A website to stick drawings on. I'd like a commenting system, but never figured that out. If you know of an easy commenting system I could add, that would be a great help!

    Your blog is great for people to go and check out day to day, it's entertaining to see what you have to offer each day. I didn't look at how often you update your blog though but I guess it's still good to go and check out your blog maybe everyday to see if you've posted a new entry. I love all your doodles as well but maybe you should post a little more than just a picture?? a bit of what happened that day maybe?? and I absolutely LOVE your banner at the top, it kind of represented the creativity in this blog too.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond to my web site! Samantha's Paperclip Pile isn't a word blog; it's a picture blog. I'd rather let the image speak to the viewer, only offering a few words to encourage their thoughts.

    - I really like the idea of your blog... The doodles are really cute, and so is the whole concept.
    - I don't see any way for people to comment on your entries. You might want to consider getting cutenews or wordpress.
    - I like that you listed the tools that you used in your about me.
    - I think the layout is really plain and that you might attract more visitors if you incorporate some color into the layout.
    - I really really like the name of your website, "The paper clip pile." Very Creative, as well as the paperclips that were doodled for the header.

    Layout
    I like the way you made your so clean and simple, especially since you're mostly posting drawings -- that way the emphasis is on the drawings and not the layout. The header image is cute and simple. The only thing I think could be improved when it comes to your layout is maybe using a few Serif fonts or something for the headers/post titles etc. I understand simplicity and cleanliness and all that jazz -- I even appreciate it! -- but sometimes you may want to break that mold a little to make your layout more interesting.

    Content:
    Looking at your posts, I notice what you stated in your site's description -- you don't have a commenting system. I use and would reccomend WordPress as a CMS, it makes everything easier. If you want something cleaner/faster, I'd suggest Habari. Both of those are actually content managing systems and not simply for comments, however. Your little doodles/drawings themselves are very cute :) I know if you had a commenting system I would have commented on a few just for the heck of it -- I doodle during class too XD I like your about page; it fits with your clean and simple feel of your site. There's just enough about you, not too much. The only thing I do suggest is maybe putting the picture of yourself aligned left or right into the paragraph, to make the page more streamlined. You know, like img src="blahblah" align="right" or whatever. I don't know if there's a more 'proper' way to do that or not -- if so, I'd love to know so I can fix a few things on my website. I wasn't expecting an external link when I clicked on 'Music', maybe you could put the little external link sign beside it or make a page called "Music" with a few of your videos and then a link that says "more on YouTube" or something similar. You are a very good singer, by the way. :) Your portfolio is also an external link, I'd use the external link sign again. Your drawings themselves are extremely cute :) I'll probably visit again in the near future just to see if you've added some more!

    Samerina's Response:

    Thanks for reviewing!! I'm not sure what you mean about an external link "sign", but I'll be thinking about a solution for that. I definitely took your suggestion to wrap the text around my picture on the about page, thanks! Aligning within the img tag is fine, it can also be done in CSS.

    UPDATED 04 Mar 10:
    Hey! So I took your advice on adding a different font for the headers. Yeah, they were pretty boring before... thanks for pointing that out.

    First Impression: cute little site! It is simplistic, but also attention catching- the little paperclips are sweet and appropriate

    Content
    I like that you have an "about" tab but perhaps there could be a place where you consolidate all of your drawings- just put thumbnails up or something. That way, I wouldn't have to scroll through blog posts to see them.

    You're drawings are also very nice- I love the swirly heart one!

    Also, I love the little statement at the top of the page about the site and it's purpose. It is memorable, quick and to the point, but not boring.

    Samerina's Response:

    Hey thanks! I'd rather not do the thumbnail thing since it's not a portfolio. I appreciate what you said about the intro paragraph--that's exactly what I was going for! :)

    I like the layout. It's so simple and so neat. The font size is just right, so it's easy to read.

    Content:

    I love art, so I was excited to see that your website all about your artwork. Other than that, there's not much of anything there. I'm not sure if the point of this website is to just post your artworks and write brief descriptions on it, but maybe you should blog so visitors can keep busy when they're on your website. You can blog about the artists that you admire, or post reviews of art books if you have some, etc.

