Vam gave it

on 18th Apr 2009 and said:Hey... I'm going to review your site. I'm going to focus on the style and content, maybe, if there are any, I'll point out some errors in your coding.
As a 'First Impression' I definitely get an artistic, portfolio-ish feeling. That may sound a little confusing, but you have taken a typical layout (elongated header at the top of the page) and made it unique to you, which I find pleasant.
The colours you have chosen are very nice, and work etremely well with eachother. It is good that you didn't have to force them to work with eachother. I also see that you have used some dynamic contrast in your header image, with the gradient, and the CSS. Although, the blue is not recognisable in my computer. It looks like a very dark grey. Maybe you should use a lighter blue, because the content of your site looks to be in monochrome, apart from the odd blue image, or link hover.
Your CSS is good, for the navigation works really well with the colours you have chosen. You have definitely made good use of the letter-spacing! I still have that 'artsy' feeling in mind while looking at this. Hopefully this is what you were aiming for, and you have achieved this effect well.
Now having a closer look, you seem very keen to display your work - you have displayed it one by one in your header section, and three at a time under the heading 'Latest Work'. I think it's a little pointless, and I understand that they are two different types of graphics (one is your layout and the other your portfolio pieces) but I'd stick with one. The thumbnails under the 'Latest Work' heading are a bit too small for me to judge whether or not I want to click on them, but I have decided not to.
Again, your content doesn't stand out much. It seems to go from 'wow!' to 'oh.' from the header image to the blog/sidebar. I suggest using more variety of colours, and then you can just hold on to that 'wow!'. Comparing your
site in Firefox and IE, the dotted borders in theimg class="border"are less spaced out in Firefox, but that isn't that big of an issue. They are just borders...Oh! Big difference in IE, in the header image, where it says "superush.com" has got a grey background and the text has a light blue gradient background. I hope this can be fixed, but I don't have any advice to give. I looked up the problem, but I have found out no answers for you, sorry. Try experimenting with coding/CSS and see what happens - that's what I used to do when I messed something up in a different browser.
Because of the monochrome problem (your blue is too dark to be identified as a blue) some links are 'hidden' I have to hover over what I think is a link to find out if it is a link. Please lighten up your blue, it would make everything a lot better.
OH MY GOD! You hate chocolate!? Prepare for your doom, you won't wanna sleep tonight...
Ok, moving on... your 'About' page is a bit silly - you say you have information about the site and yourself on the page, yet you tell visitors to click the links to learn more. Than what? There isn't anything on the about page (apart from two links) that I want to learn more of. May I suggest:
Welcome to my About section! Click on of the links below to learn about either, me, or the site...
Now that was a little less confusing.
Your autobiography is nice, witty and interesting to read. I did not want to read it at first, but as I read the first sentence, it got interesting. Oo la la, a Mac user, eh?
Everything else on that page is fine, apart from in the 'Quick Facts' section, where you have written:
# I absolutely HATE chocolate
# Pop (soda) as wellI was confused for a good minute, until I ran back to your 'Author' bit in the sidebar to find out that 'Pop (soda) as well' meant you hated it. Wow. Maybe you should change it to:
# I absolutely HATE chocolate
# I absolutely hate Pop (soda) as wellI'm going to quickly flick through your 'About the site' bit, because I'm feeling lazy... you might want to slip in a
<br /><br />just before the sub-section menu. Also, you might want to put all the information on that one page, and just put anchor links to them, instead of having 50 single pages for each topic. One big piece of advice - split your 'History' page into paragraphs! No one would want to read that massiv chunk of writing, even if you did warn your visitors to get ready to read a lot, you didn't warn them that
their eyes would burst trying to. C'mon, what is there to lose in putting in some paragraphs? The rest of the section is pretty well categorised, and your buttons are nice - it is good that you have a variety of sizes and styles.
I'm actually quite excited to see your portfolio, because of your current layout. Grade ten, I like your designs. I love art, and so now I love your portfolio! The T.V with (I think it says) Will and Grace is cool, I really like it.
Before I continue, I have to say I am really annoyed by the way you have presented the gallleries. I keep click on the 'Grade Ten', 'Grade Nine' bits, but I have to search for the 'Click to enter'. May I suggest making it a little bit outstanding and make it bold, a different colour, etc. Or even:
<h2>Grade Ten</h2> <b>Click to enter »<b>
<BR><BR>
This section is all of the work that I’ve done in my grade ten art class. Includes paintings, sketches and more. Also includes a small description of each piece. September 2008-January 2009.Then it would look even neater and easier to access. By the way I love your photo of the sunglasses on the beach.
For your reviews, I'd suggest being a design/graphics critique. Since you want to be a graphics designer, you should learn to study all aspects of a design, rate them, and of course, still have fun with the reviews. It will be really good practice for later on. Also, you don't seem to be a coding guru, because your coding is very basic. Yo might want to help others with Wordpress, too, since you have intergrated into your site as a CMS, some people find that very hard to do.
Very good, you have not got 50 different pages for different types of links, on your links page.
Your site overall, is good, there are no major improvements needed. I think you'd do well as a graphic designer in the future!

