****- (Rated by 4 people, viewed by 108 people)

OMGITSTURHAN[dot]COM is run by a 18 year old guy just trying to blog and get his voice out there in the world. Everything started when he decided to learn how to code using HTML and CSS and this is where he is now. While this is mostly a personal blog, I do include the occasional resource, tutorial, or article.

    I like the layout, but I've seen it before. Have you borrowed the code from someone else? It's perfectly fine to do that, as I am a terrible layout coder myself, but try to be original and change it up a bit. :)

    The CSS is quite boring actually. Be more creative and exciting! Although I do love the font for the navigation. :D A+ for that. The colors are nice. The yellow isn't so bright that it hurts your eyes, which is very good. For the headers on all the pages, I'm in love with. I love the image behind the text, I'm always too lazy to do that. But, instead of having all the info on the "site" page, I suggest making links for the separate information so that you don't have to be all paranoid about keeping the page not too long.

    Your tutorials are very detailed and friendly-like so it doesn't seem like you're talking to a robot. But for the screenies, instead of drawing arrows and circles by hand, I suggest using the shape-creator so that it looks cleaner. Unless you want to have the messy look, which is one of my pet peeves.

    An advice column? Lovely idea! I think it's great that you have something interesting where you can provide your visitors with some help of sorts. :) Your articles seem very helpful. Especially the CSS one. I would read it if I was a beginner with CSS.

    Overall, your site is very well-managed and helpful. Keep up with the great work and just remember to fix the little things that I mentioned. :)

    This is my second review in what, six months, bear with me.

    I'll start with the design. On first impression, I'm not a huge fan. First off, I think there's too much red going on. In a site design, I like to see a solid background color, and a different color used to accent it. For example, blue background and different shades of red used for the headings and links. I see yellow, but I feel like it clashes with the design; they don't flow. I, personally, am not a big fan of Trebuchet MS for a body font either. Secondly, I prefer sans-serif, such as Verdana and Arial. But, this is a preference, not a requirement among sites.

    As far a coding goes, you're all clear with validation. Yet, you can always improve. It confuses me as to why you've used H4 tags for your headings instead of H3. It's not semantically (sp?) correct. Also, under the Bloggers heading, you can use instead of a table. Same with your navigation.

    On to the content.

    When I read your blogs, they seem interesting enough, but I have to comment on one entry: change. I think I would have preferred a one column layout here. That's kind of irrelevant, but oh well.

    The site page is informative; nothing new here. The tutorials page doesn't interest me, yet I'll snoop around anyway. When reading them, I feel like they're a bit generic. Everyone has these HTML/CSS tutorials on their website, and I find myself asking, what makes your different? The only thing I might ever use, are the Photoshop tutorials. Manga coloring? Pretty cool. Diagonal stripes? Nah, I'll stick to Stripe Generator. Yet, I'm not a Photoshop expert and you've explained how to do these things pretty well. But, I wish you had larger pictures.

    The services page features a link to an advice column which you claim is original, but it's not, sorry. Askapricot.com.

    The article's page, I feel, is redundant and can just be added on to the tutorials page. I'm checking out the Web Dictionary and you've got a few things wrong...

    Affiliate: You’ve probably seen this before, and most likely already know what this is. But affiliates are websites or people who exchange links with each other and regularly visit each others web pages. People sometimes just use affiliates as a way to gain hits, which is generally frowned upon.

    Affiliates are used to gain hits. That's kind of the point. A link exchange, pretty much the same thing. If you regularly visit someone's website, your probably just a regular visitor, not an affiliate.

    Contests: I see many many sites who have these now. Contests are just what you think they are. Contests. The types I’ve seen the most lately are: “Refer the most people to this site,” “I’ll choose a random person,” and “Answer the question correctly.” Prizes usually include advertising. And sometimes even a free domain!

    That's pretty unnecessary and seems like a filler. Everyone knows what a contest is.

    Database: Well, you have a blog, right? Well a database is the place where all information is stored. Such as blog posts, comments, pages, settings, users. Things of that nature.

