I love your layout! It is simple but great! Simple isn't always bad and I love it! It's very unique with the little floral thing brush (sorry lol) you used to make the layout! I like the site name as well. You came up with a unique name as well!
The About Section: I like your about section! I especially like how you have at the bottom the ways to reach you. I haven't seen that before, at least the way you did it. I normally just see the links.
The Site Section: I love how you have a unique way of explaining things: "Just like everyone else, I had to start somewhere." That was a good way to start your history cause it caught my attention when I went to the page! I like how your name came from one of your favorite songs. That's normally how I come up with a name when brainstorming lol XD You also have your credits section which is good as well!
The Visitor Section: I love the recipe section! I think I will try the Strawberry Cheesecake recipe sometime, that sounds delicious! I like your articles as well, especially the WTF Fashions and Ridiculous Roommates articles. I loved reading those articles. They were really interesting!
It was fun to review your site! Thanks for allowing me to by submitting your site one rev.iew.me! =)

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.4 | 1440 x 900 Resolution| Windows Vista
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------First Impression:
I wasn't too overly impressed but this is not to say that it's bad or anything! It's just kind of a typical blog type layout. I liked the fact that it is fairly wide, wide enough to make reading easy. No weborexia here! I also noticed that it was not just a giant wall of text, there are pictures here and there and some of the design elements help that out as well. Short intro, eh? :D
Coding:
I checked your site with the W3C validators and while it passes for both XHTML and CSS, there are 58 warnings in your CSS regarding colors. Some people don't really care about those since they technically do not count, but others (like myself!) do so I always give the heads-up when I notice this. I attempted to check your site for broken links but something in your .htaccess is blocking this, so I can't really help out there. :) Your site is also HTML tidy, in case that interests you.
Really the only thing to change would be removing the 'px' after the zeros in your CSS, since they aren't really necessary.. LOL Hey, if I am to do my job as a reviewer I have to have something to do! Sheesh! ;)
Design:
There isn't too much I would change here, so I think I will just make a little nit-picky list-type thing here, instead of paragraphs and summaries. XP
- I think that the title and site slogan are a little bit too big. Well, I think they look nice big but that the area around it is a little confining to it, so I think that if it were smaller or the rest of the layout were larger that it would look even better.
- I really don't like the red and blue. Well, mostly the red I guess.. I just don't think they go well together. I really think that if you replaced all red with a different shade of blue (while matching the hue of the blue you already have) it would look 100% better as far as colors go!
- I think that the navigation blends in a bit too much, what about making the links bold? Also, once you have clicked on a link the visited color is blue... on that red.. it hurts my eyes a bit. Of course, I am not a big fan of having a link change colors if it has been visited. I feel it is a bit superfluous, but this is just my own personal preference. As much as people like to think, webmasters do not make their website for you specifically! You know what I mean? Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it should be different, I guess is what I am saying. WOW, can I ramble or what?!
- I think the picture of you on the right is a little too big because it looks like it is squishing the text next to it up against the right side! I think it would look even better if you were to make the photo about half that size so the text could continue underneath it. That is something I have always thought looked neat.
- It's pretty nice that you have links to all of those things that you are a member of but I think it just adds a little extra clutter that isn't really needed. I do, however, really like that red strip being there (well, not the color..! Haha) because it ties in the header, making your layout look whole and complete. I just think maybe it would be nice if you moved those links to a separate page and left a blank strip of color there.
- This one I am not entirely sure of but what about adding some sort of list image next to your recent posts? Some sort of little circle or arrow? I don't know, they seem kind of lonely there. :P
- I would really like the headers for the sidebar to have larger text than what they are at right now.. Lesee, right now it is at 8pt... Maybe like 11pt? I also don't like them aligning on the right side simply because I read left to right and it's unusual to see it over there. XP
- I just noticed that the bottom part of the red stuff in the header looks a bit blurry. Do you know what I am talking about? I don't think I explained that very well.. Let's see.. The circles that are at the hem of the red, they are fuzzy. If you can, you should open it up in Photoshop and use Filter > Sharpen and it would sharpen it just enough to make it crisp and clear like the rest of the layout. :)
