the step to submit a screenshot caused a little bit of confusion for me. At first I manually cropped and resize an image, but this turned out pixelated and weird-looking after uploading; I realised that we're supposed to upload a full-screen image on my second try. I think instructions could be provided on the add-your-site page to clarify what needs to be uploaded, along with an explanation that the image is automatically edited.
Overall this is a brilliant website!
UPDATED 15 Feb 09:
Also, I've just found out that changing the screenshot doesn't work very well... When I tried the page just reloaded with the old image still displaying. Maybe I'm doing something wrong :PUsing Firefox on Windows | Report This?

English isn't my first language so I hope you won't kill me but anyway on to the review.First impression:
I love the colors, its easy to navigate and its easy to find stuff in general. Who doesn't love mint-blue and grayscal? The domain name is really spiffy too. =)
Unlike most community sites it has no ads, plus there are no extra junks. Its really simple and all contents are kept minimum. Like all your sites!Coding:
I don't think I even have a right to review your codes. xD
I'm still learning SEO and I don't know if your site is actually aimed for higher web ranks but I can't find a h1 tag which should be there first but instead it beggins with a h5 tag which is incorrect according to w3.org. I do see a h2 but its in the middle and the order is a bit odd. I know your site is not for business obviously and I know SEO isn't that oh-so important in that case and it maybe done on purpose but it really stuck in my head. xD
Here's some article/posts from w3.org and webmasterworld.com:
http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/Use_h1_for_Title.html
http://www.webmasterworld.com/html/3721297.htm
I hope you don't mind me saying this, especially if its done for a reason. ;) Your CSS is gorgeously done, and your scripts are amazing as well. =) You're site is gorgeous like everyone saids and I thought I say something other than a rushes of compliments. About the h1 tag its just my opinion so can ignore me. xDGraphics:
Its simple and original, you didn't use any resourses I think so its made by you 100%. Great work on them!Navigatpn:
The way you located stuff is perfect. Main links like to navigate reviews at the top, and site-related contents at the bottom.Overall:
This is the first review site I thought I wanted to join in. When I found this site it made me want to sign up straight away! Thanks for creating this site Jem! :)Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

You're exactly right about the header tags :) When Jacky handed the design over to me I didn't have time to correct them and I guess I just forgot!
I've juggled the headers about a little now so they should make more sense.

on 6th Jan 2009 and said:Seeing as how I recently joined, I cannot give an accurate assessment of what I think of the site yet; however, from what I've been exposed to so far, this is superior to yoursite.nu in terms of design and thought.
Usability Issues
- The live update is lagging the speed in which my typing is being reflected on the screen. It's not a serious lag, but definitely enough to be noticed. While it's a cool feature, I wish it's something that I am able to turn off via Settings. (It should be noted, that if the preview is outside of my viewing area, I don't experience the lag.)
- For someone who writes lengthly reviews, the textarea is insufficient in dimensions. I cannot comfortably write in it. Thankfully, Chrome allows me to adjust it. It's not purely a personal preference. From a psychological perspective, a larger writing area encourages a lengthly response; think of a written test. If a student sees that a page is left blank for the answer, they tend to think the correct answer will take up as much space. (That's not to say, that a good review needs to be long, but a solid argument tends to be of a certain length.) From a aesthetic point of view, it simply looks better when the width of the textarea aligns with the right end of each review. This actually applies across all forms in the site.
- This is a lengthly page. Considering breaking it up into pages. Alternatively, a "Back to Top" link beside each review, and at the bottom of the page to complement the "Jump to Review Form" link at the top.
- The little icons next to each heading in the listings are annoyingly small making them hard to click on. It doesn't hurt, and also serves as visual enforcement to have the little graphics but by convention, file systems are sorted ascending/descending by clicking on the column header.
- Pages. It's infinitely more helpful if we could click on the pages other than the adjacent page, and the first/last page. (For example, if I'm on page 4, the only pages I can access is the first page, page 3, 5, or the last page.) The current system is an improvement from the "First/Next/Previous/Last" paging system in that it give the users an indication of how many pages there are, but it doesn't take full advantage of the numerical system. It doesn't allow the user to jump to a specific page, or access a page in the middle without having to click through everything. There's also the drawback of clicking a small active area--a number rather than a word.
Aesthetics Issues
- On the topic of aesthetics, the format buttons are beside the rating dropbox, but not on the same line. Normally, I'd look into what the issue is, but I think you're more than capable of finding out. It's also under the wrong heading--or label in this case. It makes sense to put the toolbar under "Review" as opposed to "Rating".
- The container that holds the Site Information is too busy. While I love the gradient/wave/Vista theme, it's a tad busy where the waves intersects, and distracts from the text that it's a backdrop to. Intuition tells me that a white transparent/gradient background might give alleviate the issue. The contrast might also add a nice touch.
- Going on personal preference, I'd like the overall width to be bigger. I do believe the 800-resolution is dying, but to maximize the audience, a fluid layout be more compromising to the majority of us with bigger resolutions. But since there's evidence to support a certain width helps readability, I'd opt for max-width+fluidity.
- To be consistent with the rest of the pages, when a user is on a "review" page, "Website" should be the active link on the main navigation since it's the parent. Visual reinforcement of where I am. Similarly with a "user" page which is a child of "Members".
---------------------
Again, I've only been exposed to the site for about an hour since this is merely based on first impressions.

