Frisby gave it

on 7th Mar 2009 and said:Hello, Jessica, I'm Frisby.
First Impression--
Oo, this layout looks very nifty. It looks like the background is papery and the flowers, vegetation and other elements of the layout look good. I would say that someone with a very large monitor might find the empty space at the right unattractive.
Also, the title isn't very defined...I suppose it's transparency goes along with the notebook's, but I find the notebook being transparent a bit strange. Rather surreal, you know? If that's what you're going for, well, go for it because it looks pretty good as it is.
Also, the left and right boxes seem cramped together, especially with the scrollbars. The bold color seems a bit bright too, and the text color doesn't come from any part of the layout, so it doesn't match as well as it could.I didn't notice the navigation at the bottom at first, but once I found it, I had to admit, its very cool. However, some of the links like packages are a bit cryptic. I need to click on the link to understand what you mean by packages, and I'm still not sure what the difference between a package and a request is.
Also, is there a link back to the homepage? If there isn't you probably should add one.
Portfolio
I think there's more stuff than necessary here--Portfolios should be one or two examples the very best of your work, maybe for each section since you're doing it that way. Maybe you should slim the portfolio down a little, since I doubt most people will view every single thing if you have so many...
I do like your work so far though. Nice job!Packages
As I mentioned, you don't make it clear what a package is. I guess its like a commission, but you should state that up front.
You should mention some way for your viewers to give you these commissions like you have in the requests section.Request
I just noticed that without hovering there's no difference between regular text and a link. Maybe you could make links khaki or some other color.
Anyhow...This section looks fine, except for the fact that you're inferring that the reader knows the request form is for layouts which didn't occur to me until I got to the extra things part of the form.Reviews
I don't see anything worth changing here, 'cept if you can the size of the field titles. They're nearly as big as the headers.Content
Here we go, the good stuff.
-pokes rules heading-
You seem to have a lot of rules all over the site. Consolidation them into one page might clean things up a little.
Moving on to the description and links, it seems that everything is packed in together and a bit of spacing would definitely do some good.-Premades
D: There's only one? Well, this layout looks awesome, so I'd love to see more joining it on its lonesome page.-Icons
Initially I wasn't sure what you wanted me to do. You should add a short blurb saying "Click on the title to view the icon series" or something like that. Again, space it out!
Most of the icons are very well-made. However a bunch of the Star and Cole ones are the same, and they could use some embellishing.-Psd's
Looks like you 'cut' these out very well and the pictures themself are nifty. I'd use them if I liked celebs. One note--PSD stands for Photoshop Document. Do you mean to call then png's?-Signs
The first ones are a little boring, but okay. You should try adding borders. At least to me, banners without borders don't seem complete.-Textures
Looks like you have some useful ones. Again, I'd use them, but I like being self-sufficient and making everything myself. I'd like to see some more variety here.-Brushes
They don't seem extremely useful...The second one especially--I only see one brush used in the preview.-Scans
Gah! When they load they're popping up all over the place and moving eachother. Upon looking at a few I see that they're pretty useful. I would question the legalness of using them, but I don't really know about that.-Color themes
Useful I guess, if I was looking for ideas for a layout, but not extremely so...Maybe if you wrote the hexadecimal names for the colors that'd be more visitor friendly.xD This is getting long, so I'll cut it short.
I like you're site and I don't see too many things you could improve with. So good luck with it!Using Safari on Mac | Report This?

Thank you for the review! No I meant PSD's because they are photoshop documents they open up in photoshop.

