on 9th Feb 2009 and said:Yay Twilight, I love that book. I just hope the film is equally as good.
However the image you are using is illegal. I'm sure people have already pointed this out to you.
You could create a very original header image without the need for this stolen image. After all your site is meant to be a resource site, wouldn't it be better to show your visitors your skills. Maybe take your own picture to put at the top.
I don't like how the "header" image is at the left hand side. It just seems out of place and it squashes your side bar right over to the left. It just makes it seem cluttered in my opinion.
Your blog is well written but the misuse of exclamation marks is making my eyes water. It makes you seem super excited about everything in a very babyish kind of way.
Also is this really necessary:
bahahahahahaha pleeassseeee.
That just makes you look 10 years old.
You also have no way for your visitors to comment other than in your tag board. Seen as your host lets you use PHP you could easily install FanUpdate.
Well I'm going to have a look around the rest of your site now.
It took me a little while to get to your "about" page. It was listed in the site stats. O_o
It's more like a list of facts and it barely says anything about you other than the real basics. This would be better in a paragraph, so your visitors can get a feel for your personality. Right now, you just seem like you can't be bothered with this section so you just shoved some random facts in.
I clicked on your MySpace section and was greeted by a string of links. What happened to the use of lists?! Lists are not that hard to make.
I see no unique content here that I couldn't find on any other site. There are plenty of sites that are purposely made just for MySpace content. Also you don't explain to new users where to paste these codes under the "tweaks" section. Its just not user friendly.
In your resource section you have PSDs, which need to be taken down immediately. Using these celebrity images is illegal.
The cascading style sheets you have written are horrible and out of date. I can't see anyone using them so you might as well take them down.
What is with the animations? Its like you designed your graphics for Piczo pages.
Teaching people how to disable right clicks in your Tutorial section is pointless. If people really wanted to copy something on your site they'd just open your source code. ;)
Marquees? Just remove this. -_-
Site section. All content here seems relevant and fine, but remember what I said about lists.
Overall I'm not impressed with your site. I feel a lot of work needs doing to it to tidy it up and remove some out of date content.
Hope my review helped and keep at it!
UPDATED 09 Feb 09:
Your site has improved a lot since I last saw it. The change is brilliant and I hope you carry on the way you are. I feel I need to change my rating now, so I will. :)Good luck with your site, it looks much better.

on 16th Nov 2008 and said:First Impression: Literally, the first three words that came to my mind were dark, busy, and crowded. Dark can be lived with if you can pull it off correctly - busy and crowded - not so much. I'll break it down for you.
Header Image: It's interesting that you put your header image over to the side, but that leaves a whole bunch of unused space to the left. This could possibly work if the right side of the page didn't look so cluttered and busy. Picture it with me - Left-side with not much going on, right-side with too much going on. It's gives a very unbalanced look to the entire site.
The title is very thing and jagged on the image. The white color stands out and can be seen well, but the red is really hard to read against the black. The font you used doesn't help with that either. If I hadn't been reviewing your site and looking closely at the overall layout, I probably would have missed your title.
On top of that, the header image is copy-right to the production company that filmed Twilight. It's great that you're a fan and are wanting to promote the movie, but images and parts of film have royalties and conditions that have to be met before they can be used. It's the same as downloaded music off the internet. Everyone knows it's illegal, but some people still do it - doesn't make it right and it rips the artist off.
Text: Your text is very small. 8pt is too small. It should be 10pt or 11pt at least for it to be seen clearly and legibly. Also the stark white against the black is too much of a contrast with each other. I would recommend softening the color into a very light gray.
Navigation: To be honest your navigation as it is should be easily found and seen, however, it really gets lost in the side-bar with the tag board being right under it. That's the bad thing about using purely black and white layouts, you have little contrast color wise to separate the sections you want to separate. I noticed your tag board and all the red text before my eyes found your navigation.