UPDATED 07 Nov 08:
Oh crap, I didn't mean to give it one star! I forgot to change it. :( Is there a way it can be default without a rating, just in case people forget like I did. If they try to submit it will be like, "FOOL! You didn't choose a star rating!" -.-* Sorry!UPDATED 08 Nov 08:
omg, just thought of something else! It's not a big deal but it would be kind of cool. I don't know if anyone else would like it but what about if we received a message (either here or e-mail, I dunno) when someone responds to a review we gave? I would like to see what people say back at me. :3UPDATED 14 Nov 08:
Hmm... whilst writing Vera's review, I tried using the proper converted code to display HTML (I just used Tutorialtastic's code converter because I MIGHT be a lazy arse...!) and it showed up just fine in the live preview but after I submitted it, the brackets and the text within disappeared. Is this counted in the no HTML rule? I've been using { } to show what I mean.UPDATED 14 Nov 08:
Err, let me rephrase that because it made me sound like a complete idiot. I know that we can use the bbcode for displaying code, what I meant was when I was just trying to talk about one, tiny li tag. I didn't want to have to have a big code box for one 4 character tag.So really I just thought that was allowed. ^.^* Sorry for being annoying!

The layout is pretty nice, simple, but functional. One of my few complaints is that the Reviews page could be organized better, or at least say how its organized. If its organized by date, I don't think thats very useful. It could at least be organized by rater, rating, or the site that is reviewed. One thing that I would find helpful is if I could locate the highest rated sites without having to randomly stumble upon them. If I could I'd be able to figure out what makes them all so amazing and potentially improve my own site.
Also, I think the "Add Your Site" link on the menu is out of place...It would probably fit better under a user's "Edit:" menu.
I also think that home should be furthest left. Thats were I tend to assume home buttons generically are, and its a little it disorienting whenever I reach for "Websites" by accident. Finally, I think it would be great if on people's profiles they could have a mini portfolio of three or so of their best works. I guess this might not be very useful to bloggers, but who knows...I think it'd be neat.

First off, I really wished we had a search function. Sometimes I want to search for a certain member or a certain website but have to dig through a bunch of websites to look for it. It's nice that we can view different sites by category when we're logged in, but a search function would be nice too. The second thing is that the vista like background (the lines in the teal background) doesn't show up on IE for some reason. It's just a plain teal box. It's not really a big issue but I just think it's strange. Anyway, other then that, I love this layout and this website. Great work!

When I first found out about this site it was through one of my parnters...she wanted people to get her more points for reffering so I just joined.
I reviewed a few smaller sites...cause I wanted to have people review my site. And I didn't really look at the site much.
Once I added my site I regreted it...I got alot of rude reviews...when people join you should defienetly warn them that people may be harsh and that they need to be aware of that. Because I had no clue how cruel people where going to be. It defienetly brought down my feelings for rainbowpool-...I was sooo dumb I was considering closing rainbowpool- because I thought 'Well if people hate my site why have it?' But then I realized it really didn't matter....I ask people for their opinion and I recieved it...Its just most people are expecting a pro site.
Anyways I know that is more like a story that I just told you but anyways that is what happened to me should you should really have a warning.
Next I think the layout is cool...maybe try adding more colors though. But that might just be me...
Also you should have a way to delete an account personall. That might clutter things up if their is no possible way to delete an account. And i am sometime not going to want to get on this anymore and why have my acocunt???
Also I think you should add more ways to spend your points. Once you have plugged on the board...not many people do it so its their for awhile...and once you have added your site and added it to spotlight...your only choice is just to forget about points or to save it up for those really expensive things...
Second...I think that people should be able to delete reviews they have recieved. Because personally some of the reviews i have gotton about my site I don't want people reading! And since their is no way to get rid of them I have no choice.
But I do like the fact that you can respond to the reviews....so if someone is being rude you can just correct them...or say their wrong..
But something I also don't like is that after a certain amount of time..you loose access to editing your review...well maybe I want to add more! But i can't! So you should really fix that!
Overall I think this is a really awesome site but you should add a few rules because people are getting kinda offensive on here...but I really like this site so good job JEM! :D
And you can tell everyone loves this site since everyone has rated it 4-5 stars lol xD
Thanks! And sorry if I was to harsh!