- When you go to a sub-page, the first header you see has another dotted underline. For example, on the 'Content' page it says (of course) 'Content' in that bold blue but it is aligned right and has a dotted underline. I think it would look better if you left it aligned to the left and removed the dotted underline because directly after you have that 'Content' header is another smaller header that also has a dotted underline. I think it's just too many dotted underlines.
I think that's it for layout nit-pickies, as I like to call it! I like a lot of things about your layout such as:
- It's easy to read
- Not too cluttered
- Nice use of padding
- For some reason I really, realllly like the community icons on the bottom of the page, I dunno why!Content:
The couple of spelling errors I spotted:
- 'Occasions' on the Cashier Kryptonite page
- 'Mozzarella' on the Pasta with peppers mozzarella page, near the bottom of the page one instance is misspelled. Also, on the 'Become an Affiliate' page, the requirements are not properly capitalized. Hey, I am digging here! You have impeccable grammar and spelling! ;D Anyway, onto the actual content stuff.
On your 'Webmiss' page, I don't really like how the extra pages are at the bottom. In a review I gave about an hour ago to someone else, I said the exact same thing. XP My reasoning there was (and yes I am going to copy and paste this because I am a lazy good-for-nothing..!): .. if someone got bored with a certain page they might just assume that is all of the ___ section and move on instead of maybe seeing something else that they would rather read. This, however, is ultimately up to you because it is YOUR site after all!
Another thing about the extra pages in that section, I notice that the links disappear on the 'Random Facts' and 'Things I Like' pages. I would like to see the links (even if they are on the bottom!) on each page so I can be lazy! Either that or have some sort of breadcrumb navigation?
Let's go through the articles together! If I don't have any suggestions for some of them, I will just skip them. Don't think I forgot about them!
Basic Beginner Design Tips: I think it might be appropriate to re-name this to 'Basic Beginner Site Tips' since you touch on much more than just the design aspect in your article. You also talk about the other crucial parts of a site. Also, it would be nice if you could add some helpful links to sites that offer assistance in the areas you mention. For example, a nice link to a color contrast checker for the color scheme section would be nice or a link to an online spell checker for that section.
Ridiculous Roomates: This. made. me. LOL. so. hard. I have never had to be in this situation and thank god for that. I would be such a biatch (trying to tone down the swearing for Jem!) to anyone that touched anything of mine because I have major issues with this. I swear to god if someone touched one freaking potato chip in a bag I purchased I would bite their finger. LITERALLY. Oh, and HARD. I get mad at my FIANCE for eating my cereal all the time.
WTF Fashion: I think it would be really cool if you took requests from viewers to add onto this page. Personally, I think the picture of Drew in the Uggs section could be a double-wammy. That poncho makes me want to VOMIT, as do almost all of them.
All the recipes: I would really, realllllly appreciate photos with your recipes. I don't know why, I just feel it's necessary. :P
I think that a lot of the separated pages in the 'Site' section could be combined simply because there isn't much in a lot of them. It would save a little space and you would have less pages to deal with. The lack of a sort of breadcrumb navigation really bothered me in this section since I would see a few lines of text and have to go back in the browser over and over again. That's what I get for being lazy, eh? :)
Even though you have joined a ton of them (I used to but when I moved domains there was NO way I was going to go update my link in over 300 fanlisting databases..!) that the Fanlistings section should not have its own link in the top navigation area. It's very easily classified as 'Site' content, so why not put it there?
Final Thoughts:
Well all in all, I like your site.. I even subscribed to your RSS feed! I love Rev.iew.me for that reason, I have a place where I can review and give my opinion and find sites that I enjoy. Now I can stalk you, whee! Anyway, I like your writing.. I would be interested in reading some more, though. Basically that's what the visitor can do at your site, so more I say!
I am giving you 3 1/2 stars because I like your skillz (Oh yeah, with a 'z') and your articles are not full of fluff but there could be some more. Also a few little layout tweaks. Whee!

I really love how your "content" page is set up! All of the links are easy to navigate through and they're easy to see; That's ALWAYS a plus! Also, you have a variety of articles and such that not many other sites have, which is a good thing. It sets your site aside from others.
Your site is very personal, but at the same time you offer good reads and interactive things for your visitors!
I can't really find anything that I would change, except for the layout colors, but that's just my personal opinion.
I rate your site 4 stars! Keep it up.

