    Hi! my name is Raine and I'm about to review your site now if you will.

    I could say that the site doesn't look quite finished yet. There are so plenty of things and elements around. The header could be more attractive if you would use more stylish font and font color. I think you should add more design so it would not look like a sad site. Maybe you should not use a plain background so that the middle part - which has the main content would be pressed in at the viewer's eyes. And i suggest that you don't use black color in font, rather use only the darkest shade of your selected color (i.e. dark brown, dark red orange...)

    I think your site has a lot of potential so don't stop there! Best regards here!

    I'm reviewing your website with Mozilla Firefox and a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 px.

    First Impression
    Your layout looks as though it was created with Microsoft Paint. Right away I noticed the roughness of the curves, which would look much better if they were smooth. If I were not reviewing your website I would not continue further.

    Layout & Design
    The orange-tan color you've used for your background is quite nice, I think. Your layout would look a bit more appealing if you had used the same border thickness for each section. You should try using a darker shade of pink, or a thicker font for the text on your header image just so your website's name would stick out more. It's sort of blending into your header image making it hard to see.

    Regarding your titles' style, you should either have the dashed underline for your h1 or the colored background for you h2; having both makes it look messy. Personally, I suggest keeping the dashed underline for your h1 and removing the colored background for your h2.

    Your font size is good. You should use a darker color for your links because the current color is very light against the white background which could make it hard on your visitors' eyes.

    You should center your footer because it's colliding with your layout's border on the left.

    Try doing something different with your navigation because they look like regular links. Maybe you could make them slightly larger than the regular links or make them a different color.

    Coding
    Your website has 8 errors and 1 warning.

    They are pretty easy to fix. This tutorial (http://heartdrops.org/index.php/tutorials/validating-xhtml/) should help you validate your coding.

    Your CSS is valid, well done!

    About LS
    I think it would make more sense if you renamed this to "Domain" or "Website" since it's all about your domain.

    about her + her fanlisting should be about her and her fan-listing

    This has all of her favorite fanlistings that she has joined, games, contests, & more. should be It contains all of her favorite fan-listings, games, contests, and more.

    Love Season aka LS should be Love Season A. K. A.

    This is Version 1 template. should be This template is version one.

    This sentence View Previous Versions, here. is not required because you have a link above for your past layouts and I'm sure if your visitors wished to see them they would be able to find them out for themselves.

    The Layout should be The layout

    Credits
    This link just leads back to your homepage. You should either create a credits page or remove this link.

    Link Back Buttons
    You should place the code between code tags instead of using a textarea tags because textarea is actually for inputting text not displaying code.

    I don't see the need for you to write

    DO NOT DIRECT LINK!! SAVE TO YOUR OWN SERVER!!!

    since the buttons are not even saved on your own server. They are saved on Photobucket, so if one decides to direct link to one of your buttons it will have no affect on you.

    Try adding some 88x31 and/or 100x35 sized buttons since those are the sizes that are most popular.

    Contact Erin
    Honestly, your contact form looks a mess. Try organizing it so each input field is on it's own line.

    Past Layouts
    This page is fine, but if you centered your thumbnail images it would look much more organized.

    Domain/Fanlisting/Clique Collective
    Firstly, the name is too long. Try thinking of a name that describes all three or consider separating the titles onto their own pages.
    Secondly, this link doesn't work. You should fix it or remove it altogether.

    Joined Fanlistings
    Fanlistings should be [/i]Fan-listings[/i]

    Consider rewording this sentence:

    The dropdown only shows categories with listings listed under them.

    I don't even know what your trying to say.

    This page is cleverly done, by the way. The drop-down menu was a good idea for organizing your fan-listings. By the way dropdown should be drop-down.

    My Favorites
    I know you've stated that the lists aren't in any particular order, but perhaps you should list them alphabetically just so there is some order on this page.

    Consider placing each list one under the other instead of having three columns because they look very squished.

    Conclusion
    Your website is not completely hopeless, after all. All it needs is some work and dedication and it will be improving in no time. I hope my review will be of some help to you in some way. :) Good luck.

    Hi there, this is your (un)friendly neighborhood nitpicker, enjoy your review. Yeah, I know I'm very funny and incredibly stuck up as well, but moving on...