on 15th Dec 2008 and said:First Impressions: When I first took a look at Rev.iew.Me, I straight away saw that it was a review site. The site name is relevent to the content and the index page is very informative. I love how the index page shows sites that have just been added - It means that new sites can have an opportunity to be reviewed! I love the simplicity of the layout. It's clean and fast loading. The site often runs fairly slowly, though. :(
Content: I love the points system - I don't like the idea of people being able to add their site and then do nothing in return, so making people earn points before allowing them to add their sites is a really good idea! :) I also like the Star Membership idea, but I think that there could be more rewards for being a star member (such as having a start next to the username everywhere).
I found the site a little hard to navigate at first (the only way I used to be able to find the points charter was through going to the add a site page). I soon got used to the navigation, though.
I like how you upload thumbnails of your website and it automatically resizes it for you. I also like the score boards for the referrals.
Lastly, I love the way you can list the members by username, rating, reviews and sites - ascending or descending! The same applies to the way the websites are listed.
The only bad thing that I can say about this site is that there's not a whole lot to do. I know that it's just a review site and so there's not going to be much more to it than reviews, but I feel that there could be more ways for users to interact with each other and whatnot. I don't really know how this could be made possible, though!
Overall: This is the best (and one of the few) review sites that I've seen. It's a lot easier to use and a lot fairer to members than most review sites. I can see it going a long way!
Suggestions: I definitely think that star members should be able to get more. Maybe have a star members site list, or something, that lists all of the star members' sites only. It would be cool to have an option for that in the members and websites list.
I think that you should be able to rate sites on more than just an overall star rating. It would be good to have a few different star rating scales. Such as one for overall rating, one for site purpose, usefulness, interest level, etc.
Lastly, I think that you should be able to reply to comments that people leave on your reviews - People are sometimes really rude in comments, or don't understand what you mean and is occasionally necessary to respond to someone's response on your review!

I have wanted to start a review section of my website for the longest time, but I knew how much work it took and I knew I didn't want to go through all of that. Rev.iew.me is easy to use and educates me on how to handle my website. A review doesn't help only the website its about.
I love the layout. It's so simple and the colors work so well together. I love the rounded buttons and overall simplicity of it. The only thing I'd change is the background image on web site section bar thing at the top. It doesn't match the rest of the layout as well as it could, and its vista-ish looking. I love the footer. I love the creative name, although before I bookmarked it I kept getting confused when I couldn't find it from re.view.me.
I love the idea of points. It's the only way to get people to review other people's websites, I think. The more reviews you give, the more you get. The more publicity you get with the plugs and whatnot. Anyone can give their opinion on anyone else's website without having to make a review site. Anyone can have their website reviewed without waiting weeks just for one opinion. Rev.iew.me is just so convenient.
I just sent my first message on this website, and though the drop down list of users works well for now, it will be harder to use when Rev.iew.me gets even bigger. Maybe a search for users would be easier, I'm not sure.
I guess this wasn't much of a review, but I've only got good things to say about rev.iew.me and that doesn't make for constructive criticism. Keep it up. I can tell this is going to get really big over time.

I also the fact, that this site isn't ove complicated to use, you don't have to fight your way through the links to find what you want.

The concept is really good as well, I don't see how this can die a death like other review communities as people have to review to get reviewed. Also, there's no pressure on just a few people instead it's a group effort. The code behind this must be interesting, I'm trying to plan out the structure in my head, definitely amazing work.
I love the design, the colours work really well together, it's very easy on the eyes yet still eye catching enough to make you want to visit often. The main point of this review is to say that I noticed while browsing through other pages that you can sort the added websites by category. However, this option doesn't appear on the website page, you can order them by rating and review but not trim them down on there, you have to go to Terms of Use to get it. I think that's the only sticking point, well and the fact that the preview of the review doesn't display the formatting correctly but someone else has already mentioned that.
All together very impressive. To put together a site like this and have so few teething problems shows an incredible attention to detail. Great job!