Since your site is a combination of a blog, graphics, and resource site, you basically want your visitors to notice things in the following order:
1. Site Title / Header
2. Blog Entries
3. Navigation
4. Whatever else is on the page.Do you see how that makes sense? Right now, most visitors will probably notice things in this order:
1. Right-side of page.
2. Blog
3. Busy side-bar with too much going on to pick something without thinking about it
4. Image on left-side of page
5. Header - if they can find it. :)Do you see how it can become a problem?
Any time you have tutorials or graphic content on a website, you want visitors to be tempted to navigate to those sections. You can't tempt visitors with what they have trouble locating.
I just now noticed the dark red navigation header you have above your navigation. It's too small for the size of the navigation text and was too dark to be seen clearly. Your navigation (if the side-bar wasn't so cluttered) would be easily found. I don't think you need it. :)
The hover in the links of your navigation goes to black. I would considered changing it. You always want your links to remain visible - even on hover. If you are going to stick with the black on hover then you will need to specify a background-color so that the black text of the links can be seen.
I really don't think the tag board is necessary. It gives your side-bar that cluttered look. If you are going to keep the tag board where it is then you'll need to add some padding between the tag board and the bottom of your navigation to help more clearly separate the two from each other.
I've already discussed the header above your navigation, but all the other headers in the side-bar fall into the same category. Too dark, too small, and a really hard-to-read jagged font. You want your headers to be attention getting. I think that's what you were trying to go for - attention getting and different. It just falls short with the color, font-size, and actual font. Your headers would look much better if the color was lighter, brighter and the font was bigger and more legible.
Your affiliates links could use a few pixels more padding in between them for a cleaner more professional look.
Myspace: I'm not going to review your graphics. I'm not a graphic artist. I'm a writer. But I will say that this section would be easier to navigate if your links were in a list instead of back-to-back.
Same thing with your Resource section.
I really don't think you need the back and forward links. EVERY browser currently made has a back and forward link already built into it. You're just duplicating what people already have offered. Most people automatically will go to use the one in their browser anyway out of habit. If you're wanting to give users the option of going back to the previous page on your site, consider using breadcrumbs.
For instance your brushes in your resources section would be:
CandieRocks.com » Resources » BrushesThat gives visitors the option of choosing where they want to go back to without repeating what their browser already offers.
Site: I like how you named your site after your dog. Do you have a picture of her? That would be a great thing to include here since your domain name was inspired by your dog. (Besides, your mentioning her made me curious to see what she looks like.)
Credits: You have made me so happy! I'm glad to finally see someone who doesn't just link deviantart but also credits the EXACT artist. You'll need to go back and list the fonts that you used and where they came from too. People spend a lot of time creating fonts just like they do brushes.
Overall: I think you're off to a great start. I feel that your side-bar is a little too cluttered and the over-all layout has an un-even, right-tilt, kind of feel to it. Since this is a blog too, I would love to see some more information on you. A section about who you are, what you like, and why I should want to get to know you better. :)
I hope you find this review helpful.

on 16th Nov 2008 and said:Unfortuantely I'd one of those people that makes a first impression very quickly and finds it hard to change from that first impression. The name of the site "Candie Rocks" did not give me a good first impression. Neither did the layout or the red/white/black colour scheme. However that's all I'm going to say about those and I'll just move on to looking at the content.
I went to the Myspace page first, despite my hatred of all things myspace. The links are all next to each other, separated only by spaces, this would look a lot better if they were each on a new line and maybe next to a bullet point or something.
Not knowing anything about myspace really I can't comment much on the content, other than saying you have a lot of it. Though perhaps you should work more on quality over quantity. The glitters page also looks a complete mess as again the links aren't organised or on separate lines or anything. And I'm not going to mention the separate lines thing again either as it seems to be pretty much everywhere on your site.
The quality of your content seems to vary, but on average was better than I expected. I especially liked your emoticons, very cute. The icon textures are ago, but I think the first eight would look better without that white scratchy thing on them. The full size textures seem to be either really bad quality, or light textures. But rather than being textures the light ones look to me like stock images? Just random photos you've taken, so they would possibly fit better in your stock section.
The bullet points were pretty cute. Judging by those and your smilies I'd say you have a talent for pixelling, so maybe you should think about adding more pixel based content to your site.
