on 5th Feb 2010 and said:To start off I want to say that the first thing that pops into my mind is the Mickey mouse ears. So it really matches! I Do think though that you should change it up ever so often. I like the idea of Mickey Mouse but Disney is made up of so many different characters from princesses to animals and you need to include those. If it was about the old Disney then maybe you could keep it black and white but it is about all of Disney, correct? Then that means you must include all characters at some point. I don't mean all in one but a few different layouts in a year would be nice.
Next I want to focus on content. It is a directory so it has a lot of the content a directory would have. No mistakes that I can see. I do suggest though that you don't add resources if you are calling your self a directory site.
Under categories like fanlistiing it says there is one link but really there is none. I would fix that so there is no confusion. Then when I continued to look at each categories it has no links for any of the ones I went into. I didn't go into all so I don't know if It is all but I went into a lot saying there was links and there are none.
One the front page I would get rid of the number of hits. Hit counters are very dumb. It is fine for just you to see but not out to the public.
I think you need more of a disclaimer. Just saying you aren't associated with disney isn't enough. So add some more information on your site page.
Codes, some people like to just have a text link so add in what lines try can put instead becuase I used to run a fansite and when I joined a directory I added the link in text at the bottom so I would have that as a option as well.
Hmm I think that is it for content that I can think of.
I have to go back to the layout for one thing and that is this. I am viewing the site from both my computer and my iPod touch. I check most browser types such as goggle chrome, Internet explorer, and safari and the layout looks good in all which is awesome.
Over all the site is what I would expect for a diretory. It is simple which makes it easy for people looking for a Disney site to find what they need. The layout is sweet and simple and it is aswell easy to find everything and to join. When I am in the need of looking for a Disney website I will come to yours. And again as a reminder when I went to see the sites I was in safari and they didn't show up so maybe it is just safari but you should fix that. Hope his was helpful!

I'm sorry to quote someone else's opinion, but it's what lead me to review your site right now instead of moving down the list. For me when I think of mouse ears - I think of black and white. Mickey mouse is from the black and white era before color TVs were ever even thought of. It makes perfect sense to me to choose a black and white theme to represent the company whose main character is from the classic black and white era. :)
First Impressions: As I have already stated, I love the classic look of this layout. The black and grays works well together. I'm glad that you didn't choose to do the content area in a bright white color. The gray shade you have chosen works well.
Text: I think your text size works reasonably well for the layout, but it really could do with some more padding. The text in your menu could use some more padding from the content area. It currently gives the look of it being very much on top of each other. Some more padding from the bottom would give it a more professional look. Your H1 tags could use some padding from the top and your text could use a little more padding as well. I would specify a line-height. I would also really consider adding more padding to your footer. Everything looks kind of squished together down there.
Links: The red that you've chosen goes well with the colors of the layout and also plays into the classic theme. I think you've done an excellent job on color coordination. The bold really helps the links stand out.
Index: Your first paragraph is short, sweet, and to the point. It's just the type of paragraph that a site like this needs. It sets all the requirements for adding a site to the directory in one sentence.
Rules:
You left out the ending ")" on rule number 1.
You don't need the comma in rule 4. "No hate sites or sites with offensive/pornographic content." One sentence - no comma. :)Codes: I don't think you need a comma in this sentence either. "Just place it somewhere I can find it and your link will be approved." Your mouse ears are cute.
Links: I think the links of the main categories could do with some padding between them. (Wow, Aisling only thinks she's the padding fiend. ^^;)
Site: Typical site section. Everything is neatly organized.
Overall: Your layout is classic which suits the Disney I grew up with and Walt Disney the man as I remember reading about him. The only thing I would suggest would be to add some more padding to give everything a more spaced, professional look.

on 15th Nov 2008 and said:First Impressions: Your site is unique and different, and definately stands out. The design is perfect - I really like the mouse ears despite the dull colours. I'd love to see this layout exactly as it is simply instead with a bright, primary, block colour like red or blue. It would make your site stand out alot more and certainly reflect the Disney way! I note that in your response you say you are lacking in design - I am aswell, and I mean I am HOPELESS at it but still I think it would be worth the risk to try something new with it.
The site is neat and organised. You present the site to the visitor and set everything out very well. I won't go through each page because I believe they are perfect as they are!
I do like the idea of adding more content to the site... Since this is a directory for all Disney sites this could easily become a centeral point on the web for Disney fans. In that sense and way of thinking, extra content like polls (think; What's your favourite Disney character/film) or the life-of-Walt Disney articles and info could be possible. If you'd rather avoid a teenbopper-stylee thing than perhaps general resources such as creating a good Disney fansite (you must have seen so many now right? :P), or as you say links to scripts or the animator's works etc. It really is your choice considering it's your site here - but it might be worth checking what type of extras would be appropiate, successful and appeal to your daily visitor.
Final Comments: I hope this (rather small) review has been of some help! I think if you're passionate about the site enough then it is definately worth adding extras. I certainly would come back for some extras! Disney appeals worldwide so you've already got the potential to have a LOT of visitors (I mean a LOT). I'd love to see your site become bigger and better :) Good luck with it :P