    = First Impression =
    ------------------------------
    If I weren't reviewing you, I'd exit straight away. Your font color (the light orange) is difficult to read on the white background, and your content boxes' corners are very bad quality.

    = Presentation =
    ------------------------------
    I don't much care about trends, if something looks good/works well, then I'll adhere to it. Your site reminds me a bit of my first attempts to make one (which happened some 9 years ago), granted I didn't know how to make the centered layouts, but aside that... For the record: I was one of those who needed quite a bit of time to get stuff right.

    There's nothing really eye catching about your design. That is to say, nothing nice. The first thing I recall upon "alt-tab"-ing out of Firefox are your choppy borders. Did you draw them with MS Paint? Personally, I suck at making anything other than stick figures in it but I've seen some amazing artwork. So either learn better editing techniques, or use different ones.

    Your header image is not bad. I hesitate to say good, because the image is not clear enough. The teddy bear should be more visible. You try to blend it into the background too much. Aside that, the picture you used is a relatively light one, so surrounding it with thick dark borders will obviously NOT put more emphasis on the picture itself. Your site title needs a dark border. I have to consciously look for it, every time I wonder about it. Also I only look for it, because I'm used to seeing the site title on the header image. Not all people think the same way, so these might easily just ignore it.

    The text in your footer should be centered instead of left aligned. Plus the opening parenthesis of your makeshift copyright symbol is overlapping with the border. A larger left padding would be in order. Incidentally, you can type the copyright sign as an HTML symbol, namely: &_copy; (remove the underscore, yes the semi-colon is included in the code).

    From an accessibility point of view, don't have the link color the same as the regular text. Your main navigation's hover color is black just like the regular text. This can easily confuse people into thinking that perhaps this text is not a link.

    So all in all, your layout is rather off putting for me, and I don't require fancy stuff to keep me on a website.

    = Content =
    -------------------
    Home
    You have one entry so far... stating that you installed Fanupdate. How fascinating...
    Your main navigation uses incredibly bright link colors (OK, so I also have bad eyesight coupled with discomfort of looking at very bright colors).
    I have no idea what the point is with the flower watering... is this like the "give hugs" thing-a-majing where some numbers grows? Meh, I'm not 10 anymore so it presents no interest to me.
    Next you have Twitter updates. I was initially going to say "regular stuff" but you seem too lazy for that too. You just have a link to your twitter account. At least display the last 3 (for example) entries. Otherwise, just put up a button to it (see http://jemjabella.co.uk on the sidebar, below the introduction). If I'm not mistaken, twitter has a feed, so you can just pull the last 3 posts by parsing that. There are quite a few tutorials on how to parse RSS feeds with PHP, so choose either.
    And then you have a huge section for affiliates. If they're here, why do they have a section in the main navigation as well. Also the vast amount of "free space" (i.e. "You here?" text) makes you seem rather desperate.

    About LS

    This is Version 1 template. View Previous Versions, here.

    There doesn't seem to be a link on this text, so... what exactly do you mean by "here"?
    The link color in the main text area is blinding me. Change its color.

    Love Season is apart of Skylith Clique which is Erin's clique website for web/graphic design.

    apart should be part of, I'm thinking, seeing as apart means " at a little distance away from one another in space or time, as a separate unit, excluded from consideration".

    Also, you might want to consider using paragraphs and shorter sentences. To make things more easily readable.

    Your link to credits send me back to the home page. Fix it.
    On your contact page, the form is not aligned in any way. Try to display it in a more tidier form. See the following article for inspiration: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/04/17/web-form-design-modern-solutions-and-creative-ideas/
    Not too sure about this, but is the text security question always the answer of 6+5? I tried refreshing the page and it didn't change. If this is so, than you might as well take it out, for all the good it does to you.
    Your previous layouts are not that bad. Sure they could be improved, but they're both much better than your current one.

    Affies
    Why can't this be a subpage for the About section?
    Also what do you mean none? Your sidebar lists five existing ones... so which one is it?
    Aside that, if your affiliates are listed on the sidebar, why do you need an additional page for them?

    Joined Fanlistings
    Fascinating... I shall now stay here and stare at the pretty pictures. I also have such a page you know, it's the highlight of my site: http://lianko.com/fanlistings.php ... or maybe not.
    Your page title looks weird as it goes onto the second line. Use a shorter description.