The icon gradients seem a little bit pointless, I'm sure the majority of people could make their own without any effort.
The wallpapers are fairly nice, though why they all say " My Desktop" on them I do not know. Also one major problem here, you don't even say what size they are? I'd also sugegst offering them in a variety of different sizes but if you don't do that at they very least you should tell people what size they are downloading.
I liked the stocks page and would like to see more of them, almost everyone finds uses of paper stocks so it's nice to see a variety.
Onto the graphics page. I have to say that the aniamtions are pretty hideous and can't imagine anyone ever wanting to use them. As for the blends, some are pretty good, while others not so much. The credit text stands out quite a lot and while I guess that was the idea, it doesn't look too good. Also while there are lots of blends they aren't something I see being used very often, so you possibly want to focus on updating other stuff.
For some reason you have the glitters linked both in the myspace section and the graphics section, bu they link to exactly the same page. I see very few people using glitters not on myspace, so the link probably doesn't need to be there in the graphics section.
Looking at the email pixels I think I'll take back what I said about adding more pixels earlier. Am I supposed to be able to read what it says underneath the tacky looking envelopes? Because it killed my eyes but I could only jsut read what it said.
I like most of your scribbles, but the scribble names don't actually seem to be scribbles to me? The same goes for most of the scribble quotes as well.
Onto the button templates, which again seem slightly pointless content. The majority of people make their own buttons to match their layouts. Because if you can make a site but not a button, you probably shouldn't own a site. And even if you are going to use a premade button, I wouldn't suggest using one of yours. How about some cute pixel buttons instead of these weird brush things you've got going on.
I actually like the font styles, but think you could possibly add more variety to the page and organise it a bit better.
I've personalyl no idea what you were thinking when you made the css codes. The link hover preview looks absolutely awful.
I'm not sure if you were just being lazy but for some reason your colour palettes only have two colours each. Most have 4 or 5. The majority of people can find two colours that match together and usually when people are looking for a colour palette they are looking for a variety of colours that go well together, not just a pair. Instead of having so many with just two colours this section would be a lot better with fewer palettes but more colours in each palette. The flashy preview image seems a bit pointless as well, people are only interested in teh colours, not how you lay them out, as long as they look neat it doesn't really need anything else. Especially not a background full of brushes.
The enter sign maker just makes me cringe, I really don't want to think about it. Either improve the quality dramatically or get rid of it. Ditto for the icon maker. Especially the letters, who wants to use letters that big on an icon? You need a smaller font.
Although I didn't really look through many of them your advanced picture tutorials were surprisingly good, and some of the icon tutorials weren't too bad either. But most of the other tutorials were for graphics I can't really imagine people wanting to make in the first place.
The site section is pretty well organised and contains all the information you would need, so good job there. Just check your spelling of affiliates in a few different places.
Although there was good content here and there I have to say overall most of the site is very low quality and looks rushed, like you've jsut tried to add as much content as possible, try taking a bit more time and care with your content and I think the site could be a lot better very quickly.

DARK. And not in a good way either. Copyrighted images=bad. The blend is okay, but because they're not your images, it really shouldn't have been used. Did I say dark? I like dark layouts, but there needs to be balance. I even tried hovering over the navigation, and the hover is so dark. I had to lean towards my screen to see what I'm clicking. On top of that, it is a left-aligned layout. I don't have a lot of space to the right of my 1280x800 resolution, but it's still noticeable. I'm sure those with larger resolutions can fit 5 screenshots of your layout in yours. Okay, five is an exaggeration, but it depends. I'm just saying.
Blog and Sidebar
The font is too small. If someone with poor eyesight were to visit your site, they'd leave instead of trying to read the thing. I opened up Firebug (where I can see CSS and the like) and I saw that you use...7pt! Oh, for the love of all things purple! I also noticed that your links are bigger than the rest of your text. Make the main text the same size as your links, which is only up to 8pt, but it makes a world of difference. Try to aim for at least 8pt (or 11px, ideally 12px) text in your layouts.