on 5th Mar 2009 and said:The layout is nice, but it would be so much nicer centered. I like the brown and green theme thing you got going on. The plant looks good and I like your navigation. It's not mystery meat, it's not scattered but it's not typical either. Though in my opinion I think it would be nicer to have the navigation still at the top of the page, still keep it in kind of the jumbled type style you have going now but just up in the header.
You are using iframes which is kind of a big web design no no these days. It's bad for search engine results and they are just a pain. If you really really must have a scrolling window like that go for a scrolling div where the overflow property is set to visible and you have a certain div height and width.
I would suggest making this just strictly a columned layout. You would drop all those extra scrollbars, which do not look at all attractive in the layout. If it weren't for these, and you used flash and made some nice scroll bars in that it would be doable, but just raw html it looks bad.
If you do for the column thing remember to keep enough padding on the inside of each column so that your text does not bump into the edges. The grey text is ok, I don't quite like how it sits against that brown background, but it doesn't clash either. Your font is a bit on the small side, well the body font, I would up it to at least a 12pt.
I'm not sure... is this javascript for your menu? If so there are better ways of making your menu that do not require a javascript. You basically do something like this:
Also if you are going to be using an external stylesheet, make sure that ALL the style is out of your layout and put into it. There are many style tags and what not still left in your layout. Clean these up and your site will be easier to maintain coding wise. A great site for tutorials on such things is Tutorialtastic.co.uk I would highly recommend you checking it out.
Ok moving on to your content!
Portfolio... honestly taking a glance at the thumbnails I already know you are an amateur artist. Anyone that is looking to get into graphic design seriously will not use celebrity images and movie caps in all of their graphics. There may be one or two here and there, but not the whole gallery. Not only is this unwise it's illegal to try and sell your skills using copyrighted material.
You misspelled "Signitures" it's signatures. Also if it's a portfolio, people really aren't going to care what kind of skills you have making icons and forum sigs. They are looking for logos, covers, vectors and other stuff along that line. The only thing really portfolio material here are the layouts. Also if you are going to have a gallery it should open into either a new window or something like light box, which I see you do have light box but for whatever reason it's not working here.
Ok well moving on from that I see your "packages" page and ok you aren't trying to sell your wares so to speak. I took this site as a total portfolio site which it would be better said this is a celebrity graphic site. I should have looked harder at the category but just looking at your site I thought it was. My bad on that part.
Well the order form is ok, the rules are good clear and all that jazz. Your reviews are ok, they could be a little more in depth but not bad. I like that you have a screencap of each site on there too.
Content page is a bit cramped I would suggest making thumbnail screenshots for the different sections to break it up and make it more attractive. The visitor will be less likely to stick around on a page that is just full of text. Give them a little bit of eye candy here.
Your graphics are ok, nothing really amazing but they do look nice. It's nothing I haven't seen before but since it's a graphic site it's typical for the content.
It's nice of you to offer hosting too, I haven't seen too many domains lately that do offer it. Also nice that you have a little blip about your site there too and yourself, but I would suggest adding a little bit of an intro text to that page or a header as it runs right up to the top of your iframe.
Overall your site is ok. I do like the layout but coding issues and the iframes knock it down a notch to me. I think with a little work though it would look really awesome. Your content is ok, but not very original. Your layout idea is great but I thought the rest of your site would have more original graphics like that. I think you should shy away from so many of the copyrighted images and go more for stock and textures. Those are always things people are looking for and it will also make your site look more professional. Oh and rather than calling it a portfolio, just call it a gallery since it's not technically a portfolio site or put it as maybe "works".
Brush up on your coding, get some more original images and I think your site would really be great.UPDATED 05 Mar 09:
No what I meant was it's amateur to use movie screen grabs and celeb images in graphics on a portfolio and to post things like forum signatures and avatars in your portfolio rather than just calling it an image gallery. I think you didn't get what I was talking about. The only thing I didn't find amateurish was the fact you have layouts in there. And for some reason my browser said you had an iframe in there when I looked at your coding. O_O My browser is full of lies...?

Thank you for your review =) but I don't use iframes lol I use divs and tables . as for the portfolio those are all things I made for other people I don't think that making layouts for fan sites is armature...im not sure what you are talking about...I know many sites that there whole portfolio consists of layouts they made for other sites