    Favorites
    Yes another person who thinks that such things warrant their own page. At least they're display in a list-like format... albeit in tables cause floating is probably too much trouble.

    ... and that's all.
    Your About LS page claims that this site is all about you and your fanlistings collective. I found the fanlistings alright, but didn't find anything about you as a person. At most I'd say that this site is akin to a warehouse, which I suppose might be useful to you. But to me as a visitor... what would I do here.
    Let's assume that I don't dislike the layout, and I stay here. You don't have enough blog entries. You have nothing about yourself... just a truckload of links to others' sites be these fanlistings or sites of your affiliates. So I guess I could... navigate away from you?

    I don't require any of the so-called visitor content, but I DO need SOMETHING to read/look at when I'm on a website. And a layout can only keep me riveted for so long.

    =Coding=
    ---------------------
    Use an external stylesheet instead of inline styling. If you do, your loading time will be decreased as the external file is only loaded once, when you visit the site the first time.

    Why are you centering the body tag as a matter of interest? Only to override it a few lines later?

    body {margin: 0 auto;
    background-color: #e1c294;
    font-size: 12px;
    font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif;
    color: #000000;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    }

    The line specifying margin:0 overrides the first one specifying auto margins on the left and right, so the browser will take into account the last one.

    All in all your CSS looks correct, although not necessarily efficiently thought out. Read up on optimizing techniques, and short codes, for better readability and shorter size.

    For your main navigation, consider using an unordered list: http://www.tutorialtastic.co.uk/tutorial/semantic_css_block_navigation
    instead of just anchors and line breaks.

    The center tag is deprecated. Use CSS to center things.

    Score: 2/5

    Aside the fact that you have no content which could interest a visitor, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. Although, a website with no content is useless... so lack of it is a rather serious issue already.
    In case you just wanted feedback on the layout, fix the borders. Choose a lighter color, closer to the shade of orange you use for the links, and make the rounded edges smoother.

    Would I return? No, there's nothing here for me to do.

    Theresa gave it *---- on 22nd Aug 2009 and said:

    The first thing that caught my eye was the background color..it's very dull and kind of gave me an icky feeling.

    I see that you've made the choice to use the rounded border technique. It's a nice one if executed properly, which I am afraid to say you did not. The borders are all jagged and rough, if you were to smooth them out, it would look much cleaner. I am not personally fond of the font that you used in the header, I feel like something softer would have fit in much better.

    Also, you links, they are super light on that white background and I can't see them until I hover on them. You should darken that up to make it easier for others to see.

    The front page is very plain, lacking any real content. So I move on to the "About LS" section which was also lacking content. You haven't given us much info on this "Erin" person and the information you do have is all jammed together and not easily definable. I didn't even go to the sub-pages of "About LS" because I already know what I will find, nothing.

    So, I move to the "Affies" section and REALLY disappointed. If you don't have any affiliates then why set up an affiliate section?

    Moving along to "Joined Fanlistings" and it's a bunch of buttons. No problem really with this but I like CONTENT and a bunch of images is not content. Maybe some descriptions of what the fan listings are and why you are a fan.

    And to the next, your "Favorites". Once again, no real CONTENT. Just lists of your favorites in different categories.

    I hate to say it, but your site is really boring. There's nothing here to read. There's nothing visually appealing about it. I gave you 1 star for lack of content and choppy graphics.

    theerinkal's Response:

    Uhm...Did you even read the site description? It is a PERSONAL website, not a RESOURCE website, I still have yet to put up my resource website on here. Geez.

    & I'll work on it. My next layout for LS wont have what you call a "boring" background. My one quesiton is "Why not have a solid color background? I mean the background isn't as important as the actual content and layout itself. No one pays attention to whether a background is cool or not, at least I don't."

    What did you think the favorites page was? My favorite layouts up for grabs by everyone? Well, you were dissappointed. The favorites page is supposed to be like that, that's why it's called "Favorites". DUH! Sorry, but I don't like people reviewing my websites when they don't even know what they are actually reviewing. Again, this is my PERSONAL website not my RESOURCE website.

    I'm in the process in adding pages of content about me, you just have to give me time, this website hasn't been open long and when it's COMPLETELY done you will be surprised at how good it is.