The sidebar is ridiculously small. You have a lot of space there. Widen that sidebar! And I noticed the headers for the sections there, but barely. It literally gets lost with everything else. It's not really cluttered, although I would shrink down that Affiliates list on the sidebar to about 10 and then make another page for the rest.
The other pages
Myspace: Line breaks. You need them. They're running into each other like this:
Myspace Layouts Comment Boxes Contact Tables Profile Tweak Codes Contact Buttons Picture Captions Headers Album Covers Links Music Skins
They should look like this using the <br /> tag:
Myspace Layouts
Comment Boxes
Contact Tables
Profile Tweak Codes
Contact Buttons
Picture Captions
Headers Album Covers
Links Music SkinsIt's better to use lists, but one step at a time. And no need for the back/forward image links (which don't change on hover).
At least your profiles aren't ridden with celebrity images. But they're nothing special.
Resources: Once again, breaks are needed!
Do not use celebrity images for examples for scripts. There are plenty of sites you can use for stock photography if you can't take your own. This is my favorite site for stock images.
Your brushes aren't anything special, but some of them are cute.
Masks--eh.
PSD's: A walking lawsuit in page form. Drop it all.
Some of the patterns are cute, but it isn't anything to jump up and down for.
Really adorable smilies! How about expanding it more by creating larger ones?
The stocks aren't bad, but you need variety.
The first 8 textures are nice. I have a strange liking for light textures. Then they're not so good in the middle, then you have more light textures at the end. Light textures seem to be your strong point--exploit and create!
The desktop wallpapers are pretty, despite the "my desktop" written on it. I think they'd do fine without it. The last four on the second page feature celebrities. You don't need them.
Gradients: meh. Those can be done easily by anyone.
Your icon textures aren't as good as the full size ones. I think I like the first 8, but not by much.
The second bullet set is the only set that I like. Everything else is generic.
Tutorials: When I saw your "scripts" section, the one thing that came into my mind was "is there a tutorial to show how to use them?" No there isn't. You have a whole mess of tutorials, which don't have any breaks between the links by the way.
You explain them well, but you can use other photos than the celebrity types. Also, they're still nothing special. Do something out of the ordinary. I'm sure there's a trick of the trade or two that you can offer that not a lot of people do!
Drop the HTML tutorials. All of what you're teaching shouldn't be used in a site. I will give you credit for writing a decent CSS tutorial for beginners, but you should also introduce a part for external stylesheets. It's easier that way anyway.
Site: A very lengthy site section talking about the site. It's not the most interesting section.
But wait a minute...something's missing. This site didn't run itself; who's the girl behind it? This is supposed to be a personal blog/site, but there's nothing about you other than your blog!
Coding
I've already said that your font size is way too small. Your CSS file is a mess. Duplicate body attributes galore! You define it twice in the external file and again in the actual index.php between the <body> tags. Styles are put in between <head> tags. Oh, wait...no DOCTYPE! You need to add one of those! Your sidebar's width is 107px?! Oh dear. You need a lot of help in this department.
Oh, and position:absolute;=bad. They show differently in different browsers and resolutions, so you might be seeing something, but someone else is seeing it another way. Margins and padding does the trick. Familiarize yourself with w3schools.com and learn more about that.
All in all...
I found this site very hard to review. It was too dark, and the fonts too small. The copyrighted image made it worse, because you're not supposed to use it in the first place. You definitely need a lot of help in the coding department. Your links were smushed together, making it very hard to see which one you're clicking. Use lists and style them via CSS.
Remember, your site didn't run itself--I was a bit shocked that you called this a personal blog when there's nothing about you! You have a site here that could be good if you take these reviews and tear your site apart to use the suggestions. Good luck!

on 15th Nov 2008 and said:My first thought when seeing your page is that it is very messy and discombobulated(I love being able to use that word). I think you could make a big improvement also, if in the different sections of your site, you listed the links in vertical rows, or bulleted instead of just all run together.
The cbox looks a little messy and randomly placed. Also, the headers for each section on the right are barely readable.
The myspace layouts look pretty nice, but you do not have a place explaining on how to install them. Not everyone knows how to do that unfortunately.