But, it's very unqiue. The CSS could be better since it's very dull and boring. Try to spice up the CSS next time.
Your recipies section is great. I'll try them sometime. Your articles are good too.
In the footer, when you hover over the links, it turns maroon so you can't see anything. Try to change the hover link to white or something. Black and maroon don't go well together so maybe maroon and white again?
It's good to know that your coding is valid since then it'll work in all the browsers. I need to work on that myself.
Keep up the great work. (:

Thanks for your review! I loved this layout when I first put it up about five months ago. I hate the color scheme so much now, so I've been working on something new. I'll definitely take your words into consideration. Thanks again!

Your website creates a fairly nice first impression - it looks well-designed and organised.
The colour scheme is a bit off; I love dark greys, and the burgundy you're using to complement it is nice, but the blue just seems so out of place! I also wish that the burgundy was more prominent throughout the layout - links, headings, something else.
I really like the pattern you're using on the header, and as I mentioned I also love the burgundy. The waviness is really nice, but the subtitle stands out (and not in a good way) because of its colour.
Your navigation is just... bleh. It doesn't stand out at all! If you increased the text and changed the font to Arial or Georgia, it would already look much nicer. Also, change the hover! The black looks weird and doesn't have enough contrast against the burgundy. I also think you could stand to move the links so that they're a bit higher.
Your sidebar is nice and organised, but I think that you should have more than one entry on the home page. There's a lot of empty space since the sidebar extends but the content doesn't, and it looks weird.
I think you footer is really cute, but I don't like how the link hover is the same colour as the background. I also don't like the row of icons at the bottom; they look severely out of place, like you didn't know where to put them. I would recommend moving them to the sidebar.
WEBMISS
This was a good page. You wrote enough about yourself that I, not knowing you at all, got a good sense of who you are, but not so much that I got bored. Your grammar was also flawless, which is a definite bonus!-Random Facts
Haha, I am so with you on the last one. I need album art to survive! I think you could stand to add more facts to this page; right now it's a little bare. Just don't add too many or no one will read them all!-Things I Like
I applaud you for not just writing out a list! I think you could add a bit more (foods and activities, maybe) as well as a possible list of your dislikes?CONTENT
-Articles
"Basic Beginner Design Tips" is a bit of a misnomer, since a lot of these tips don't deal with design! Anyway, I'd say this is an okay article; a little generic, but overall fine."Ridiculous Roommates" is fine - I didn't find it particularly interesting, but I have no beef with it. I'm probably just not in the right demographic.
I really enjoyed "Cashier Kryptonite". Just as your average customer, other customers who are unnecessarily rude annoy me so incredibly much.
I wish you would add a few more to "WTF Fashions", because I agree with all of these!
I've seen articles kind of like "School of Rockstar" before, but I have no problem with it in general.
I completely agree with the article on abortions, which was a well-written and clear opinion piece.
-Recipes
I maintain that recipes are a very nice content idea for any personal site, so thanks for putting these up! I don't think you should list any of the recipes that you haven't posted, though - it looks like you're just trying to pad this section out.-Contests
SOTM? Really? From the looks of this, nobody is really interested. I think the people who read your blogs are a little outside of the target SOTM demographic. I have no issues with your other two contests, though.-Interactive
Meh, Celebrity Twins is something you would typically see at teenybopper websites. It would be better if you had more, but right now it's not very interesting content.Advice Column and Ask Christina don't really have any content on them, and I don't think they will anytime soon. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't feel comfortable asking a total stranger on the internet for advice about something personal.
The Suggestion Box would probably fit a bit better under the site section.