And, also, your 'extras' page says you have PS CS2? I think with that program (even I don't have that, lucky duck, you) you could certainly do much better if you applied yourself.
The rules page is nice, I'm rather fond of rule #1, only submitting your own site. Submitting other peoples's sites can be a problem sometimes, as they might not want their site listed.
The link backs ('codes') are excellent and simple. I like that you made several different sizes, taking into account that some people most likely won't use a 120x80 or something link back.
The 'add your link' page is very well organized, I like how every site falls into a specific category (I hate when everything is all jumbled together).
Once again, the 'listed' page is organized splendifirously, different sites to different categories.
The 'extras' page is organized to perfection (you're awesome with that), and makes everything easy to find.
Overall, your directory is great, with the exception of the layout (be more creative!).

Catherine's Response:
Having a good program is nothing when you have no talent at all with design. I am not a visual person at all, and the mouse ears are, well, something that I am insanely proud of because my artistic talents are severely lacking.

on 13th Nov 2008 and said:You have a nice, clean layout, and I like the use of the Disney ears. However, I don't feel that your layout is completely appropriate for a Disney site listing. Whenever I think of Disney, I think of really great, adventurous and colourful imagery, and although your layout is great, it's not particularly adventurous or colourful. I know the site's only a directory, so you don't need to be particularly adventurous with your layout, but the lack of colour does make it seem pretty bland and boring in my opinion. As with the padding, it doesn't bother me too much, although a little more in the footer couldn't hurt. :)
Taking a quick glance at your coding, it's clearly something you're fairly proficient at. However, it's a little inconsistent in it's formatting - it starts off well, with the opening divs and navigation nicely indented, but this seems to disappear when we get into the main content. Of course, this doesn't really affect the site in anyway and is probably me just being a little nit-picky, for which I apologise. :P
The content seems very much the standard when it comes to site directories, so I can't really delve into it too much. You have a nice, small set of comprehensible rules and some cute code images. Like Aisling already mentioned, your "Extras" page is more like a "site" page, but it is nicely organised, providing only the necessary information.
I also really like your contact form. Nice to see it use the entirety of the space provided on the page, and not just bunched up to the left.
All in all, a very nice and well done site that could possibly benefit from a more Disney-fied layout. :)

on 13th Nov 2008 and said:Haha, this design is SO cute. The mouse ears are very funny, and obviously very fitting for this site! The only thing I could suggest would be maybe a little bit more padding. It has a bit, but not quite enough, in my opinion. Then again, I could just be a padding fiend. I would also like to see the navigation with a little more space, it seems cramped there.
Your rules page is appropriate. The codes are cute, but I never understand why they are called codes. :P I think you should make some other ones with more colours! Or, with black still, but a pink bow, for Minnie Mouse, or something!
Your contact form is very neat and easy to use. :)
This is probably the only review where I will say that links to empty pages are okay. Obviously, links are still needed, as I recall you just recently re-did The Disney Directory!
The Extras page is sort of like your "Site," page, I suppose. It's very organized.
I would be very excited to see extra content, although I'm not sure exactly what you could offer.
I'm sorry that this review is so short and essentially pointless! Your Disney Directory is really lovely. Keep it up!!

on 13th Nov 2008 and said:Design: Ah, interesting use of the mouse ears. :) You have a very neat and clean layout with just the right amount of contrast. The only thing I can suggest changing is adding a little bit of padding to the content area and make the padding equal all around. You could also use a favicon. ^^
Coding: No problems! :) Just one really insignificant warning through the CSS validator.
Content: It looks as though you have all the standard content required of a directory site. It's all clear and easy to understand and I see no spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes. I also like that you're including official sites as well fan-sites.
I'm really not sure what kinds of extra content you could have. I mean won't all the sites listed in your directory have all the visitor content? ^^; Of course that doesn't mean you can't provide something they don't. Maybe under resources you can offer links to webmaster resources (tutorials, PHP scripts, fonts etc.)
(I know you're not using copyrighted images but...) I don't know what Disney's standpoint is on using their copyrighted images as resources. Yes, we all know using copyrighted stuff is wrong. But it is ok in some circumstances. Maybe Disney don't mind fan-sites. I'm sure they're good for business. (Oh and of course there would be people using fan-art instead of official art.) Sorry to ramble about that. ^^; I'm sure you know about copyright, but there are sometimes a few people with concerns.
Aside from all that, your directory will be helpful for the Disney fan community. It's nice to have a place where you can find all Disney sites together.

Catherine's Response:
Thanks. That's sort of what I was thinking for resources - links to scripts etc. It's probably just a minor thing that'll come under "extras".