Some of your font styles do not show up.
Your animations are well done, except I do suggest that you use a transparent background on all of them.
The glitters section is really really messy and again, everything is linked all in a row and that's the main issue.
All of the other graphics and such on your myspace page are great. Props to you for all the work you did!
It seems to me you could combine your resource section with your graphic section.
Your blog has no way to comment, I believe that's why you have the cbox there. If I were you though, I would install a commenting system.
The links at the bottom of the page are messy and I really wouldn't have known they were even the links to other people's pages if I didn't happen to scroll over them.
You have a lot of talent it seems, and your site has a lot of potential! Keep up the great work.

on 15th Nov 2008 and said:CELEBRITY IMAGES ALERT! These images have copyright on them, and I seriously doubt that you are the holder of such copyright. Definitely not cool, and very unoriginal.
Aside that, hmm... Twilight. I started reading that last night, I'm about 200 pages in. It's alright so far, I suppose. Anyway. If you wanted a Twilight layout, you probably should have stuck with just using the dark colours and maybe some sort of stock image that depicts the general feeling of Twilight. Resorting to celebrity images is never a good idea, and I'm kind of developing a fear of your Graphics section, since I'm sure I'll find more there.
Your blog entries need more line height. They are awfully cramped at the moment. A touch more padding wouldn't hurt either.
Okay, so, I click on Myspace, and instantly think "WTF?" Your links are not in a list. They're all running into each other. I don't even know what I'm looking for. This is too much of a scavenger hunt, and I am about ready to quit 2 seconds in. I suppose it's not too big of a deal, since this section is filled with pretty typical graphics that most people could probably make themselves.
Oh, those numbers at the bottom are links? Maybe you should label them as such. Because they're kind of random, and at first I thought you had 33 pages of Myspace crap.
Onto Resources, my fear of your Graphics page is increasing. Your brushes are nothing special. If I were taking the time to open Photoshop anyway, I could probably also take the time to make my own scribbles.
Also, those javascript back buttons, etc are pretty useless. I'm using a browser, as are most people viewing your site I'd assume, since it doesn't seem very mobile-friendly, and I have my own buttons built into it! Wow!
Your first few textures aren't bad, but the last ones are. And I still don't see anything that wouldn't take someone a few seconds to do in Photoshop themselves, and probably better.
AH! GRAPHICS! Your Blends... are blends. I don't know what else to say except... CELEBRITY IMAGES ALERT!
Oh, animations is sehkrit code for really annoying gifs! What on Earth would anyone use these for?!
I'm really not finding anything entirely useful in this section at all...
Okay, and Tutorials. Let's see what you have for HTML and Coding. I'm intrigued, since your own coding is sub-par. What do Iframes and image maps have to do with each other? Other than them seemingly being the basis for very poor design?
Linking an image or displaying an image? Really? Anyone who has a website should know how to do this already.
Your FAQs page is okay. "I love Candie Rocks!" is not a question though, and therefore doesn't belong there. An actual written page about the history of your site, and more information about you would be nice.
Generally, I am unimpressed, if you hadn't guessed. You definitely need to make a lot of changes.