    Pretty simple explanation for such a complex tool. Try here.

    FTP: (File Transfer Protocol) Is an internet protocol that is used to transfer files from your computer to the internet. There are several free programs that you can use, such as FireFTP, for Mozilla, and Filezilla.

    There!

    Hosting: A host is the outlet to which your information can be placed onto the web. Try webs.com for beginners and So-Pink for the more advanced!

    There!

    PHP: A scripting language that was originally designed for producing dynamic web pages and can be included in HTML coding. It has evolved to more advanced purposes.

    Good paraphrasing. Though, I'm more inclined to know what it means rather than it's history. Thus, you forgot to put what it stand for.

    That page was a doozy. Onward!

    The "What is CSS?" page is, again, redundant. This can go on the CSS Syntax page or vice versa, under a different alias. As for the actual tutorial, I'm glad you know what you're talking about, otherwise I might have to mock you with copious amounts of sarcasm. Just kidding.

    Under, "the rules", I think you should delete "If you want to put more than one property, make sure to separate with a semi-colon" and skip right to organizing your CSS. I'd hate for your "pupils" to skip that part because there's nothing more horrible than disorganized CSS.

    Photoshop Toolbox Explained is the best article I've seen on your website. I don't know a thing about that program and you've explained ever tool. I'm not sure how well, because I'm not going to read through this, but I'm hoping you've explained it to the best of your ability and beyond. This. is. amazing.

    After that great tutorial page, with loads of images, the next one disappoints me. There are ZERO images on this page. How am I supposed to follow along?

    We're just about through here, and I admit my review might have lacked as much punch as it did in the beginning, but we're coming to and end. As we near the end, I haven't the slightest idea about YOU. There was no link to an about me page, which is the most important part of a personal website. It's sad that at the end, I have to click underneath your oh-so-darling snapshot to see your personality shine.

    Your about me page is pretty interesting, especially the part about City at Peace. I can relate to some of the things you've said and that's important as a visitor, for people to relate. Yet, the trivia part is lacking. If you're going to include interesting facts, how about dedicating them to a page? Of 50 facts.

    Okay, we really are at the end now, lol.

    In conclusion, I think your website could use a few more adjustments then what you've already accomplished. I hope you take into consideration what I'd said here. Alas, OMGITSTURHAN was interesting enough for me to return to.

    ================= First Impression =================
    I like it. The colors go really well together, and the layout it appealing.

    ================= Layout =================
    As I said earlier, the colors are very nice. They blend together well. I am not so fond of the font you used on the header, not that it isn't a cool font, but I don't feel it belongs with your layout. Other than that, I really like your layout.

    ================= Content =================
    ********** About **********
    This is a great section. It really describes how you started your site and why your here well. The only thing I would suggest is to have separate pages. Such as to have a little background on your site on the main "about" page, then have a link that says "read more" and links to rest of the sections. You could put "history" on the main page then have links to "purpose," and "link back."

    ********** Owner **********
    This is an awesome section too! I haven't found any grammatical errors yet, always a plus. Although, for this section I would not recommend splitting it up, because then there would be too little content on each page.

    ********** Graphics **********
    The icons are fabulous, you have a lot of talent. A way to make this section better would be to, instead of having links to each separate category, put all the icons on one page, and separate the different categories with headings. The mood sets look pretty good, though I can only see three of the actual images. That's something I have never seen on a site before, very original. Definitely add more.

    ********** Tutorials **********
    I love tutorials, and yours don't disappoint me. The diagonal stripes tutorial would be great for making backgrounds. That's my favorite of your tutorials. But again, you need to add more.

    ********** Articles **********
    ... I was hoping you would have enough articles to make up for the lack of graphics and tutorials, but it doesn't. =( Your CSS articles are good, they explain things pretty well. The Photoshop article is also useful for new users of the program.

    ================= Overall =================
    Your site is fantastic. The layout is really cool, you have outstanding graphics, and your articles are really well written. However, you need to add more content. Your site has been open for a while and should have more content than this. That and organizing your about and icon sections a little better are my only suggestions to you.