    Final:

    I like your website. 4.5 stars! :D

    Samerina's Response:

    Thanks for taking the time to review my site! You're right, that's all my web site is for: posting drawings. I'd rather not taint visitors' interpretations too much by adding lots of words. But I might as well say something here! Seems hardly anyone has the patience to sit and read blogs these days, unless the person is particularly interesting. The site is something like going to an art gallery and making your own assumptions about the pieces. Sometimes it's neat to hear the background of why an artist did what they did... it's also nice to imagine something completely yours and make the art personal. Who knows, because of your review, maybe I'll posts a blog-y something every now and then.

    Today I will be reviewing your website on Windows 7.

    Layout:
    I really like the structure of the page, and how simple but classy to page is. It took about, at tops: 1 half of a second to load!

    Page Structure:
    I do enjoy the fact that your site loads quickly, and is Simple, But this is a bit to skinny...

    for instance, Instead of:

    #container {
    width: 650px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    text-align: left;
    background:#ffffff;

    Make it:

    #container {
    width: 700px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    text-align: left;
    background:#ffffff;

    And instead of,
    #main {
    color: #333;
    width: 400px;
    float: left;
    }

    make it:
    #main {
    color: #333;
    width: 500px;
    float: left;
    }

    And,

    [code]
    #nav{
    float: right;
    width: 200px;
    }

    Instead of width: 180px; .

    I have found these little changes would make it much less skinny.

    I like how your about page gets the the picture. No fillers, and such.

    When I clicked the email link, I was expecting a page, and instead got slow Windows Live mail crashing my computer temporarily. But, your not to blame for that :P

    I like the music. You have a good voice :D

    Using Safari on Windows | Report This?

    Samerina's Response:

    Thanks for checking out my music :) that was sweet of you. You didn't have to show me in the code what you were talking about, could have just named the divs . . . but I understand that some people just copy paste and don't pay attention to it. Also don't think 50px would really make a difference and I had a reason for making it "skinny". I appreciate you taking the time to review my web site!

    Design: In terms of the design, its pretty simple. Light colors, simple header but very clean and it's absolutely essential to have a clean layout. I realized your layout to be a blog, by simple the header alone. Which is a good thing, because that shows that your communicating with your visitors.

    Content:
    The content is very limited. You have blog posts of artwork, but there isn't really any communication with your visitors. In terms of content, I'd prefer if you had a wider variety, even if this is a blog. Maybe if you have writings, or if you have contests. Keep it as a blog, but keep a communication with your visitors. Even if you simply allow people to comment on your blog posts, that would be at least something.

    CSS Suggestions: In agreement with karenboswell I'd prefer if the green colour of your navigation header wasn't as light. The contrast of the white background and bright green is just awful. If you'd like to stay with the colour green, I'd recommend this shade of green: #8cb98c

    Overall this layout is very simple, almost too simple – even for a blog. (I wouldn't even mind if you styled the navigation links) But, take my review today and approve in the future.

    Rating: 2 ½ / 5

    Using Firefox on Windows | Report This?

    Samerina's Response:

    I appreciate your review! Nice sage-y green you suggested. I did want to stay in the same color saturation as the header image though. Maybe I'll go for purple.

    UPDATED 26 Nov 09:
    So I switched to purple, hopefully it's not seen as too bright, I don't think it is. Also, this isn't a "blog" it's a more of an image posting center.

    Mozilla Firefox

    First Impression 3/3
    I love the simplicity of the whole layout. It's so neat and organized, there is nothing for me to comment. Maybe instead of just green links/title headers, try using the colors you have on your banner? The red, orange and yellow.

    Content 3.5/4
    I like the links on your sidebar, it's organized. However, may I suggest dedicating one page to "About Me"? You can write on why started this site and when do you usually doodle or stuffs. It can be a small and simple 'About Me', but at least visitors know who's drawing are they looking at right?

    Others 2.5/3
    Nothing much to improve at all, maybe add more colors and a 'About Me' page.

    I love how simple the whole layout is. :)

    Samerina's Response:

    Thanks for the tips! I'd like to do what you've suggested.

    UPDATED 26 Nov 09:
    I made an about me page, but it makes things complicated if I add more colors on the rest of the page since most of the drawings have color. I did, however change the green to purple since the green was too bright to read.