Uh. Fine? :P-Listed At...
Suggestion: Why not merge this with Awards and Reviews? Also, make sure you're using unordered lists for this!REVIEWS
I won't review these, but overall this section seems to be well-organised.FANLISTINGS
I wonder why this couldn't just be its own section? Ahh well, that's irrelevant anyway.Ugh... so many subpages! The average visitor will just click out of this! I know I don't really care that much about which fanlistings you joined, and there's no reason to not just list them all on one page.
Overall, I had no real issues with your site, but it didn't wow me either. The design was pretty nice, though there were a few problems, and your content was lacking in some areas. I think Miss A Beat has a TON of potential, but it doesn't stand out at all right now.

on 10th Nov 2008 and said:Overall, i quite like the design of your site. It's simple but creative enough to be interesting. I'm not too sure about your choice of font, or font sizes, for your header. It seems rather out of place when juxtaposed with the grey pattern. I'm also not too fond of the navigation. It does the job, but seems rather out of place. Perhaps they would be better suited in the sidebar? The colour of your tag line and links doesn't seem to quite fit either. I do, however, like the maroon and grey combination you have going.
Your content area of your design is well thought out. There is just enough white space to separate everything nicely, but not so much that your content seems dwarfed. I quite like the size of your sidebar, to be honest. It's wider than normal and doesn't extend the page ridiculous amounts. Good job.
Webmiss: I found your about-me page very interesting and insightful. You have a way of writing that draws in the reader, which not a lot of people can achieve. I also quite like what you've done with your photos on this page. The rounded corners work well, and they're not so big that they overpower the page. Some contact information couldn't go awry on this page, however.
Content: I quite like the images you have used for each individual subtopic, although they may be slightly big. Your articles are well thought out and interesting reads, and show you've put significant time and thought into them. The recipes you have provided look absolutely scrummy. It might be worthwhile to add the recipes you've listed there but haven't gotten around to adding. The individual recipe pages are well laid out, making for easy reference, which is good. Your contests and interaction pages make for interesting visitor interaction, which not a lot of people can be bothered with, so good on you. Overall, the content is well thought out and relatively unique.
Your review (I would say reviews, but at this stage there is only one ;)) is well thought out and responded to. I think you've successfully reviewed the website well, and have laid the page out marvelously.
Having a quick read through your blog entries, they're quite interesting. I quite enjoyed reading them and learning about your day to day life. I would suggest including some opinions and thoughts about things, but you generally have that covered with your articles.
Overall, a pretty great website. Only a few things to work on. :) Kudos.

on 10th Nov 2008 and said:I love the grey background at the top of your header, it's gorgeous. I don't like your tagline. I'm not a big fan of what it says necessarily, but I don't actually care THAT much. :P Mainly, I think it looks wrong in all-caps.
Your navigation is nothing special. It serves its purpose, and it doesn't look BAD, but it's just kind of "meh." I like the way your entries are laid out, but I think you could use to add a few more per page. Mainly because with your latest entry, it only takes up half the height, leaving a big blank space.
The black line between the two columns is unnecessary, because the sidebar and main content area already have a clear division. Your photo is part of it, the fact that the font is different is another, the headings block it off pretty clearly. The black line doesn't look right.
I really like your footer.
Not that any of this matters, since your latest blog entry says you're working on something new. ;)
Okay, so, first up content-wise is Webmiss, which is written in a very confident tone. You seem very sure of yourself, which is a nice way to be. :) Your Random Facts were interesting--- you would absolutely HATE my iPod.
Content-- this one irks me so badly, and I don't have any idea how many reviews I have written this in, but it is a lot. The title 'Content,' is redundant. Because EVERYTHING in your website is content, from the blog posts to the tiny little icons under your footer. You have REALLY great 'content,' on your site, which is a rarity. You seem like a very creative person, so I have no doubt that you will be able to find a better, more fitting name for this section. :)
For some reason my first instinct on the 'content,' page (after ranting about how much I hate that title for a page, haha) was to click the icons next to each title. Don't ask me why, I don't know why, perhaps I am just weird. However, it obviously means that somewhere in my subconscious, I think that those icons should be clickable!
Your articles are written on a variety of topics, which I love. As much as I enjoy techie articles, it's not my only interest, however it seems to be the only interest of a lot of people! I'm glad you have more interests. ;) I'm always a fan of recipe sections, because cooking is one of my favourite hobbies, and I too have a section devoted to it on my site. I wouldn't list the recipes that you don't actually have linked yet. You're going to make someone hungry and then leave them hanging! The contests are a cool idea, as well as the interactive section. If ever you needed to merge these two, they could certainly go together. Technically, everything in this section is sort of interactive!
Your Site section pretty much harbours the same information as the majority of Site sections I have seen. Which is good. It doesn't particularly stand out, but it's not lacking, either.
I'm obviously not going to review your reviews. They look organized enough, though! Also, I don't see the need to review fanlisting lists.
You have a very cool site. A few tweaks here and there could be useful, but for the most part it is pulled together and effective.