on 1st Mar 2009 and said:Hello. I will be reviewing your site today. I use firefox on windows XP. I am not a very harsh reviewer, but do not take anything I say to heart. All I aim to do is to help you improve or let you know you don't need to. Let's see how you go...
First Impression: I see you've gone for a nature look. I think it looks nice, but I think the layout would look better if it were centred, because it sort of looks a bit squished up on a big monitor. Ok, the font you use for your text is tiny, please increase the size, because it hurts my eyes a bit. However, if you want to
Compatibility and Validation: Now, I'm not a freak about validation, but if your site is valid it should work for most peoples' computers. Let's see... Oh it's not, oh well. Now I don't mind four or five errors because of scripts, but you have 18 erros. Some of are understandable, for example the center tags. Center, left and right do not validate, and I suggest using divs to fix this:
Put that inbetween the head tags
<style type="text/css">
div.c1 {text-align: center}
</style>and then this in the body where you want something centered:
<div class="c1">
<p>What you want centered.</p>
</div>Other things like the "body" and "html" tags also need to be included as some browsers may not recognise your coding without them. Another easily fixed problem, is that on images you do not use the "alt" attribute, which is required. The alt attribute is the little white box with text in it to describe an image when you hover over it. Now I don't really want to be telling you how to do everything so use the the vaildator ( http://validator.w3.org/ ) if you want and if you wish to know more about coding then go to tutorialtasic ( http://www.tutorialtastic.co.uk/ ) to learn how to fix things like that. You don't have to validate, but it's a suggestion.
Portfolio: I see you have made lots of things with celebrity images. Did you take these photos of the celebrity? - If not, it's copyrigt violation. I know you put a lot of work into all of the things that feature celebrities, but I suggest you take them down. Although you have a slight problem with copyright, I can see you are very talented with graphics and I suggest you make more ;)
Packages: I see you offer things. Good, because you are talented with graphics. One slight change, Uncoded is one word not two.
Request: Aha, now I know where to get the packages. You see, in the packages, you told the visitor what he/she could get, not how. The testimonials are nice, and it's a good way to bump up your ratings if visitors know you have a good history of requests. In the rules I have found a few spelling and grammatical errors in the rules, "host and have you'r" it's either your or you're not you'r. In that case it should be "your". Another one is "graphics that Imade" I made is two words not one. And "me to but Iwon't" once again, two words not one. Overall, I think you run a good requesting area, but watch your spelling.
Reviews: You're a member of rev.iew.me so why do you put that on your site? Other than a slight error where you forgot to capitalise an I, I see no problems there.
Content: Once again you didn't capitalise an I, moving on... Your premades are non-existant. I clicked the link and it gave me a page with the layout and sidebar, but no content.
Your icons and signatures are riddled with celebrity images. So I once again have to mention it breaks copyright laws unless you took them yourself.
You have cut your PSDs very well (I can't do PSDs at all) but once again the silly copright laws have gotten in the way.
The signs don't violate copyright *hi-fives* and they are pretty good, but I do think you could put a bit more work into some of them, so they are not just a picture with a word out on it.
Yay, you can keep your textures to. They are mostly good but they are a little bit blurry, may I suggest a better camera? Or are they supposed to be like that? Either way, I could probably find a way to use them in a layout.
Your brushes are good but they only work for photoshop seven and up. That is good for photoshop users, but not so much for the Paint Shop Pro users like myself. May I suggest making image packs for those who use PSP? And maybe add a few more?
I'm guessing the scans are from magazines? Once again you could probably get in trouble with the copyrights.
The colour themes are good, but you should probably give hex codes alongside the colours themselves. Oh, the first one is a broken image, so you may have accidentally deleted it by mistake. PLease remve the broken image it looks messy otherwise.Hosting: Alright, I see you have mentioned how much space the viewers get. That is good because otherwise it could be confusing. It says in the rules that if you apply you have tp have FTP knowledge, and what about those who have not has a domain or sub-domain before? I guess I wouldn't be able to apply then. Oh another grammar error peoples' has an apostrophe (I don't think spelled that right). I can understand the rest of the rules and I think you may have missed out on one "Do not spam me if I do not accept you" because my friend host people on her domain, and that happens. I see you have to link both you and your host, to be hosted. Why? Does Olivia have a policy like that? If so please inform your viewers on why it is necessary.
Overall: Overall, I think you have a very nice web-site and you are very talented when it comes to graphics and you need to cut back on the celebrity images. I think you can improve very much if you fix up your spelling and coding and I look foward to coming to your site again in the near future.

Thank you so much for your review. I will definitely fix the spelling mistakes and the broken images. I'm not sure why the premade isn't showing up, because when i look at the page it's there.
As for the copyright right laws, wouldn't it be the same for other pictures. For example stock photos that are available over other websites and deviantART.

