I like how on your "Sketchblog" the insets of your artwork are shown instead of the entire work of art; saves page loading time and gives a glimpse of the most important parts of your art.
I love the variety of art you display in your portfolio - pop art, pastel art (these are my favourites!), dark art, etc; very eclectic! =] It's interesting how you create, both, dark and adorable art.
Your layout is neatly organized and you even include extra contact tidbits (Twitter, LinkedIn, Deviant Art, etc.).
Overall, your website is a demented delight (compliment, of course). =] I loved every minute of it, and I may check back in the future to see if you have any new artwork posted on your website.

When I first saw the preview link on here I just had to click your on review page. My first impression of your web site is a good one. It looks very clean and well designed. The colour scheme is stunning and overall it just look unique. Not something I'm used to seeing.Appearance: (25/30)
As mentioned above, your site is visually pleasing. I adore the colour scheme, but I'm saying that with a bit of bias. Those are some of my favorite colours. I think you did a fantastic job organizing the site. All the elements flow together very well.Content: (20/30)
There isn't a whole lot of content really. Just your portfolio, about me page and sketchbook. Although the sketchbook is a lovely idea, I would love to see more content from you. Perhaps more updates on artwork would be nice. And more information about you.Creativity: (10/10)
Very creative. You did a great job!Extra: (+/-) +10, if you updated your site more often I could definitely see myself coming back and visiting often. =]

Layout:
I really like this layout and How the coding works along to make it all come together and look pretty :)
Even though it sounds weird, I could not find a Validation message on your website and Checked it for XHTML Transitional. Your Passed! you should put that up :)
Your portfolio is Un-like most portfolios witch makes it very original! I like it :)
The "Sketch Blog" is A very good Idea itself and Is a nice Idea for your visitors to see how the site is moving along!
I really like when Somebody has a big "About Me" and the picture is funny xD
So, since I can't review your site much further, I will look at your Deviant art :)
Ah, nice stuff here.
Well, thats It! I will give you 4 1/2 Stars. Why not five? well, Its not the most awesome site In the universe ;)

on 20th Apr 2009 and said:Okay, Jacky m'dear, I am reviewing you because what could be better than waking up at 6:30 am and writing a review that doesn't need to be written since your site is perfect from what I've seen? Not much! Let's see if the hyperness becomes more evident the more I wake up and eat more chocolate...
And, in case you think I'm being all sugar and butter and whatnot-- I'm not! It's true! It's perfect! Of everything I've seen done by you (which, okay, isn't a TONNE since I've only known you as a busy student!) this is BY FAR my favourite.
I have difficulties trying to decide if this is a minimalistic design or not. Really! Everything is so crisp, there aren't a tonne of images (which, makes sense since you're trying to showcase your portfolio, not distract from it) BUT it's not the plain jane design of a traditional minimalist theme. It's interesting and multi-faceted. And I am totally oozing complete jealousy, here.
The blues and pinks are back, and those are the two colours I honestly associate with you since that was the first design I saw on Dubious. The watercolours and whatnot really do help show that you enjoy different mediums (which I think I read was the purpose, in your blog?), without being overpowering, and.. well, some people can design something, and it looks like they've painted a piece of paper and scanned it in! And that can be fine, but I think that this works perfectly-- digital watercolours: what could be a better way to depict an artist in today's world?
I've always loved the Girl being chased by the Lurker illustration. She's simple, and elegant and a little bit retro, and definitely brings a pleasant feel to the site. I can see that you're talented already! Imagine if I didn't know what was waiting for me in your portfolio?!
On to the pages...
About: I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR ICONS. The little Canadian flag, especially. This page is just laid out so nicely and your writing style is very personable. If I could afford you (I can't), the way you present yourself on the About page would almost have me sold before I even make it to your portfolio.
Contact: I obviously disagree with the person who reviewed you and said that your contact page was linked too many times. Clearly, they do not understand the purpose of your portfolio, which is to assist in finding you work! I think it's linked perfectly. Once in the header, as part of the navigation makes sense. Once in the little blurb box makes sense, since it has a middle positioning after your mini-bio. In terms of someone making a decision to contact you, they would probably want to assure themselves that who they're contacting is who they would like to contact, and reading that makes me think "Oh, yes, I would like to contact this Jacky Gilbertson, because she has a BDes and has a witty sense of humour." And once at the bottom makes sense, because when viewing your portfolio especially, the pieces can get large, but they're also very eyecatching. Thus, a potential client could click through, look at the piece by scrolling from top to bottom, decide to contact you and the link is right there! So, yes, excellent positioning. I am taking notes for when I need to set up my own portfolio. :P
Aside that, the contact page is simple and focused and not overwhelming, which makes it, er, perfect.
(You are SO not learning anything from this review, are you? I know that I'm not. Tell me, honestly, did you put your site up here so we could all bask in your achievement and feel badly about our own design skills? :P )
Portfolio: This is super. I'm not just commenting on your work, but I love the way that the gallery is set up. It's simple, with no fancy light box, I can easily click around, I like how I can click from piece to piece without returning to the main page. I assume that the Process and Sketches section is new from my last visit? In any case, I didn't notice it, and I even skipped over it during this review, in an excited rush to your portfolio. I would say, draw more attention to it, but since it doesn't seem to be a key part of your portfolio, it's probably not vital.
Sketchblog: Once again, nicely laid out. I'm not a fan of the way the tags and such are blocked, though. Uneven blocks look messy to me and everything else is so nicely spaced! I think your blog is great, what you've written so far has been entertaining and is once again insight to your personality that I think potential clients or employers will enjoy. My biggest hope for this section is that you actually keep up with it! I've been browsing a lot of portfolios recently, and the biggest thing that I notice is that after a few posts, the blog is updated less and less. And, you have issues with your blogging schedule ALREADY! :P But, if I remember correctly, your super awesome job from last year invited you back this summer? So, I suppose that could be good for posts, if you do more cool creative stuff. I AM WORRIED! Don't disappear on us now just because you're all uber illustrator!
Links: THERE ARE NO NIFTY BANNERS FOR ME TO USE. It's okay, because I linked to you in text, but STILLL. Do people in the design world use buttons? I suppose they would. Hmmm. Anyway, standard links page. I visited them all yesterday, because I am nosey. It really didn't help the immense jealousy I already feel toward ACAD students though. :P
Overall, OMG I AM IMPRESSED. That's all I can say. I hope you had a nice ego fluffing reading this! Best of luck with your post-post-secondary life, and hopefully I won't see you around, and you'll escape Calgary like you escaped Dawson Creek!