It also allowed us (owners if we are one) to know what to do with our sites or simply improve the quality of the site. It brings good new ideas and the originality/inspiration to us.
Layout/Design-- I love the design! The colors of this layout is very soothing , nice and makes me want to browse the site and join it of course. It is unique.
Signing up process- When you sign up for an account, it is easy to follow. It doesn't take too long which is good. :)
When revewing sites-- I love how we get to choose on sites we want to review on or give help. However, sometimes when reviewing and you want to use the buttons above, you can use it fine but when you want to close it, it does close. Maybe you could add a little 'chat' thingy.... like, when people are online and stuff, they can chat with each other and discuss things about other sites - if you catch my drift, haha. And, also, can you make it easier to navigate the "users" and reviews page? Like, in categoric terms? I know "categoric" is not a word but haha, you know what I mean. It is a great idea (it's not the first I realize, but it's definitely unique!). Earning & Spending points is a brilliant concept. It just makes you want to review!
It's a great place to get feedback and tips on how to make your site the best it can be.
I'm so glad this site was created (and that I joined it). It's showing me a whole bunch of amazing sites that I had no idea existed (to a point).
I can see it's popularity is going to keep going up, and I hope it becomes even more successful.

As for the look of the site, it's ace! Not short of creativity, and simple. Simplicity of course if my favorite style and this is by far, the perfect example of simple but still very appealing.
I like the fact that you can't change your review. I'm the type who believes in your first insticts are what you truly mean. If you say something about a site, going back to change it won't deter the fact that you already said it. So people.. just say what you mean the first time, that's why when you review, do it meticulously.

I love the fact that it's ad-free too, although I wouldn't at all be bothered if ads came in at sometime in the future (to assist with costs, etc.), as long as they weren't pop-up and were integrated with the look of the site.
Another thing I would probably like to see is a search feature - I don't think I've seen one so far (although I've only been a member for a couple of days at the moment). It would be nice to be able to search for a site or a member, especially as the site grows larger.
Other than that, I can't really think of anything to fault the site - I am very happy with my experience so far: everything is easy to find and use. Nice work :)Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

- Perhaps a forummy/Messageboardy type thing. It'd be nice to get to know the community around here, but somehow I think the tagboard might be a little bit tricky to do so.
- Some kind of favourites list
- A user watchlist type thing so you can be notified of any updates from a specific user, such as a change in designs? That being said, perhaps a way of notifying the community that something on said site has changed, for instance, a page which lists recently edited sites? I'm probably not making much sense.
- I've noticed that updates to replies to reviews override the original reply all together. Would it be possible to have updates to replies ADDED to the original reply, rather than replacing it?I'm bound to have more suggestions, so i'll keep thinking. Overall, the site is working wonderfully. :)

The theme looks fantastic. The colors are lovely together, and the showcase section (I really don't know what to call it so I just stole Vasili's words for it :3) is really awesome. I especially love the whooshy background of it.
The one problem I have is the inability to edit a review you've given. I can't stand publishing anything with typos, especially a review written to help someone. If I make a terrible typo and the reviewee can't understand what I'm trying to say, the message can't get across. Therefore, I think it would be beneficial to allow reviewers the ability to edit the reviews they give.
Using MSIE on Windows | Report This?
Jem's Response:
Thanks for the feedback :) One of the main problems with yoursite.nu was that people would go back and edit their reviews to say something completely different if they didn't like the webmaster, or the webmaster's response. Adding review changes as an 'update' rather than replacing the review was the best way I could think of to combat this.

Hopefully with rev.iew.me we won't be getting these "half-arsed" reviews from people who don't even know the basic concepts of design (which includes organization and content). I also wish that the members here won't have to throw hissy fits to those who give them a bad review (as long as they give pointers on how to improve?). Wishful thinking, I know.

I know you probably don't want to copy YS.nu, but I think it'd be cool if our avatars showed up beside of our reviews.
I like the idea of the point system so that members have to contribute to the site before adding their own site to the database. However, some people may end up leaving half-arsed reviews just to be able to add their site.