on 9th Nov 2008 and said:Your website gives me a nice first impression in terms of organization. Everything looks neat and I can see your blog immediately, without having to scroll down. The colors are easy on the eyes, yet the stand out and look pretty. Your tag line and your picture on the sidebar look somewhat trashy to me. It makes me rather uncomfortable, but if that reflects your personal style I guess that's the way it should be. Let's move on.
Design
So I'll start from the top. Like I mentioned earlier, I like that your header is of a moderate size and allows me to see your blog as soon as I load your site (without having to scroll down). The colors are lovely, and I specially love the pattern you used behind the website title. I see you refer to your website as "Miss a Beat", and in my opinion, that's a better choice than always referring to it as a hyphenated web address. I think it would look better if you used your website's name instead of your website's address in the header. Don't get me wrong, having your website address there is not misleading or anything, but it would be more aesthetically pleasing to see it without the hyphens and the ".org". Other than that, I like that the title is readable (good size and color choice). The tag line scares me, not only because of what it says, but also because it's all in capital letters. I don't see anything else in your websites completely capitalized. I'm sure you know that typing all in caps looks like YOU ARE SCREAMING. The screaming effect is somewhat less scary when you are not using it in a paragraph, but for some reason I'm still wishing I hadn't seen your tag line.
Your navigation is easy to find and is nicely colored. I don't like that the links to visited sections permanently change color. It takes away uniformity from your pretty navigation. I also don't like that the links turn black when I hover them. The only problem with that is that black is not a very readable color against the purple of the background. "Well, then stop hovering and then you can read the link, DUH!" - Yeah, I guess that would be an option but we're trying to make this as easy as possible for the visitors. I'm thinking your navigation has way too many items, but I'll talk more about that when I review your content.
Now looking at your content area, it looks oddly divided. Your sidebar is too fat and your blog area is too thin. I like sidebars that are spacious, especially when you are going to put a lot of stuff in it, but your sidebar is unnecessarily wide. Your intro information is okay but the picture could do being smaller. Your flickr is cute, it adds life and color to your site, but it can displayed be a 2x2 grid (with four pictures) to save space. And now your blogroll... it's huge and looks somewhat cluttered. A great way to present a cleaner blogroll in your sidebar is to have a short (one columned!) list of random blogroll links, then have a link to the rest of your blogroll at the end of the list. I like the right-aligned headers with a dotted underline in the sidebar, by the way.
You know what I find very, very awkward? That line. That short, fading, black line between your sidebar and your blog. There are other ways you can separate these two areas, but that line... it's hideous. It really bothers me when people fade out stuff visual elements that start at the top of the page. Since your text is justified, there's no real need to place a visible line between these two areas, because the straight line formed by the text at both sides create the illusion of being separated away by a line (given there is enough white space in between the two). But if you want to have more visible separation, you could always give the sidebar a slightly darker background (just a subtle change is enough).
As for your content area, I think I already mentioned that it is too narrow. It's not bordering on weborexia or anything, but it is still not wide enough for the kind of content you are posting here. I like the way you presented the date and the blog entry title. Oh look, the entry category and comment-link are also capitalized! I was wrong before about nothing else being completely capitalized. Hmm. It still doesn't look too pleasing. I find the color (light gray) hard to read against the white background. The color of your links is also a tad too light for the background.
I'm noticing something here *checks CSS*. Oh my god... you used three different fonts for your text? Arial, Tahoma and Verdana? Big no-no. There's this old design rule that says you can't use more than three different font faces in the same design. Considering you have those three, plus the one of the title, plus you are using all caps in some parts (which looks different from non-capitalized text), well, that's way to many font faces. Arial is tall-ish, Tahoma is square-ish and Verdana is round-ish. So even though they are all sans-serif fonts, they all have their individual looks and should not be used interchangeably like you've used them here. Some headings are Arial, while others are Verdana. Your navigation and forms use Tahoma. You need to pick a font a stick to it. That will make your design consistent. For decorative purposes you can use additional fonts, but keep the 3-font-limit in mind.