Jacky's Response:
Thanks for the ego stroke... uhm, I mean review. Haha! Thanks for really looking through all the pages thoroughly, because I DO need someone to do that for me. There are little things that you brought up that I do need to address (banners, pdf, etc.), but overall, thanks so much for your kind comments.
And yes, I do hope to be blogging more for the sake of my art/work. :) here's hoping!

First Impressions
I love portfolio sites, mostly because I run one myself! I like looking at other's work. Right now I can say that I love this layout! It's so cute. The girl on the scooter thing is cool, did you draw it yourself? Probably, since this IS a portfolio site, after all, ha.
Nice! Your HTML is valid! Your CSS isn't, though, but that's alright. Those look like easy enough errors to fix. I submitted your site into Clean CSS and it looks like you can reduce your CSS by 17.4%. This will reduce the loading time on your site.Layout
As I said before, love this layout. I love the logo you used, with the combination of the J and the G. The colour scheme you used works out very well, too. I like the grundgey effect you have as well. Very well done.
You say that you have a BDes, eh? I want to get one of those when I go to university, ha.
No errors on this layout, it's great!Content
About Me Hey, you're Canadian! Sweeet. Same.I graduated from ACAD with a Bachelor’s of Design in May 2009
Uh...May 2009?
Nice about me page, good information. I love bright colours too. But NOT horror movies! Ah!
I like how you have a link to download your resume. The sidebar is a good idea, even if it does repeat some information you have in the blurb beside it. But I guess if clients want a brief overview of your life, then the sidebar would be the trick, right?Contact Me
Oh, hm. This link is at the bottom and the top of your page. There's really no need to have it twice.
Basic contact page, no real need for reviewing. I like the Send button. :)Portfolio Here we go! I'm excited for this.
Woah. Those first few ones scared me a bit. Very dark! Great work, though.
I like how you've set up your gallery. Very clean. The descriptions at the bottom are great, and I like how you've titled each of your work.
This one is awesome, I love JK Rowling. :)
Oh! You only have 12 images! I was expecting (actually, hoping for) more, but then again you only opened recently. Anyways, the ones you already have are fantastic, you are really talented.Sketchblog Nothing really to say here. Nice layout of the blog, though. :)
Links
...there’s several banners and buttons on the left side that you’re free to use!
Where? You should make some soon. :)
You might want to try putting these links into a list, with a small description/website name beside them? Just a suggestion. Conclusion
GREAT site. You can tell that you're a professional. Fantastic work. I found small errors, but those are fine, you can easily fix them.
Good luck finding clients and stuff! I'm sure that you'll do great, I mean, LOOK at your work!Using Firefox on Mac | Report This?
Jacky's Response:
My CSS isn't valid because 1) IE Hacks, ohhh yes. 2) A plugin's css isn't up to snuff. But thanks for telling me, I had only checked my own, so I'll have to go and fix the plugin's mess. :P
The May 2009 thing is because though my classes finish in 2 days, I don't get to have my fancy ceremoney/paper giving until May. I figure, since the site needs to be up now, I may as well put the info in.
Anyway, thanks for nitpicking, haha! I know some people get pissy about it, but I REALLY like when people question every little thing, because then I notice little mistakes I otherwise would not!