The site looks really plain and simple, I'm not sure if it's just that I'm in Firefox but the red clashes with your background and there's just too much red around. I had to look closer to be able to read 'navigation' and 'add your comment' on the side.LAYOUT
I've always really liked your site, but I don't really like this layout. It's a little too simple, just a few images and some text and brushes : I've seen some of your past layouts and some of them have been really good. You definitely have some talent, but should spend more time working on the layout as that is what people first see.CODING
I've seen your site in IE where it looks much better, but in FireFox the links on your pages are all right next to each other. I know how annoying it is when things look different in other browsers. One thing that helps in using a CSS Validator which you can find by searching on Google :P I don't really like the CSS. There are two colours: White and Red. Not even different shades of red :s Or different fonts.CONTENT
I think you should put 'graphics' into the resources category, but split up - if you get what I mean lol xP As in you'd click Resources and there would be a 'RESOURCES' part with your resources, and a 'GRAPHICS' part with your graphics, all on the same page.Looking through the content, I've realized that some of the brushes are great! But also that some are really boring =S A lot of them are made just using computer fonts, which anyone can do without needing brushes to do it. On your font styles page - some of the font styles you can't read. Some of them look exactly the same, apart form the colors which people would probably be able to figure out how to change lol. I think it's great how you have makers. They're actually really great! The scribbles are also really great :)
Overall, I think you have a really nice site :] I go on it quite a lot to see if you've updated. My suggestion is for you to spend more time on your graphics and coding, because I've seen some of your previous work and have been blown away. Apart from that, keep up the great work ;)

Dark layout, I love it. Well...your layout is well-made. But the header in your blog is a bit boring, maybe you can customize it using some CSS code like change the first letter, or change the font. I love the colour scheme, no blinding colours, but I'm a bit annoyed with your blog. You use caps lock too much. Anyway, instead of using Cbox it'll be much better if you use FanUpdate or CuteNews. Oh oh great! The first thing I see is this Bella&Edward image! Cool! Okay, now coming down and concentrating on the review. So I will start with your layout.
I really like the way your organized your layout and the sidebar. And I also love the colors, and no the red doesn't hurt my eyes =) I think it matches to the layout and it's colors. I see you are a Twilight fan! Cool! I am one too! Can't wait for the movie =) Oh, again away from reviewing, sorry. Going further with the review and will have a look at your pages now.
So the first page is Myspace, let's have a look what I can find there. And here is the first thing I don't like and what doesn't look good. Your links are all in one row. Did you maybe forget the tag? Or did you want your link in one row? Now going into the pages and see what I find there! Your Myspace layouts are looking good, if I had a Myspace site I would probably use one of them! And the same thing on your Glitters page, the links show up all in one row. Maybe do the same thing here like said above with links on your Myspace page. Wow! Your icons are looking really good! I like them!
Okay, going away from your Myspace to the next page, which is Resources and here we have the some problem like mentioned before, but this is on the other pages also, so maybe you wanted it like that. Your scripts are looking really good! Espacially the ones on the top of the first page! Great job! The same with your brushes, they are really good! Overall all the resources you are providing are looking good! Great job on that and don't stop adding more and more of them! And now further to your graphics page.
You have some really great blends on your graphics page! Espacially the Gwen Stefanie and Joe Jonas ones! The icons are really amazing too! But what I recognized was, that on some of the pages isn't anything. Don't know what went wrong there. You should definatly have a look at that!
The rest of your graphics doesn't look that good. I expected alot more ofter I had a look throug your decorations.
Okay, so going on to your Tutorials page.
Your icon effect tutorials are looking amazing! I totally love the 11th one! It looks so amazing after. Wow! Your other tutorials are looking great to, and I really like the fact that you provide a lot of tutorials and also different ones. It's not like all your icon effects look alike but just with another picture used! And the same with your advanced pictures! You really have skills and you try to help your visitors to improve theirs, which is awesome! Great job on the tutorials!
Oh, cool a Site page, can't wait to read it! Hopefully I will find some infos about your web-design history!
Hm.. I am a little bit disappointed that you haven't written anything about your history in web-design but besides that, this page is looking good! I also like the fact that you have the credits up! It's always good to give credit, where it's needed! And what I just recognized right now is, that you haven't linked your affies on your sidebar but in the footer. I think that is totally not fair. I mean normally everyone puts their affies in the sidebar and if they have a lot of affies, they post the ones they keep intouch with the most or anything on the sidebar and than there is a link to the page where all the other affies are. I wouldn't even have cared about your footer if I wasn't irritaded by the numbers. I think you maybe should should think about that! And what I also just recognized is, that if I hover a link it turns black. Maybe try another color for hover links.
Okay, seems like I am done with your review and so I will give you a little overall conclusion:--> Maybe change the links on your sites (the ones which show up in a row)
--> Have a look at the pages, where nothing appears
--> Maybe add your web-design history to your Site page
--> Add a page about you! (I didn't recognize it was missing, until now)I think that's pretty much everything. I hope this was a helpful review!