Peta gave it

on 28th Feb 2009 and said:Hi there, my name is Peta and I’ll be reviewing your website today. I’m using FF3 on Windows with a 1440x900 resolution. Also, I have absolutely no idea what part of your website you want me to review, so I’m going to assume you want it reviewed in it’s entirety. Let’s see how I go.
I understand that you were going for a particular look here, and while some parts look okay, for the most part I don’t think you’ve pulled it off. Everything looks kind of flat. Perhaps a drop shadow or something underneath your notebook area would serve to make it feel more real? And perhaps it’s not the best idea to have some of the brushes on the notebook part as well. Also, why is your blog area darker than your content area? It’s a nice way to distinguish the two but kind of unneccesary considering the sidebars and all. I think the layout would’ve worked better as a full page style, but this could just be because I don’t like excessive scrolling.
Your font is teeny tiny. You should make it at least two sizes bigger so people don’t have to bust out their magnifying glasses to read it. Oh! I just found a link! You should make your links stand out some way, maybe make them bold, give them an underline, change the colour, perhaps? Otherwise how can we tell you’re linking something? (Unless we view your source code of course)
Speaking of code, let’s take a peek and see if you validate. You have 15 errors in your CSS and 18 erros, 21 warnings in your HTML. Luckily everything displays ok (I think?) in my browser, but validation is good to ensure that everything is going to render correctly in other browsers. It also means you know what you’re doing, and that’s a good thing, right? I’ll see if there’s anything I can help you on. I see you’re styling a lot of your divs in your HTML. You could be doing this in your CSS by using class and Ids. I’m going to do as everyone does and reccommend you head over to http://www.tutorialtastic.co.uk/ for a bit of a looksee.
Now, onto your content. It took me a little while to figure out how to get there, and when I realised I was momentarily worried you had an image map. But good work on not finding a solution :) Something about them seems messy to me though, I think it’s because they go down onto a second line. Couldn’t Hosting go under Site? And likewise with the majority of the other links going under Content? I don’t see a link to an About page though. You should have one, this is your site after all and it’s the first thing I look for after arriving at someones homepage. I see you’re hiding under Site. Make a big section about you! That’s what we want.
Portfolio
Wow, you have a lot in here. Have you thought about using Lightbox to open your images? It can look a lot nicer than just going to a blank window and loading the image. You have some nice stuff. You need to stop working with celebrity images though. It’s not only the copyright issue, it’s the fact that it’s hard to tell if you actually have talent when all you do is slap brushes on a celebrity image. The layout you have up looks nice because it’s original! Maybe favorite items in your portfolio are the ones that don’t have somebody elses face on it. People get a better understanding of you from something you made yourself. Also, I’m kind of confused by the amount of different site names you have in there. Did you do some of these for other people? If so, have you thought of dividing the two sections so that people can see what you’ve made for yourself and what you’ve made for clients.
Also, signitures should be spelt signatures.Packages
I kind of don’t see why you need to huge headers saying the package name and then the description text underneath it. You don’t need to say ‘I will create...’ because since it’s your site we assume it. Maybe a link to an example of each thing (where possible) would look great. I don’t know what a slideshow layout is at all and a picture would be very handy. Also, are you charging for these? If you’ve been using celebrity images for these I certainly hope not. I also think your Request section should be listed under there. I didn’t get what I could be requesting when it was on it’s own. Also, wow! That’s a long form. And why is there all that blank space beneath it? I can see a link at the bottom of it so I’ll just blame your form provider for now.Reviews
Aha, I like how you have the request form on this page ïŠ It would be nice if you posted the reviews you’ve done. I like to read other peoples reviews (obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be on here XD).Content
Premades...there’s nothing here?
Icons and banners – They’’re nice, but they’re also copyrighted images. You should work on making some original ones.
PSD’s – again copyright images. You’ve cut them out nicely though.
Signs – Very nice, I like the beacy hiatus one. You know, I’ve never seen why people would use signs though. If I couldn’t be bothered making something I’d just put plain text on the page saying Hiatus or BRB., you know?
Textures – I like these a lot, especially the sparkly light ones. Very pretty and I think most of them would serve their purpose well.
Brushes – Nice, I think you should make some more. Those two sets are kind of similar, although I do quite like the grainy-ness of the first one. Makes me think of crayon :P
Scans – copyright images...
Colour Themes – Pretty. Your first image is broken though. Also, why doesn’t it get a nice little description on the main page like the rest of the links? :PHosting
Yay! You actually specify how much space (I am so sick of people posting ‘Enough space’). I think it’s kind of mean that if they don’t have visitors you’ll give them a warning. It takes a while to build up a visitor base. How much traffic are you talking anyway? Maybe you should state how many hits a day you want.Site.
About Jessica – I really think this should have it’s own section. It’s your site after all and people want to know about you. Put it first in your links if you add one. I really think you need more about you. Tell us more about you, we want to know!
Affiliates and apply are fairly standard. I’d prefer the two pages combined again :P
Credits – Excellent. Maybe you could list what stuff you got from which places? I hate trawling through websites trying to find the one thing I wanted.
Feedback/Suggestions – Yay, you have a form. Most people just leave it as a text link. Good job! Conclusion
One thing I really noticed while browsing your site is that you have no headers. I had to keep going back to the main page and starting all over again to figure out where I was (short memory XD). You have nice headers so use them :P I think you’ve got potential. The stuff you make looks nice, you’re just let down by celebrity images. Make some more of your own, original content and I think you’ll be well on your way to having a great website.
I'm giving your three stars because while I think what you have at the moment is good, I also consider it pretty standard fare. Find something unique that you can add and visitors will flock to your site :) Good work so far though :)Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?