Thanks for your review! I'll definitely get to work on your suggestions.
In IE there's a grey background on the superush.com part because it's a transparent image, and you have an older version of IE. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do to fix that, sorry! But thanks for pointing it out anyways! :)![[img: avatar]](/avatars/Andi.png)
Andi gave it

on 17th Apr 2009 and said:Hey, so I'm Andi and I thought I would review your site because I saw it only had one review and was on the list of newest sites. :)
I'll start with your site name. It's short and easy to remember, but dosen't really seem to mean anything to you, other than the kids at school voted for it. Still, i know how hard it is to pick a site name, so I think you did pretty good.
Although I will mainly be reviewing your site on graphics and how easy it is to use, I thought I would just briefly run it through the W3C Validators. You have 125 errors and 13 warnings when validated for XHTML 1.0 transitional, so although valid coding isen't everything, I would suggest trying to work on a few of these. Sorry I can't be of much help with correcting these, but I am pretty much useless at coding. However your CSS is valid, which you already knew judging by the little CSS icon in your footer.
Also, looking in your site in Firefox and IE, it looked almost exactley the same, except for very minor things (like slightly smaller bullets), so good job with that.
The first thing I noticed when I visited your site was that it had a very simple layout, but I think that subtle themes are best for portfolios anyway, since the real focus is on the work you're displaying. The colors are basic and go nice together, and the text is a good size. Your blog is also well laid out and easy to navigate, and I like how you've set up the comments with the gravatar on the right.
I also noticed how you have an inspiration link in the footer, and looking at the layout you linked I can really see how you used it as inspiration but also made it your own, which is cool. However, it's one of those kinds of layouts that get old after a bit, so just make sure you switch it up once and a while.
The sidebar looks pretty good, i would just suggest changing the "Author" part around a bit, like this maybe:
Hey. I'm Niki. I'm 15 years old, and my birthday is November 22. I have blue eyes, brown hair, and braces (unfortunately). I love computers, Photoshop, and Macs, and couldn't live without my Macbook, my iPod Touch, or my cell phone. I hate Seinfeld, chocolate, pop, and the fact that all the good stores are in the States.
Some of the sentences are just a little choppy and they all start with "I". I also get where you're going with this: " I am pure Canadian, eh?" because of the "eh" part, but it just sounds a little weird as a question, like you're asking people whether you're Canadian or not.
Another thing about the sidebar is that the "Latest Work" is a little useless, since you already have a large glimpse of your latest piece of work in the header right above it. If you still want to keep it, you may want to try centering the thumbnails. The "Latest Review" section is also slightly pointless, because if I wanted to see your latest review I would simply click on the review link. At the very least you should consider moving it further down the sidebar.
Moving on to the "About" section. This looks fine, except for I was a little confused by the "welcome to the about me page" part being right on top of the "About Me" link; maybe you should just but a break or two between them so that the reader knows if the link refers to the information below or above it. (sorry, i don't know if that made any sense :/)
The "About me", and "Site Information" links are pretty good and thourough, but mabey try and not start sentences with "I" so much. Also good to know that Canadians say "eh" a lot, I always thought that was urban ledgend or something. :D
Ok, so now I am looking at the "Portfolio" section, which I'm assuming is the main part of the site, seeing as you posted it under portfolio on this site. The main page is laid out nicely and the categories you sorted your work in are appropriate. Your portfolio section is actually pretty good, but a lot of times when I click on a graphic Light Box dosen't pop up, which is a little annoying, although I'm not sure why it does this. I really like your drawing of the shampoo and hairstyling products, it's different from what you normally see on a portfolio. You should also work on improving your vexeling, because I could see you becoming really good at that.
I've noticed that you have a section of your site for Reviews. While this does not really seem to be relevant to a portfolio site, it's still a nice section, which some visitors to your site might appreciate. Again on this page I would suggest adding a break or two between the description of the page and the first link. Other than the section seems set up nice. When I checked out your reveiws, I noticed they were nice and thourogh, and it's good how you explained your reveiwing process.
Finally, I will look at your last link: "Links". This page seems like it would belong better somewhere else, but I can't really figure out where, so for now I suppose you should just leave it. The links are organized fine, but your bullets are a little annoyingly close to the edge of the left side, so maybe you could just make a slight adjustment to fix that. Your credits are good, I would just consider adding in a few more, like, the graphic design programs you used to make your graphics.
Overall you have a very nice site. :) Although there is nothing extremley eye-catching about the design, your work is interesting, and you have a good amount of talent in drawing and graphic design especially. It will be interesting to see what new layouts and designs you come up with in the future. :)

Thanks for your input! I'll definitely try to work on the things you've mentioned.
The Lightbox doesn't pop up sometimes, because the page has to be fully loaded before you can click on a link, which is unfortunate, but it's how the script works. :(