on 7th Nov 2008 and said:Man, if you could have somehow taken the screenshot of this particular review page, then that would've been like that mirror affect, looking into the site infinitely... very trippy.
I think this is an awesome idea for a review site because of the points system, and because it's a community. Tying the two ideas together is really great, because it eliminates the problem of one person or a few people running a review site and getting overwhelmed, and the points provide incentive to actually review other sites and not be a moocher. It's great that the reviewers are the reviewees here, and you have to be a reviewer to be a reviewee because of the points required for adding a site. If you come up with even more ways to use points, I think it'd be great, because I can foresee piling up the points since I really only have the one site and I don't know that I'll use the plugboard that much.
I've found a few nitpicks around here and there, which you certainly know about since I've been messaging you like crazy. :) I'm tickled to see that you've been addressing them so quickly, and addressing them at all (you're not just shrugging me off as being too demanding, I mean).
I'm excited that my site has received two reviews so far, and they've been of pretty good length. The fact that the number of words per review directly corresponds to the number of points you receive is a good idea. Hopefully no one manipulates the system by pasting Shakespeare into their reviews, but I suppose you could moderate that if that were the case.
One big suggestion would be to incorporate more community involvement. Maybe this could be done by letting other members rate reviews. Like I see Person A has reviewed Person B's site, and Person A did a crappy job, pasting Shakespeare and misspelling words and making ad hominem attacks, etc. Then I could rate (just a little out-of-5-stars AJAX thing, so it's convenient, like on I Can Has Cheezburger) that review with a low score. The ratings that a person's reviews get could affect that person's rating (I saw that each user apparently has a rating--does this currently come from the number of reviews they've done?), like karma on Slashdot kind of.
I'm so spiffed by the idea of another web design community, especially one that revolves around site reviews because I loves them so much. :)
I don't know if there's a way currently, but it'd be nice if we could view what all sites don't have any reviews. Just making sites easily searchable/sortable by a number of different criteria would be great.
UPDATED 07 Nov 08:
Testing something here by updating my review after having posted it: if I leave Rating on SELECT, will it leave it alone in the review I've already posted?Note: I just tried to submit with SELECT as the Rating, and I got this message: "Invalid rating, must be 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 only." Maybe have it check for a valid rating only if it's a new review, and not an update/addendum.
One suggestion I forgot: after we've posted a review, we land on a page with a link to take us back to the review. Could that page redirect to the review after a few seconds, like forums do after you post?
UPDATED 07 Nov 08:
Two more suggestions! :) I just got 1 point for that addendum I posted--should that happen? It seems like I could potentially just rack up the points for postingUPDATED 07 Nov 08:
Ha HA, another update! Right, so I had a less-than sign in my previous update, and that apparently was left as a less-than sign. Convert odd characters to ASCII codes? Also, it doesn't say, but can we use HTML/BBCode/some kind of formatting in reviews? The ability to do blockquotes, links, and lists would be helpful at least.
Using Firefox on Mac | Report This?
Jem's Response:
Thanks Sarah, I do appreciate the feedback you've been giving me :)
The problem I had with being able to rate a user - or a review - directly, is that a lot of people give out 1 star just because they didn't like the review (it wasn't flattering enough for example). I don't want to get into a battle of having to point out to people that a negative review doesn't mean the person sucks. Anyway, I definitely want to improve the user rating system so it is something to bear in mind.
If you click the headers of the tables on the members/sites/reviews pages you'll be able to sort by those fields (although only one way at the moment)
Will look in to these suggestions...
Points are given for amendments that also pass the word count barrier/s.
Hmm, entities should be converted.. I'll check that. BBcode is enabled, it does mention it in the help but I need to add a brief mention on page here.

on 7th Nov 2008 and said:rev.iew.me, what can I say about thee? Well, I can say a lot; most of them would be good things. Ever since Jem first said that she was going to open up rev.iew.me, I had been very excited. I was (and still "am") a member of YS.nu, but didn't really participate in it that much. I might have written a review or two, but the entire website gave off a negative aura so I never used it.
Rev.iew.me on the other hand has a wonderful layout that uses great colors! The showcase section is probably one of my favorite parts of this layout. The flowing colors where the website/user information is displayed creates a lovely background while not taking away from the information. The semi-transparent box inside the showcase section, on the site page, gives a nice separation from the site image, name and rating.
When you search for a member or site on the members or sites pages, the page is very well organized. The table headers allow you to sort the items by that column. The table also gives great visual separation from one row to the next. For me, I find this is very hard to do and make a table look good.
There a couple of reasons why rev.iew.me makes me want to stay here for hours (and I do sometimes). The point system; probably one of the greatest ideas that Jem could have thought of since BellaBook. Without this feature, people would just submit their sites here and just let people review them in return for nothing. Before you can add your site or plug it, you must have points. You receive these points by writing reviews. When you have enough of these points, then you can add your site or plug it.
Another reason why rev.iew.me is ultimately better than YS.nu is because rev.iew.me doesn't have any ads that disrupt the flow of things. I don't see why people would click on an ad when they're too lazy to even write a review.
If you're looking for something to tie up most of your time and like to write reviews or get reviewed, you need to join! :D