What is that bunch of links at the bottom doing there?! D: I think it's very nice that you link to all this places but this is seriously not the place to do it. The links at the right say "Pending", but pending what? I assumed that you are waiting for reviews from those websites, but not everyone knows that. Why is it there, anyway? You know what you need? A links page. You have way too many links scattered around your layout. And the worst part: they follow the visitor to every page they go. Have you seen what happens when you hover those links? They turn to the same color as their background! 100% unreadable. The footer information is neat and tidy, but the links turn to an unreadable color too when hovered. And what are those poor abandoned little icons at the bottom of your site? More links! Those don't look good there. It looks like you couldn't find a fitting location for them and had to put them outside of your layout.
Content
I like that your blog is written in proper English and it looks like you update it frequently. Your about page is also well written and very informative. It accomplishes its purpose and tells me about your personality as well as what you do. You have some nice pictures that give your online persona a human face, and that's a nice touch. You are a very pretty girl and I find it funny that you chose to use a picture of you wrinkling your face in your sidebar. It gives a ghetto-ish impression, in my opinion. I like the random facts page. It's cute, funny, interesting and not too long. Like you, I'm also obsessed with downloading album art to my iPod. Stupid gray squares. The things I like page is nicely organized. I'd like to see more categories here (of things you like in other areas).
I don't like that you have a page labeled "content". You see, everything that is contained in your site is content. This section of your site needs a more specific name that gives an idea of what kind of content you have in it. The articles section is interesting and the "Cashier Kryptonite" made me laugh because I know what you are talking about. The recipes section is a nice thought and just reading it makes me drool, but I was kind of disappointed when I saw the title to some recipes that were not linked. How about you list them only when you are ready to link them? That way you don't give the impression of having an "incomplete" website. The contest sound nice, though I don't see any sign of activity on them, like, past winners or current entries (except for one winner in the site of the month contest).
Moving on to the "site" section. Here you talk about your history (which wasn't really what I expected from this section) and the only thing that you really mention about your site is how and when you bought it. You talk about the meaning of the name, that's interesting. Then you link some other sections, and I think this is pretty much a waste of clicks. All that information you have put in separate pages doesn't have to be separated at all. Your credits, awards and reviews can go in the same page where all the info about your site is. The last three links can be summed up in a Links page along with all the scattered links you have around your site. Your reviews section is kinda, uh, empty. It's probably not your fault though.
Now the fanlistings... oh my, more subpages. It seems like you have to click so much to actually find what you want to see. How about you link this fanlistings page from your about page? It's not really a feature of your site, it's more like something about you and what you like. So I think it fits more there than as a main-navigation item. Oh and talking about the main-navigation, your "weblog" link is unnecessary since the header is clickable and leads to your main page / weblog. Having many items in your navigation (or anywhere for that matter!) makes it look cluttered. So if you can cut back the links at the top that would be great.
Well, I guess that's all from me. I hope you find this review useful.

Thanks for your review! I definitely got tired of this look and I was well aware of the fact that I have some organization problems. But you definitely gave me a few good ideas. I'll keep them in mind as I work on my new themes.

I also like the fact that your site is really organized. The "subtitle" of your site is unique for me.
When I looked at your content page, I was amazed. Amazed on the icons that is beside each links. They're awesome.
Now, I'm gonna go with the criticisms. I want to point out the header links because when I hover it, it turns to black which is not a good combination with a maroon. Also, in the footer, when I hovered the links, it turned into maroon which is also not a good combination with black. Another is when I viewed it on IE 6, it looks weird. The header links (with the background) are separated with the header image and the sidebar on the right (facing my screen) is down after the posts. Maybe you should fix that because there are also IE users and not everyone is on Mozilla Firefox.
I think that's it. :)Overall, I rate it 4 stars and I think it is really fair for all! Your site is really good. The colors, the subtitle and the valid codes. :D

Thanks for your review! I never actually checked to see what my site looks like in IE 6...mostly because IE has been severely updated since then. It looks perfectly fine in IE 7 and all of the other browsers I've checked it in.
